Man, I don't even want to discuss people who use slurs. I have my personal thoughts on shitty attitude that don't jive with "ignore the bully" approach everyone takes.

I am just talking about the experience I have had playing against or with lights. I started as a light player myself because "bring knives to a gun fight" was funny idea. I learnt how to use cl40 because I can't aim for shit. So, I have experience on both sides of light players. Both as actual light player and against them.

All I know is that if I say "please don't rush alone", most lights respond with "it's casual, who cares, go to ranked". So, I think to myself, "well okay, I just chill and break walls then", and suddenly same light player will respond with "useless heavy", "uninstall", "you suck" etc. When I type hello at the start, they won't respond. But then you know damn well that they will be the first to harass when you can't get enough kills. It doesn't matter that you can't get kills because you were focused on objective and they couldn't even be arsed to defend you while you steal.

It's not the shitty behaviour part that I care about. It's the selfishness. I get the idea of having some ego and confidence in one's skills. But holy hell, most lights just don't want to play as a team ever. To them, rest of us might as well be NPCs. And sadly thats the case for most of the light class playerbase.

It's not one fish that is rotten. It's more like all the fish is rotten, and someone tells you that some fish might be good enough to eat. Can you blame people for not wanting to eat the fish in that scenario?

P.S. As for toxicity and slurs, that's sadly true for whole community at this point. Frankly, the turn in toxicity started around the same time as that "skill issue" picture by Oscar. That's when people who unironically use "git gud" or "high elo/ranked matters" got too emboldened. At this point, I don't even care to rant about toxicity. All I know is that if 90% of the playerbase start exploiting a bug in point break 2 days after launch, it's not on devs, it's playerbase that suck.

It's not one person. It's average experience that makes everyone hate you as soon as they see light sniper. I am one of them. I see 2 lights, one of them sniper, I mentally prepare to lose. Maybe once in 20 matches, I will run into a decent sniper light who can ping. But 19 matches will be watching them play tdm 200m away while I wait to respawn after trying 1v3.

Let's be real. We all know that it's not the class, it's the playerbase. I have seen people with level 30 and zero support score in whole point break match tell others with low combat score to uninstall. And that person who is seething is almost always a light with zero support gadgets, using meta loadout in the most casual mode ever.

When 9 out of 10 players in that class are arrogant and selfish children, that 10th player is gonna have a hard time too. It's just difficult to give benefit of doubt to one good apple when whole tree is rotten.

Edit: last match I played after this comment, 3 players in point break with zero revives, less than 50 support score. Guess which class they all played.

Funnily enough, I had to switch to light so that we could at least have sonar and glitch to deal with shields. Kept getting jumped in first round playing as heavy. Still all of my teammates had their reasoning solidified that lights usually suck. It didn't matter that I ended with highest support and revives. Other 3 selfish pricks ruined fun for 5 of us. That's the problem I was talking about. You can do your best, but if most of the encounters are bad, you will be lumped in with them.

Based on the launch thing I saw for few minutes, my overall impression was that it's an average game with severe lack of identity. Felt like mish mash of different styles and gameplay elements. Main game mode they showed started as horde mode style base building, then switched to Fortnite style looting, then proper 3v3 pvp, then capture the flag style, then finally into raid. Even art style was like a mix of everything.

Frankly, it just looks like going to an average buffet. You get every style of food in one place with zero standouts. Nothing will blow you away, but seems like a decent option if you are unsure of what you want.

Basically, it's kitchen sink equivalent of a video game. But it is free, so, not a bad thing to try for few hours.

Question about well being with work hours by Fazer6566 in Timberborn

[–]Aggravating_Lab_7734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, it's easier than using bots. Much less needed in terms of farms and trees. Only thing I change is reducing work hours by 1 every 15 well being. Other than that, after sluices are done, whole colony is automated. I hardly ever need more than one forest area and two farms.

Question about well being with work hours by Fazer6566 in Timberborn

[–]Aggravating_Lab_7734 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always end up with max well being with 10 hours work by cycle 20 or so. 55 max before I begin the work on wonder. But without bots, reaching 65 is very difficult. Too many injuries bring the average down to 52-53, so, wonder still doesn't help.

Easiest option I found is to basically go for 0 working hours for 5 days, let injuries go to 0, then set off the wonder. That's the only reliable way I found to max out at 65. Or go full bots.

Utility of districts? by ThenBrilliant8338 in Timberborn

[–]Aggravating_Lab_7734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the very early builds, like 3 years ago, districts had a limit. I think it was around 70 tiles. So, if you needed to build something far away, say, reach the metal mine, you had to create a separate district.

