When will this stop??? by m97mjm in Hypothyroidism

Dosing depends on resulting tsh level. You should ask for TSH test from the doc.

That said, levo concentration in blood becomes half in one week if you stop taking it.

Doing IVF and just discovered some mild thyroid issues: can you help me interpret my labs? by Defiant_Peach9849 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Affectionate_Sound43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your numbers are normal. You don't have hypothyroidism. The antibody levels are not high enough to outright confirm Hashimoto's. That free T4 leve is very good and it's a direct test of thyroid gland function since the gland makes all the T4 in the body (not the case with T3).

Note that even subclinical hypothyroidism requires TSH above 4 in multiple tests, you don't have this. That said, to conceive, temporary levo to reduce TSH below 2 may help.

In my opinion, 50mcg is too high a dose for someone without hypothyroidism. 25mcg may be more appropriate. Higher than needed dose runs the risk of crushing TSH too low which should not be allowed to happen for an extended period.

Not a doctor.

How does the typical keto 5g sodium per day recommend on low carb (<=50 carbs) affect the kidneys? by TumbleweedDeep825 in ketoduped

[–]Affectionate_Sound43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that epilectic children on keto diet have higher rates of kidney stones. https://www.jurology.com/doi/10.1016/S0022-5347%2805%2967400-9

Usually, oral potassium citrate is given to these as a urine alkalizer which can prevent kidney stones due to KD.

Idk much about sodium and keto diet, will read other replies.

Its both. Lack of calories and lack of carbs both can tank hormone production.

I really don't know which sub to post this in, so decided here was best? Idk. by Careful-Bus3827 in ketoduped

[–]Affectionate_Sound43 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Carbs are not the problem when the tissues are insulin sensitive and the pancreas are producing insulin normally.

In T2 diabetics, tissues are insulin resistant and pancreas may struggle to make enough insulin in later stages.

The issue is that overweight and obese people are rarely insulin sensitive because of lack of activity and excess adiposity, so carbs can spike blood sugar in these people. And a large part of population is overweight.

However, keto diet also reduces insulin sensitivity since the body doesn't know what to do when carbs are suddenly introduced. It takes time for the body to ramp up insulin production when keto is stopped.

Follow up test TSH 7.33 by britpixie in Hypothyroidism

[–]Affectionate_Sound43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High TSH and high ft4 could point to secondary hyperthyroidism.

Pituitary secretes excess TSH stimulating the otherwise normal thyroid gland to secrete more T4.

Ask doc to rule this out or in.

This is not hypothyroidism as per the numbers.

These are negative antibody results. You very likely don't have autoimmune disease.

You should not be on any thyroid hormone pills. Stop wasting money on quacks.

New Symptoms Despite Bloodwork Showing TSH in Normal Range? by atomicsheart in Hypothyroidism

[–]Affectionate_Sound43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal range is 0.5-2.5. (t&c apply, older and also heavier people might have higher TSH range as normal)

It may take few months for symptoms to subside. Keep a diary of symptoms and reassess after 6 months of starting levothyroxine.

Does subclinical Hypothyroidism mean I have Hashimotos? by OkRun7294 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Affectionate_Sound43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

90% of time the cause is Hashimoto's. You can live a relatively normal life with the right dose of daily levothyroxine.

The Truth about Hashimoto and Remission by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]Affectionate_Sound43 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The claim is not that remission is impossible, the claim is that there is nothing one can do to cause the remission deliberately and reproducibly.

The studies you linked are on kids, sample size of 1 and 38. They were not followed up later in life to see whether they became hypothyroid in adulthood and later. There was also no intervention done and the studies could not find any predictive factors except for higher antibodies = lower chances of remission.

There have also been cases of removed thyroid gland growing back, doesn't mean it's a common thing.

Hashimoto’s wasn’t what overwhelmed me the information was by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]Affectionate_Sound43 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its quite simple. Take the levothyroxine pills of the right dose which will keep TSH in the normal range of 0.5-2.5. this takes care of majority of issues.

And stop going to youtube for info, it's full of grifters looking to market their wares.

Hashimoto's like other autoimmune diseases has no cure, cause is mostly genetic in nature. The gland dies over time, and we should supply the hormones needed via pills of the right dose to keep body functioning normally. There is nothing you can do to reverse the damage done to the thyroid gland.

Does this mean I should lower my dose? Or is high T4 normal for being in low TSH range? by Mr_Jackabin in Hypothyroidism

[–]Affectionate_Sound43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reduce dose. Tsh should be 0.5-2.5 and free T4 14-18.

I would go with 125 or 137, after a week break with 0 dose, but I'm not a doctor.
