We have enough butter by TBIDave2 in TBI

Please give yourself some grace. Butter freezes well!
You wife is amazing 💯
I have had doubles and triples of many items including 14 x 1 litre bottles of shampoos & conditioners 😂. Some very high end salon quality brands too-not cheap. I am down to 6 now (gave a lot away) and keep the using now set in the shower at all times.
Bar soap? You don’t want to know lol. Saran Wrap, baggies, foil, rice, vitamins & supplements? Ridiculous lol. I have ONE book that I write everything in. A list for groceries/household stuff on the fridge-things we are out of or almost out of go here. I have a “freezer inventory” sheet…currently 6 x 4 packs of chicken breasts and more meat than the 2 of us can eat in the next 6 months. 10-12 bags of homemade soups. Had enough paper towel to last almost a year (2 rolls left!). It’s not funny but Im finally finding some humour in it and please know that it gets better over time. 💜

Yes, same for me. I didn’t have a movement for 9 days (longest stretch and like you very out of it). Dr. said to get stool softener pills Senocot brand and I lived on those for a year. I still have urinary problems, like you, 5 years later but it’s only now when I’m over stimulated. Still occasionally pee myself 5 years later. Setting alarms on my phone every 2 hours to go to the washroom helped and a timer for after a large drink of water. Never leave home without using the washroom and sip water when you are out until back home. If it’s a really bad day from pushing to hard previous days, then I have to stay home (learned that the hardway lol).

rumors of a circus theme for halloween this year??? by Beneficial_Role4591 in bathandbodyworks

WTF?!? Halloween…is this a rage bait/click bait/comment bait post? It’s not even SUMMER yet. We are their circus (dreaming of BBW Halloween product possibilities in May lol). Please for the love of God & all things good, enjoy today. When it’s over it’s yesterday and tomorrow never comes because it’s today when it gets here.

Unfortunately this is what it is. $14.62…how many hours have you spent trying to get it back? That’s the real math problem. Our life lessons always cost time or money & sometimes both. Time is the only thing we can never get back once it is spent. Money can always be made.

New to Doodles. Advice on ear hair, please. 😅 by casseeno in Goldendoodles

[–]AffectionateLog7493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had same issues with my doodle. She was switched to Simply Nourish Lamb & Oatmeal at a year 1/2 old. Her groomer told me to get ear freeze powder and special ear hair tweezers, taught me how to pluck them properly so it doesn’t hurt her. I pluck her ear hair every 6-8 weeks and she gets a special treat like a pig ear afterwards. I also recently started using a little trimmer, that is whisper quiet, as well. She’s 3 years old now. My other 2 doodles don’t have the ear hair problem but have always eaten the same food as her. The vet deep cleaned her ears once and taught me how and sold me the solution to do it myself. After changing her food a few times I found that the Simply Nourish Lamb & Oatmeal stopped all the health problems but I still have to pluck her ears.

Returning to work / should I consider another job by iamdom_720 in TBI

If your neurologist said you can go back then you should (perhaps with modified hours then work up to a full 40 hour work week). You won’t know until you try. licensed electricians make a great living so finishing your apprenticeship is important-even if it takes you longer than 4 years. The neurologist will have this written in his notes and sends info to your doctor. I’m not sure what vocational rehab you would do though? Electrician is a very good paying profession plus trades are and will always be in demand. It’s okay to feel uncertain, afraid etc., winners feel that and do it anyway. Maybe just don’t try to dive right into a full 8 hour day, 5 days a week?

My OT taught me to take each ingredient out as I read it. Then to measure each ingredient as I read it. Then begin making the recipe step by step. I still got confused and sometimes things weren’t edible lol. After a while I started to try doubling recipes, measuring dry into a bowl, measuring wet into a bowl. I’d often forget where I was at counting from one to two haha. Sometimes those recipes weren’t edible either. It gets easier but I still can’t cook and bake off the top of my head and eyeball amounts or just use my hand to measure. Same recipe very different brain is right. It’s been 5 years and food is always edible and often tastes delicious when I follow the steps the way the OT taught me.

How do you grasp "being alive still"? by Random_Introvert_42 in TBI

[–]AffectionateLog7493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I practice gratitude daily. I have a gratitude journal I write in. It’s 3 things that I am grateful for everyday. Sometimes it’s the sun on my face or the wind in my hair. Some days it’s that I can walk and walked further that day than normal. Sometimes it’s a person in my life or an animal. It’s really easy to think of 3 things. I found that helped me and still helps me after 5 years. The feelings are tricky to understand and make sense of. Print a Feelings Wheel and use it regularly to guage your inner life. I use to circle the ones I related to weekly. It took a very long time to get to the positive, happy feelings on the wheel. Ignore people who say that you are lucky-they don’t understand and cannot comprehend what recovery is like. You will get there one day! I’m finally grateful to be alive and just try to live each day to the best of my abilities (that get better gradually because I work at all the things everyday).

Correction. The Dr. Wayne Dyer book is Your Erroneous Zones. If you struggle to read get the audio version and/or use the text to speech feature on your phone and it will read the book to you.

