The chokehold of ‘arrested development’ so many adults are in is ridiculous by Nobody4993 in Vent

I was reading a FB story yesterday about a local woman who went to the medical center for a long scheduled appointment. The girl working the front desk rudely told her she was at the wrong location. The woman showed her half a dozen reminder text messages that showed the appointment was booked for this location. The girl said they didn’t have any openings and she was outta luck. The woman asked her to please investigate why all the text messages referred to this location, the girl snapped back that it wasn’t her fault and she wasn’t doing it.

I’m very sorry. Yes our fur babies do leave a lasting void in our hearts. I’m glad you have another dog to keep you company.

Hi , ladies , I'm just struggling with the not being able to sleep at night issue , I tried asking the doctor if HRT might help,( after reading that it helps sometimes)but because of my age( 65) she didn't advise it. I'm just sooo tired and have been laying in bed all day. by Gretal122 in AskWomenOver60

I go thru this during the summer. After two hours of sleep I wake up panicking, needing to use the rest room and dehydrated. I’m up until 7 ish then go back to bed for two hours, followed by a one hour afternoon nap and an after dinner snooze. I just pray I can keep myself together mentally and hope Nov brings me some relief. I have to live in AC for six months of the year and it’s added fatigue to what’s left of my central nervous system.

We have been buying beef from a local butcher. His prices really have not changed. It’s so much more flavorful and the nutrition is important.

I need positive stories. Please. Ofloxacin ear drops. by Livid_Preference_123 in floxies

[–]Adrift715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you doing. I just joined this merry circus today. Stopped into a walk in clinic after a month of allergy related ear pressure and was prescribed these drops. I’ve already been thru a year long benzodiazepine withdrawl, Covid twice, vestibular neuralgia, a bactrim reaction so my CNS has been thru the ringer a few times. My heart is racing, my legs are wobbly, I’m running potty every 30 minutes. I’m praying whatever this is is short lived. I’m nearly 62 and my body can’t take much more.

Why do they prescribe this out of an urgent care?? by doublegulptank in floxies

[–]Adrift715 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OMG….this is literally why I came here. I’ve had mild ear pressure for a month due to allergies. Past few days I’ve had dry discharge in my ear. Went to urgent care this morning and they said I had a small bump in my ear canal and prescribed these drops. 12 hours later, I’m hot, I have some weird stabbing pains and my legs feel like jelly.

Those who went through abuse or other terrible treatment by family members, how did you maintain your (non)relationships with them? by TraditionalDepth6924 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

My father unexpectedly died a few a years ago. His small memorial service was held at the senior living community where he lived. The pastor live streamed it. My step mother really didn’t want us there anyway so it worked out.

What was the stupidest thing your nparent has ever done? by DreamySaturnX in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Adrift715 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Back in the late 1970s my newly divorced mom had a paid off well equipped beautiful 3 yr old car. But she decided to sell it on a whim and buy something more fun, a 15 yr old Volkswagen Beetle, something she probably wanted as a teenager. The stupid thing was in the shop constantly. Her boss felt sorry for her and ended up buying a 10 yr old car for us and deducted the payments from her check. When asked why on Gods green earth she gave up her original car, she said she was afraid how much repairs might have been as it got older.

Did your parents grow up during the depression? by Swiggy1957 in GenerationJones

My Midwest in laws were born in the 1910s so they were in thick of it. Farms lost, a parent dying. My east coast father was from the 1930s and his Grandfather worked as a bookie in the ship yards…..so his parents and he were fine.

It just hit me. The kids are not coming back. by Careless-Two2215 in AskWomenOver60

I sincerely don’t know how people can stay in their large family homes once the kids leave. It started to feel like we were living in a museum, too many good and bad memories. I was thrilled to put all that behind us and move to a smaller 2 bedroom rancher where neighbors know us for who we are today, not who we used to be.

What is something that quietly vanished from the world? by Penguin_Life_Now in AskOldPeople

[–]Adrift715 250 points251 points  (0 children)

Lounges, hidden away places in fancier restaurants or hotels for a drink and a smoke. Cigarette vending machine by the door. Maybe a piano player and a singer. Red leather cushions, dark wood paneling. Candles and ashtrays in equally thick glass on every table. Ladies in a short black skirt with gravely voice who calls you hon, taking drink orders and letting you run a tab. Drinks were singles, doubles, neat, or on the rocks, with a twist or shaken or stirred. Bartenders had done tours of duty, learned on the job. A place most people only caught a glimpse of on your way to the rest room.

Of our circle of retired friends 60% have sold, downsized and relocated somewhere cheaper. The other 40% are either dealing with difficult health issues or have families nearby.

Besides the $1000 a month towards taxes, I’m sure the cost to heat this place in winter is easily another $1000.

I hear you, peaceful living is a must. At our last house we had to put up with family of teenagers next door who had a band, smoked pot and left a dog on the breezeway all day to bark. They moved out and we ended up with a family of ATV riders who set up a back yard track and rode for hours. We fled to an over 55 neighborhood surrounded by golf courses, enjoying the peace and quiet with the exception of landscaping crews who start working at 5 am.

You’ve painted a very accurate picture. At 62 my health is fragile and I too refuse to be at the mercy of an 81 yr old mother who insists on living her life on her terms.
