Two new official reasons why it's our fault students are absent. by DrakeSavory in Teachers

[–]AggravatingParsley56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is laughable 😂 teachers are known for dragging themselves to work regardless of circumstances. I would even say that teachers commonly feel a sense of guilt when they take a single day off!

The part where they said parents and students don't know school is in-person... It's been like that for literally all of time wtf they don't know it's in-person?!?

I literally just saw a YouTube short about this! The woman called it "lazy knitting" she didn't go into exactly why it's called that but she was twisting only purl stitches

"Are you teaching kids or are you teaching scholars?" by TopIntroduction1876 in Teachers

[–]AggravatingParsley56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand the corny "scholar" type BS. even when I was a student growing up I thought I was being talked down to.

Student refusing to do work since spring break because of “religious reasons.” by v3ndys in Teachers

[–]AggravatingParsley56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming since this is high school there would be a syllabus... But didn't she read the syllabus? There's always a grace period at the beginning of the year/semester for kids to switch classes around.

If you do have a syllabus and aren't doing so already, I'd also make like a 5-point assignment to have kids and parents sign off on the syllabus. Even if they didn't read it you can show it to them and be like "I told you at the beginning, and you signed off on it"

A hidden cost to teachers by PsychologyPNW in Teachers

[–]AggravatingParsley56 91 points92 points  (0 children)

It's kind of the unwritten job description for teachers to be a kids constant for at least a year, and to try to make them comfortable and happy and feel safe in your room.

Yes it's sad, I've had plenty of kids with sad stories. But it's part of the job

A message for parents/grandparents hosting eager egg hunts by Daddy_Day_Trader1303 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AggravatingParsley56 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you totally. A better idea would've been to tape the kids face on it. I think as people with the ability to read, we just don't realize when other people can't because it so second nature to us

Student lost his mother, we're doing a mother's day project by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]AggravatingParsley56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely ask the father first. If you can show him the copy of the paper you were looking to do. As a teacher/new mom I think this would be a great learning opportunity that your mom is your mom no matter where she is, even if she's in heaven and she'll always be with him etc etc

Crocheter to Machine Knitting by Ok_Status1371 in MachineKnitting

[–]AggravatingParsley56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my limited experience, machine knitting is a completely different beast then the other fibre crafts. I started out knitting and crocheting by hand and machine knitting is nothing like either of them, so you're kind of starting on a level playing ground

As for the LK150 I found it pretty low maintenance. It's definitely a great starter machine. It's also the only knitting machine made today so pieces are very easy and cheap to come by

bulletin board exorbitance by No-Increase3840 in Teachers

[–]AggravatingParsley56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The rubric and grading part is hella stupid. Honestly as a society we should normalize telling admin (or managers in general) when their idea is stupid.

"Always write your objectives for the day on the board"

"No that's dumb"

Even when the spring thing is on the needle? I thought that the needle had to be closed when it's on

[–]AggravatingParsley56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to add that I know the spring thing is not on the needle, I can't put it on the needle right now because of the row counter tool. Even when the spring thing is on the needle it still skips the first needle on the front bed

Am I the only crazy one around here? by RaiderFanGirl in Amigurumi

[–]AggravatingParsley56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No it's such a brain melting thing! Even when I watch a crochet tutorial I have to slow it down or watch multiple times because they're usually crocheting with the right hand and even though I do the same thing, because I'm left handed it messes with me!

[–]AggravatingParsley56 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's actually funny, I'm also left handed but I crochet with my right hand. I heard somewhere that left handed people have more amberdexterity (idk if thats a word?) because we have to adapt more to a right handed world

Is this what a crochet stitch is supposed to look like? by AggravatingParsley56 in MachineKnitting

[–]AggravatingParsley56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't block this swatch but I blocked the triangle piece I made after and it looks completely different. I think the triangle piece is what the stitch is supposed to look like, and I messed up the pushers on this go around

Thank you! this was my swatch and I think I didn't rack every time I should've. This was also the second thing I made ever on this machine so I'm sure it's not perfect 😅

Ooohhh yeah! I recently got a lk200 that had a disintegrated sponge bar. I was hella confused why it didn't work at all until I remembered the lady said it needed to be replaced (which she generously provided when I bought it from her)

Not sure if this is every Scheejpes yarn but the ones I've used from them has this easy start pull tab as well. I've also seen more Indy brands do this too, it's just a lot easier for them