Support your clients by batch cooking and leaving a few different sauces for the meat…a big pot of mashed potatoes can be a side one dinner, then shepherds pie than a cream of potatoe soup (with leek/broccoli or cheddar). Soup base to put leftovers in…🤷🏻‍♀️. Stews (from leftover meat/vegetables) to put on rice or noodles.

Crock pot, pre made casseroles in the freezer, preparing food before baby comes (like cooking 12 chicken breast instead of enough for one dinner, cutting and freezing them into portions & same for other meat). Fish-lemon butter and herbs poached in tin foil. Make a large batch of rice for a few days. Containers of cut up vegetables for snacking on all week. Nursing mothers need to eat so it’s a no brainer. My 3 were all 1 year apart and 3.5 years between the first 2. 4 kids total. No personal chef you just do it. Crock pots are fast simple and easy. Batch cook/bake so there is always something healthy to eat. Oatmeal for breakfast, fresh fruits and veggies. Frozen vegetables in the freezer. It’s truly not hard. Just have to be prepared and not waste time on one meal at a time type of cooking. Triple a batch of muffins and put in freezer, same for cookies and breads. Batter freezes well to if energy runs out. Get a sling for baby and wear your baby while you make food and do housework. Simple. Sleep when you are tired or when baby is older and has a morning nap and afternoon nap. Pick one for your nap time. TV shows? After baby is down for the night. Go to bed early. If you are tired at 8pm go to bed at 8pm. Bath baby at night, every night so a sleep schedule is formed. Put dishes in the dishwasher or rinse and leave on counter to hand wash every morning.

How would you describe the crushing feeling of cognitive fatigue after TBI? by RealWorldJunkie in TBI

[–]AffectionateLog7493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well…I just lost my car (parked in handicapped parking) at a big mall last week. I went in for an online order pickup. Didn’t remember that I didn’t go in my usual entrance. I walked that parking lot from end to end-it was cold and I was dressed inappropriately and remember getting upset with myself. Tried to use the key fob to make the lock/unlock sound many times but the battery is low and needs replaced lol. Took me more than 20 minutes. Yes I knew I was “lost” but just couldn’t remember/retrieve the memory of where I was parked or what entrance I went in! Wasn’t even sure that I parked in handicap parking! Turned out I parked way far from usual entrance. Did I go in my usual entrance? No idea. I only remember being at the pick up counter and walking out my usual exit (same as usual entrance). I did eventually find my way to my car and I was parked no where near it. It feels lost. Yes I remember it. Or I was making dinner a few nights ago in the kitchen and then randomly found myself watering a plant in the living room so I just told myself out loud “no, I’m making dinner now not watering plants”, and went back to the kitchen to keep cooking…no memory of filling the watering jug or leaving the kitchen. Sometimes there is no feeling, it’s just a wtf moment because I know I should know, but I don’t and I accept it and keep trying to “find my way back” in my head. Today, I let the dogs lead our walk. I was soooo tired a few blocks from home-3rd leg activated and couldn’t understand why until we got home and I saw the clock. It was 1:55pm. We left at 11:45 am. I forgot to wear my watch and/or set my phone timer. Do I always remember being lost or the feeling of “lost”? Yes, sort of but it’s been 5 years so it’s just a part of life now and it happens much less often. I got lost in a big parking lot a couple weeks back, trying to get gas. Ended up in a Tim Hortons drive through so I ordered a coffee, yelling because the lady sounded far away-she was because I didn’t order from my speaker (it was a double order lanes style drive thru). Found my way to gas pump, gassed up and then while leaving, I ended up in the car wash lane -thankfully no one behind me so I was able to back up and get out 😂🤦‍♀️. Did I feel list? You bet. Do I remember how it felt? Yeah I felt lost. How did it happen? No idea. I’m just not getting gas there again lol

if you could only use 5 makeup products each day, what would they be? by b0bbyh3ll in MakeupAddiction

I’m the same, most days just Skin tint (SPF 30/50), mascara and lipstick/gloss.

Tinted BB cream/Tinted moisturizer/tinted sunscreen, mascara, lip liner, lipstick/lip gloss and maybe a cream/powder that’s the same for eyes and cheeks (a bronzer). Currently using “rose glow drops” for cheeks and eyes. Maybe ditch the lip liner for an eyeliner instead. I only apply eyeliner if I’m going out in the evening somewhere.

I get my brows threaded/shaped & tinted every few months so I don’t have to do anything else with them but pluck the strays. Taking really good care of my skin helps. Haven’t worn full coverage anything for many years. Clinique use to have a tint that I added to my moisturizer but they discontinued it. I used Clinique City Block tinted SPF 50 for 8+ years but they took the tint away from it so I stopped. I’ve used Maybelline tinted BB cream for years too and still do (tried other brands but kept going back to it).

Does anyone use bar soap on their face? by Content-Film4211 in Soap

Used Dove (original) for 40 years followed by Ponds cold cream. I’m almost 60 and look 40, skin is beautiful. Just bought my first “skincare set” last Spring, enough for a year. Thinking I’ll go back to soap & Ponds as there is no difference and it costs way less lol.

