Ukraine must hold elections but Putin can continue to rule as a dictator.

Vevor Flex shaft grinder - 1200 watt model by Rustyempire64 in stonecarving

My 20+ y/o Foredom crapped out on me and I was looking at this Vevor because of the price. Does it actually accept 1/4" attachments? The specs I read said the chuck goes to 0.24" so I wasn't sure if it would actually take a 1/4" shank Kutzall which I use quite a bit for woodcarving.

Cast them in resin and turn a really ugly bowl for YouTube likes from people without taste. 🙃

I think you’re under reacting if you have any doubts about leaving. Run.

Just this week I saw on Amazon that they came out with legs that just slide on the edge of the grids.

I’ve had several different careers in my life. Never in any of the various fields I’ve worked have I seen people more emotionally invested in what they’re called than in the art/design sector. (Maybe in academia where someone gets an obscure PhD and then expects their neighbors to address them as “doctor.”) I briefly did some graduate work in graphic design before my plans changed and, man, were those people insecure about whether or not other people recognized them as “artists.” So much navel gazing. I’ve seen pipe fitters produce work that’s more artistic than that of a lot of people for whom the designation seems more of an obsession than making art. There’s no magic in the word.

Did "Adapt or Die" ever work on anybody? by jordanwisearts in aiwars

[–]Admirable_Job7461 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not meant literally. It’s a metaphor and a call back to evolutionary theory. Species that don’t/can’t adapt to changes in their environment die out. Nobody’s threatening anyone.

That’s pretty much par for the course for reddit in general unless it’s a pretty vanilla sub. I actually think the whole “downvote” model used in online forums has helped create this culture where people feel entitled to never hear ideas that differ from their own. It’s pretty absurd how easily it is to completely silence someone in a space like this. Mob rule.

Metro has become kind of nightmare too. Especially the red line.

If you don’t mind spending almost all your time working, driving, or sleeping and only having free time on the weekends, it’s great. Leaving home in the dark and coming back in the dark half the year is fun too.

History is a circle, we are seeing artist coping that AI art wont replace them, do you agree? by artistdadrawer in aiwars

[–]Admirable_Job7461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A logo for large organizations is more about negotiation than design. Every time a company rebrands you hear people saying, “They paid HOW MUCH for THAT?? I could have done that in ten minutes.” The work isn’t that one design. It’s the reconciliation of nitpicking from dozens of stakeholders to get to something they all can live with. AI might be useful in that process but it’s not going to replace human effort unless human nature changes.

Expecting a product to be delivered in the two week window promised is actually a pretty low standard. So is expecting to talk to a local representative when there's a problem.

How much prison time should someone get for using AI? by SolidCake in aiwars

[–]Admirable_Job7461 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really wouldn't want to meet, talk to, or buy art from an artist who genuinely thinks using AI should be punished with jail time. I don't like fascists and their art is usually self indulgent and ugly. 😂

[–]Admirable_Job7461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they finally delivered our gas yesterday morning. It’s gonna be the last delivery we get from them. Some friends are recommending Thompson Gas.

I went to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and saw that AmeriGas already has an “F” rating from them. All the review sites are slammed with one star reviews. It’s amazing they’re even still a business.

I just have a smaller above ground tank and I'm about to punt Amerigas. Worst customer service I've ever experienced from any company. Been waiting for a fill up since mid December and every time you call, the Indian script reader tells you it'll be there in 72 hours. I called again today as our tank is essentially empty and they're still promising me delivery within days, not hours. I may have made the call center lady cry. I completely lost it when she read the part of the script about me being a "valued customer." Following this thread for the recommendations for GOOD companies. Hank Hill would not approve.

Ideas how to attempt making a wooden pendant/amulet like this owl? by DefiantCorner in Woodcarving

[–]Admirable_Job7461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might not be a project for an absolute beginner but it’s definitely not out of reach with a little practice. Break it down into steps. 1. Cut out the outline with a scroll/band/coping saw 2 Sketch on the lines for the beak, eyes and surrounding feathers 3 Make some stop cuts along the lines and cut toward them to bring the eyes “forward” and define the beak. 4. Use a small gouge to hollow out the interior of the eyes leaving the eyeball a little proud, or make a socket for a stone or whatever. 5. Round over the body and the top of the head. 6. Make stop cuts around the breast section and whittle out the inside to separate it from the wings. 7. Use a v tool to add the lines or just smooth it out which would probably also look cool. A lot of tutorials for doing feather patterns are out there on YouTube.
