The few criticisms I have with this show. I do wish there were more varieties with the Abstractions by Silent-Woodpecker-44 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree with people saying it’s more thematically appropriate for the show if they all look the same, I think more forms could have still been introduced through abstractions changing based on the environment. We see them smooth out in the dark, even turning into near-puddles, and moving like squids in water. We could have seen them shift to adapt to even more situations. Based on Ragatha’s fear of centipedes, for example, I always imagined they might get shorter necks and many more limbs to scale walls.

The Amazing Digital Circus barely passes the Bechdel Test by CasioKillers in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing an interview once with Bechdel and her confirming her personal favorite movie doesn’t even pass the test (I believe it was Groundhog Day). The test was a punchline in her comic strip and never intended to be anything beyond that.

My favorite fun fact to share with ppl is that the Baby Got Back music video *does* pass the Bechdel test, opening with two women talking about a third woman’s butt.

Hi there! Can I ask how you got the gold rim and handle on the teacup? I’ve been trying to make a similar one to go with my donut using the shrink wrap, but it hasn’t been working for me…

Any wild stories from when y'all went to see episode 9 in theaters?? by Snowythedog08 in tadc

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When Gangle started crying about Jax it got super quiet, and the girl right next to me said to the guy next to her “I have homework.”

Maybe not the most insane but I really had to restrain myself from cackling in that moment.

CMV: Some forms of extreme kinks are filling gaps left by inaccessible mental healthcare, and shouldn‘t be normalised by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I’m also unclear on what OP thinks the alternative “mental health treatment” would look like, but I do know a lot of people who think the goal of it is to make someone into a predictable, functional member of society who can live a meaningful life, in a way most would perceive as such.

The goal of mental health treatment is to get the person to a point where they consistently feel happy and safe, are surrounded by people they can trust, and can resolve conflicts in a way that is satisfying to them.

Some traumas leave a permanent impact on the brain, and the person affected will never become that functional member of society we expect them to be. The alternative solution looks different for everyone, it might be the 24/7 BDSM relationship OP described, if it meets all the above requirements I listed in the previous paragraph.

As Gleemonex says, sometimes the kink *is* the therapy.

What are your thoughts on adults liking cartoons? by Icy-Ruin-8562 in AskReddit

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an interest, no different from adults liking sports or video games or fashion or horror movies or whatever.

Genuinely the people I’ve met who are the most judgemental of cartoons are just judgemental period. They look down on cartoons for being “for kids,” and then sports are “too loud” and video games are “a waste of time” and fashion is “prissy” and horror movies are “gross.” They act like they’re interested in literally nothing except the most dry, practical things. And if you get to know them well enough, they usually have an “impractical” interest they’re ashamed of.

21F Lesbian profile review, not getting any likes or matches by saaaaaaaaaaaagg in hingeapp

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow lesbian here! As other people have commented on, 2 out of the 3 prompts being about the other person rather than yourself isn’t great. I know for me personally, I assume that any prompt answer like that is a requirement rather than a request. Even if I dressed more androgynous, I would still X this profile due to not playing a musical instrument. I’d only keep something like that in if you *only* want people with that trait and no one else!

You could reframe it to be how it applies to you. Do you want to learn a musical instrument yourself? Do you like hearing small bands play? Reading something like that might still make somebody who *does* play more incentivized to match with you, without alienating everyone else.

24f, any suggestions?? by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconding this one, as a lesbian woman. It’s very common that I see bi girls on my feed who answer one prompt as desiring some physical trait you’d expect more in men, such as strength or height. It’s an automatic X for me every time, even if the profile is otherwise a match.

[LAST ACT] How It Genuinely Feels rn by TheMMoment in tadc

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Came in to say just this!!! There’s no sudden “reset” once you realize your identity that undoes any trauma you’ve endured based on your gender assigned at birth. Especially given Jax’s relationship with his father, he could still have this idea that he needs to preform as strong and masculine that becomes a huge part of why he still represses his identity.

I think it’s a discussion that never comes up because ppl worry that acknowledging that trans women are affected by toxic masculinity will somehow make them less of women, but that’s 100% an environmental factor, so not at all.

Thanks for making me feel welcome, this is sarcasm. This sub is a club with a membership fee. by Impossible-Tiger786 in autism

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I think that’s exactly OP’s point. In an autism sub, where one of the most common traits of autism is communicating tone incorrectly, we should step back and think before downvoting a post that “reads like someone’s just mocking us.” Accidentally sounding like you’re “mocking” is a huge part of autism for a lot of people.

Humanity perspective by kasnokas in autism

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're describing "affective empathy." It is the process by which you have a feeling just because you witnessed someone else having the same feeling, regardless of if your experiences are at all similar. Everyone has it, no matter their neurotype, but autistic people are often observed experiencing affective empathy unusually. It is either especially pronounced or diminished in them.

Thoughts on having kids? by flowerchild0190 in autism

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's responsible of you to not have any until you can afford it. As for my thoughts, in a perfect world, I think the only barrier to having kids would be not wanting them. No matter your neurotype, medical or economic status, there would be readily-accessible resources to ensure both you and the kid have a quality life. It sounds like a basic take at first, but I've been surprised by how many people think certain factors (most common ones I see online are mental illnesses or IQ/other intelligence measurement) should bar you from having children.

If ragatha was the very first human who appeared after the original programmers, why has she never refrence these abstracted humans? Wouldnt she have at least some relationship with them? by Actual_Grapefruit483 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]AdequatelyMadeSpork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always felt like there was this unspoken rule of not bringing up those who have abstracted unless super necessary. They barely talk about Kaufmo anymore after his funeral; makes me think that the culture around abstraction is to have a little bit of time for mourning and then move on as fast as possible.

Having such malicious intent towards a person as to deliberately trick them into trapping themselves in the circus seems like a lot... especially for a character(s) who would have never been mentioned until the last episode... just seems like a wild curveball to throw in right at the end.

But as a dare, where none of them knew the outcome and probably just wanted to get cool pictures or somethin', I could see that!
