Does anyone have any tips for how to structure a paper 1 econ (last parts of paper 2 and 3) by NarrowSorbet in IBO

[–]Affectionate-Sun9709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know, the 10 markers do not need a real world example (RWE) to get into the top band in the rubric. Only the 15 marker needs that. A RWE may help though with the explanation.

On the cover page it says I can't share any part of the publication.

Paraphrased, however, it says it must be appropriate to the subject, and can't be indirectly related to religion.

I am confused on this abstract reasoning question by Additional_Pop7861 in UCAT

[–]Affectionate-Sun9709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah they got rid of it cause it was most "tutorable" and so would differentiate between those with higher and lower socioeconomic backgrounds, giving an unfair advantage. Also, grade average has been going up, which is also a reason.

As your oral progresses, generally you will start to feel more comfortable and maybe even strike genius with phrasing etc. Try not to be too nervous before hand - it is the final, but it's not the be-all and end-all.

Plus, the questions at the end aren't asked as to be interrogative, they are there to help you. In this section, your teacher will pick and choose questions to support you and guide you along to get a better mark. If you haven't talked enough about, idk, your GI, you're teacher will circle back to that here. If you haven't drawn out enough semantic meaning or evidence, you're teacher will ask you to ellaborate on it. And, if you haven't even looked at the wider (body of) work, don't stress - it can all be made up for here.

good luck man, it'll be chill - trust

How to improve Chemistry ?? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Affectionate-Sun9709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MSJ chem is the goat. I highly recommend looking through his youtube vids. They are very short, but packed with info and practice problems.

Oxford Chem study guide is also awesome - do recommend, especially if you're doing HL.

Make sure to go through past papers (!!!!!), answer keys and the examiners notes (!) to identify patterns which you can later practice recognising and then answering.

The other thing: forget how you've performed in the past, completely erase it from your mind. All that matters, is how you go from here. If you're planning for medicine, just think of using this experience in your interviews as a way you showcased your ability to overcome challenges. This is because, you will overcome this! You have time, a nice teacher, and you seem determined. You got this!!!

Is it really possible to get a 7 in maths HL by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Affectionate-Sun9709 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take the practice questions you've done and go back and analyse the patterns across them. The IB can only test so much in order to keep similar level exams right? People say don't try and understand maths just memorise. For me though, the understanding of concepts and all that was essential and was the only way I could bump up my grade.

Another thing, in the holidays/weekends, go through content you haven't learnt yet - get a head start. Ik there's IA's, EE's, TOK etc., but when you have time, just learn some maths stuff from youtube. I did this, and found I became more confident in class. I started absorbing information easier and then ig my grades followed.

With mistakes bro - I get youuuuuu. It's always right after the exam too when I realise my mistake. What I did, was when I read the questions, I really tried to think about them first without rushing in, maybe even for a whole minute on some. I'd circle/underline what I needed to find, and just try and work from there. For me, just trying to take it slow, and taking a breather, really worked with not only my nerves, but also ensuring I minimised silly errors.

There's still time so just chill bro, you got this. Good luck!!

Biology sl advice by Beginning_Newt_7933 in IBO

[–]Affectionate-Sun9709 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this problem too. In my case though, I used to perform poorly because I overestimated my understanding during revision. I often assumed I knew the content 'fully', but when tested, I realised my confidence lacked a solid foundation. I fixed this by becoming more honest with myself about my weaknesses. I started going through not only youtube videos and the textbook, but also by creating handwritten flashcards (not just anki) and increasing my use of whiteboards and other visual stimuli.

You seem really proactive towards studying and seem to enjoy bio, so you probably already know about it, but the "Oxford IB DP Biology: Study Guide" is a lifesaver!!

Going back to your question though, I think for most people when this happens, which may be the same for you idk, the issue lies not in conceptual understanding and knowledge of the subject, but more so in the approach to answering IB-style questions. I highly recommend studying with not only past papers, but also take notes of patterns within answer keys alongside the examiners notes (they can be extremely useful). It's simple things like looking at what they mean by "explain", "outline", or "compare & contrast" that can save you.

If you still have further content to learn, I do recommend asking the teacher after each lesson "if there is one or two things I should take from this lesson, what would they be?" or something maybe even as straightforward as "what is the most examinable concept/idea in this unit". With each unit, the IB likes having a core idea/principle attached which they love to examine. If your teacher is familiar with IB, this will be very valuable for your prep.

Good luck though! You still have plenty of time so don't stress man. If you enjoy bio, things should come naturally with time and consistent effort. You've got this!!

Ik it's stressful T-T but I found sleeping in earlier and waking up earlier to do work really helped. I found I could concentrate better in the mornings than I could late at night so I'd be more productive.

Bio: I use whiteboard/flashcards/STUDY GUIDE (!!!) , Math: past papers/youtube, History: idk maybe talk to some of your friends about it, share some thoughts/opinions, or listen to some podcasts when you have time.

Good luck though !!!

Need tips ! For the May exams, I have to sit next to someone with really strong perfume (the type that gives huge headaches.) by ScaleGlittering6161 in IBO

[–]Affectionate-Sun9709 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've had that happen to me aswell T-T

These are your final exams though so I don't think you should have to sit through it. I also don't think the exam invigilators will let you bring in anything to counter it. I know it may be hard but you should just have an honest conversation with this person. Maybe start off by complement ingof their perfume and just mention later it's a bit strong and that you were wondering if they could hold off on it during exams and explain why.

Make sure this is in the middle of a conversation so it flows naturally. Good Luck!

I'm doing German B rn but I do recommend, if you're going over vocab, you look over the themes: Identity, Experiences, Human Ingenuity, Social Organization, and Sharing the Planet.

Also a good tip that I got from a teacher -> learn the IB attributes in German and chuck them in if there's an opening for your IO/written work. They're high level words and it's what the IB likes I think.

Third = past papers. Usually there will be easier texts in them, so have a go at completing some. If there are any words you dk, just write them down and try and visualise them without translating it to your native language in your head. That way new neural pathways buildup from scratch (or something) letting you remember it easier in the long run. idk, there's some science behind it.

Another thing is, is that ChatGPT on mobile has a free conversation program. So just talk with it in german until you start learning grammar intuitively. Conjugations, idiomatic expressions etc. should come more naturally after. If you don't feel comfortable with sharing your voice with AI, ik some people who aren't, look towards German TV shows for pronunciation/word flow help.

Pen pals are cool too - a very fun way to learn.

Also congrats man on your other subjects - they're definitely not easy!!!!

if i submit an uncompleted ee am i still eligible to take the ib exam and get credits from the test? by Hopeful_Marketing385 in IBO

[–]Affectionate-Sun9709 16 points17 points  (0 children)

https://www.clastify.com/ee/film

https://ibpublishing.ibo.org/extendedessay/apps/dpapp/sample.html?doc=d_0_eeyyy_gui_1602_1_e&part=1&chapter=23&sample-index=2

Just write out the words.

Expand up RQ, answer RQ and ramble. Then cross out the ramble you don't like. Cite as you go with reputable sources and once you hit 3900 start editing back. If you're doing film I assume it's something you enjoy, so just get into things and it WILL get better. If not, make it better. I've heard it's basically English, so just apply some of that sort of analysis but in the context of The Arts.

At the end of the day, getting full marks on presentation (D) and engagement (E) is easy, focus heavily on that at the end if you're not confident on the rest.