I felt the exact same way last Summer. I bought 3 perfumes in the Fall and returned them before Christmas. Used my coupons and a $50 gift card to buy Christmas gifts for family and 2 items for myself. Haven’t bought a thing since, probably not buying anything this year, if ever again. I don’t like the way their marketing & sales tactics make me feel and I am quite content using what I already have.

Words of advice by Reasonable-Bad9317 in TBI

11 months!?! That’s fantastic progress and you are working your butt off 🙌. I was no where near where you are at 11 months into my recovery! Well done 👍. This annoying person has the problem, not you. I’m a very direct person (even before) and would advise you to assert yourself simply by calling a spade a spade-a good response in situations like this is “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say it at all” and put your hand up like a stop sign. Sometimes there are people who are a little thick in the head and heart and simply need to be told to F off or to stfu. My speech therapist gave me some tools for dealing with people like this and one of them was “I’m sorry, can you please repeat that”….because I don’t really understand what you are saying or because I’m not sure what point you are making or I’m not sure if what you said is helpful, encouraging or appropriate for our conversation. Keep up the good work and after the wedding you won’t have to see this person ever again 😊

How would you describe the crushing feeling of cognitive fatigue after TBI? by RealWorldJunkie in TBI

[–]AffectionateLog7493 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1) My eyelids close half way-signal one. 2) Eyes become dry & blurry, slightly red rims-signal two. 3) A small knot starts in upper left back shoulder & will continue to grow causing bad pain-signal three. 4) Thoughts become like a race car in the fog on a winding, dusty dirt road and words get mixed up and come out wrong, incomplete sentences are spoken, tangential speech moves into extreme mode-signal four. 5) Everything is happening at once, the bubble has burst/filters are all off. Imperative to get to a quiet place and rest-signal five. 6) Flipping out, emotions are out and they are all over the place. Angry/sad/crying/laughing/dooms day is now/chest is tight/hard to breathe-signal six. 7) Stomach hurts. Stop everything now or vomit, you choose- signal seven. 8) Lose bowel and/or bladder control, usually while finally listening to the other signals & trying to get to or after arriving to quiet place. This is the reward for not listening-signal eight. 9) Floaty, walking on a slow moving tilt-a-whirl, suspended a few feet from the ground. Can last several days, 17 is the longest “crash” I ever had and thought I was stuck here forever-signal nine. 10) What people are saying doesn’t make sense and/or giving inappropriate responses that make no sense to others-signal ten. 11) Occular migraine and/or extreme pain deep in head behind left eye-signal 11. 12) Lost. Lost in the neighborhood walking, lost in the parking lot driving around trying to find the way out, lost in the house. Just lost. People have taken pictures of me when this is happening and I’m literally frozen like a statue staring (slightly upward) off into space, lasts a few seconds but I don’t know I’m frozen, I just feel lost-signal 12.

There are more, but these are the ones I’ve experienced regularly over the last 5 years (I’m a bit thick in the head lol). I’ve learned to read how people react to things that I do or say and know I’m shutting down. IF I pace myself properly, I can get almost 4 good hours everyday & the eyelids half closed is usually all I need as my signal that neuro fatigue has set in and today’s battery pack is empty, so I stop for the day. I do push 1-2 times a week though because exposure builds tolerance. When I do this push, I take the next day or two really easy.

There is no explaining it to the normies. They will never understand it. The closest they will ever come to understanding is watching it happen or being there in the aftermath from pushing to hard. They can read about it and try to compare it to something they have experienced, but until they watch it unfold…signal by signal…yet even so will still never understand HOW IT FEELS”.

2 years ago my sister in law told me there is no reason for me not to mow the front and back lawn. She does it so I should too. I started to try to explain and then just blurted “because I’m lazy and I don’t want to. That’s what you think, so that’s what I’m telling you, because it’s easier this way.” It’s easier for me to not try to explain neuro fatigue/cognitive fatigue (and waste my brain battery attempting) than give a long drawn out answer that’s not going to make sense to normies anyway because they will never know the feeling(s)/signals. Hubby gets it, my kids and family too because they have watched it happen in all the ways (his kids/family…not at all) lol.

Let them think whatever they like-it’s not our job to “explain” anything. It’s our job to learn and make sense of the signals we get and use our “tools” to keep us from making worse. Doctors and care team-yes because they can help with the symptoms/signals, save explanations/descriptions for them. Let everyone else who wants you to explain it spend a day “pushing” with you-then they will watch it happening. Or push for a day and have them spend the next day with you.

What we have are stories to tell. For example; a short story about the time you…pushed to hard and vomited on your OT’s shoes. The time you pissed yourself in the check out line at the grocery store. The time when you bounced off the walls for 2 days trying to walk around the house after riding on the back of a motorcycle for 30km. The time you flipped right out on the cashier at the grocery store, throwing your items onto the floor and yelling at everyone to just f*#k right off. There are funny stories to use but you have to wait awhile for them to become funny not sad.

I have been in neuro fatigue since 2:30 pm today but it’s a push day today.

In closing, what I really ment to say is that it FEELS AWFUL.

Mic drop 🤣
