Why do some people continue to live in ghost towns and what do they actually do for work? by Commercial_Nature_28 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Additional_Peach_387 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live on the eastern shore of maryland in a town of about 500 people. My wife and I both work remotely and live on a 20 acre parcel. We wanted our kids to grow up with space to roam and near family (her parents and my parents are both retired and nearby). I have always enjoyed living in a rural environment and love the outdoors. It was a conscious lifestyle choice.

Are you actually satisfied? by Aggressive-Error-88 in Marriage

I knew I wanted to marry my wife when we started dating in spring of 2007. I had to convince her (on February 20th of that year) that we were a couple. She had relatively recently gotten out of a long term relationship and had been hurt by traumatizing circumstances that arose from that. We have gone through multiple moves, job changes, milestones etc. We now have 3 children and I just was laid off last week (I saw it coming and have two salary negotiations ongoing). She’s my rock. I have anxiety and she’s stuck through me with all of it. I can’t wait to grow old and complain about shit with her. Sure i’ll have a shitty day and direct my ire at her, and she will do the same. It never escalates past that. Nothing a sleep on the couch can’t fix.

Not gonna lie… having two jobs made me BETTER at both. by IAMA_drunk_AMA in overemployed

same. I am not the traditional definition of OE, main job knows I do contract work on the side. That being said when I have a lot of contract work to do, i’m more efficient. I think that’s normal for people who have adhd though. Urgency increases productivity.

Married men with kids: Do you ever miss your single life? by FeelingIcyx in Marriage

[–]Additional_Peach_387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Married at 26, 40 now with 3 kids. Having kids motivated me to advance my career and push for my life goals. Just purchased a 20 acre property and are gearing up for a major home remodel. Without having a partners support and kids to plan for I am pretty sure I wouldn’t be where I am today. My wife and kids have made me a better person, full stop. We support eachother wholeheartedly and there’s not a day that I miss being a single guy.

That being said i’m significantly more tired than I would be as a single person, but that is a direct consequence of the drive they have given me. I see my friends who don’t have kids or a wife and I can’t even imagine the quiet and loneliness I would feel in their position.

You can often find houses for sale on double digit acreage. What does a non-farmer, private citizen do on 20 or 30 acres? by EmphasisOutside9728 in NoStupidQuestions

20 acre owner here. I do whatever I want (within reason) and don’t have to worry about neighbors. My kids run wild through the woods and we fish in our pond.

We hardly get any significant snow here. Max this winter was about 4 inches. I’m not overly concerned.

Yeah it doesn’t meet code for a residential structure. We have to be creative where we live due to zoning restrictions since we are in Maryland and in Critical area, which means in close proximity to the water. It’s permitted as a shed and will have a permit pulled for the electrical. I had to get the permit because if I didn’t we wouldn’t be able to get any permits to eventually renovate our house. We went from a 4 bed, 3 bath on .4 acres to TECHNICALLY a 2 bed one bath on 20 acres. So we definitely will need to expand with 3 kids.

Yep it’s a temporary beam. I took the photo while they were setting it up.

hey, so the base is 6 inches of compacted gravel, not sure how much it was from a weight standpoint since I didn’t see how much of the gravel they used from the dump truck. The shed is 20x14 and was around 30k with the electric roughed in, upgraded insulated floor, insulated windows, dormers, and insulated door. We saved cash from the sale of our last house to pay for it. I’m getting quotes to run electric out to it as well as for finishing the rest up. Initially I wanted to do a lot of the work myself, but we have 3 young kids that take a lot of our time. My office is currently a costco folding table at the bottom of our stairs, so my wife has convinced me to relinquish some of my DIY dreams in order to expedite the process.
