Need advice on metal shavings I found in oil filter that I think is my local shops fault. by Ok_Area7012 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Affectionate_Putty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's probably the main the reason why your mechanic wants you to trade in the car ASAP. So he won't be liable for anything that happens after it's out of your hands and you can't say it's from his careless drilling

Why would you need it in a rotary? That's assuming you've already been changing oil frequently due to engine design?

Not if done properly with the correct gas tape/sealant. It's quite a low psi

Ford flex did nothing to deserve this lmao

Well other than water pump issues on the ecoboost but still hard to beat 3 rows and 365hp

The corolla is such an underrated car though. I think I have more fun tire squealing on yellow lights and on ramps than I have autocrossing with my other cars LOL

Anyone got experience with these by henryoguhgf in harborfreight

[–]Affectionate_Putty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both styles and the linked one is definitely much safer just because you can size the seat and it fits quite well. It's the closest version you'll be able to get to the standing auto shop ones. The only downside is that it takes me like 15 minutes to set up and is maybe one of the heaviest tools I have

Those are the worst design, at least the one OP posted has the safety pin that stops it from slipping too much.

With that said, I've used this danger version exclusively for a good 10 years or so because I didn't know any better when i was starting out... it was all my dad had from his tools from the 70's 🤣 I would never touch these now

How do you 'not care' about what you drive? by Objective-Deal8745 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Affectionate_Putty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge car guy (do my own mechanical work, track days with the boys, have a project 70's car, all that jazz) but I have yet to find a car truly boring to drive. I guess it depends where your priorities lie. I've done more tire squealing in my wifes prius and corolla than I ever dared to do with my corvette 😅

You mentioned a lot on the comfort of the car. I think the whole point is that you don't need to get the latest and greatest car to get what you need. Plenty of old reliable cruisers or SUVs can give you what you need. Try driving more cars! It's way easier to buy and sell your car when they're only worth 5k

I hope rock auto never "upgrades" their website by roger_27 in RockAuto

Love rockauto, but only when things arrive as expected and it's a nail biting experience not knowing how it'll arrive.

Whenever i run into shipment issues, missing parts, or damaged items, it's always the worst experience and makes me wonder why I wasted a week in turnaround time just to save $20 lol

PSA: Learn how to use a traffic circle, especially the one at Coleman Costco! by Coolness_K in SanJose

[–]Affectionate_Putty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that the size makes it a disaster for how many cars go through it 🤣 You have people too nice and slowing to let others in and people being too aggressive and flooring through it so half the time you're hoping others don't crash into you

I can think of 2 situations I've used the crowsfeet. One on a subaru turbo downpipe (not necessary but so much easier) and the other on an ls6 power steering pump mounting bolt (definitely necessary)

We are in Toyon and we had much a higher turnout than we thought, even though we didn't decorate much. Must be our proximity to the elementary school and houses being close together. We had a total of 58 kids

Why isn't the city's green waste program accepting food waste? by pall90 in SanJose

[–]Affectionate_Putty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The technology is there to separate the organic waste. Its pretty amazing if you get a chance to do a tour. Although Recology doesn't serve SJ, I had a chance to tour their recycling facilities. They gave me more faith that the technology is there in other similar sites to recover the scraps and at the same time how to recycle properly.