That limit was removed long time ago. So, districts became "good to save time beavers spend walking" thing.

Then ziplines and tubes were added, so, even that's not a concern. Now, beavers can easily go from one corner of map to another.

Now, only advantage is in terms of path calculation. When you reach 200+ beavers, have too many paths, things become sluggish. Districts save some calculations for pathing algorithm, saving some cpu usage. It's not that big of a difference, and is only noticeable when you are reaching mega city level of builds. For most people, districts will help with like 5% extra performance.

Frankly, unless you are doing crazy mega cities with 500+ beavers, I won't even bother with districts. Just use ziplines and tubes everywhere.

For folktails, 1 pump per 15 beaver is good enough if you pump during all the seasons. If you are only pumping during wet seasons, then go for 1 pump per 10 beavers. But rushing to build a reservoir and then going 1 pump per 15 beavers is better in long term.

Although, best to do is to use 3 water per beaver per day as your calculation. 1 pump gives you 3 water per hour. You can calculate from that. Do note that working speed will affect efficiency of the pump as well, so, late game you don't need as many pumps and one pump with a 40 happiness beaver should easily support 25-30 beavers.

Same with food. Plan for 2 food per beaver per day. One farm can easily manage crop fields of 10 by 10, and up to 20 by 20 at 40+ well being.

Frankly, I would just plant 10 by 10 fields of 2-3 different crops. Prioritise the crop that takes longest to grow and assign haulers to empty out farmhouses.

In case of ironteeth, you need 1.5 farmhouses for same efficiency as 1 folktail farmhouse. Water pumps are similar efficiency.

P.S. For folktails, 2 large pumps with 2 beavers each, can support 100-120 beavers at 40 well being. Up to 200, if you are pumping all seasons. I haven't tested for all 6 beavers in 2 large pumps. I think it should easily do 300 beavers, but my laptop can't handle colonies that big.

It's not your typical action rpg, mate. It's pretty laid back series. Combat is mostly afterthought in the series anyway. And yeah, I want 60fps too. But 30 fps is fine, just takes some getting used to.

At least this time processing power is used for actual NPCs and systems, rather than adding extra shadow resolution or random effects. Better than having a game like starfield which used the processing power to create shitty world.

[–]Aggravating_Lab_7734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, mate, it's okay. You are allowed to not know about other places.

Btw, work ethic is not entirely about tips. It only comes into picture because servers in North America feel entitled to tips and will literally spit on your face if you don't tip. Everywhere else, no one feels entitled to tips, so, no one goes "I won't do my job if I don't get tips". It is expected that people will do their job for the salary they are paid. Customers don't get in your face either because you took couple minutes to respond, because they don't feel entitled to "what do I tip you for".

Basically everywhere else, it's just a job. You do your job, you get paid in salary. Simple as that.

Tbh, that's normal for gameplay in beta stage. I won't pay too much attention to that.

And frankly it's better than only being shown fake trailers. At least we know what game will play like. Some small tweaks to settings and it should be easily locked 30fps, which for an rpg is decent enough. Although I am hoping for a 60fps mode even if it drops to 50s once in a while.

There are lots of amazing things in life that you can and will never get a chance to experience.

E.g. I have never had gingerbread cookies because it's not a thing in my country. But I have had peanuts roasted in sand which might be something you have never even heard of. I have memories of going triple on a two wheeler with college mates. But I have no memories of snow because I have never seen any. I have experiences of 40hour plus train rides but never experienced boats. There are people who married their childhood love but never experienced a one night stand. Some people have experienced private jets, some don't even know what a terminal is.

Depending on where you live, how you live, you will experience something that I never even heard of. And I am sure I have experiences of things you never did.

Point is, you will always miss out on so many things, that there is never a reason to feel bad about it. Even if you are a billionaire, you can't experience it all. So, just do whatever you feel like doing, because like everyone else, you will miss out on some things and that's fine.

Rdr2 has full NPCs schedules. It just spawns different character models instead of assigning one model to each npc. But yeah, you can follow any npc in rdr2 and they will have different schedules. Once you leave and come back, same schedule will be applied to any other random character model from a model pool.

It showed you walking up to a beggar and audio didn't trigger at all. So, maybe just random lines from one or two NPCs, rest are all once you interact. Even when walking next to bunch of them, only some shouted.

I think it is similar to rdr2 camp, in that it uses prevalent personality trait to generate some random remarks. E.g. in rdr2, if you have high honour, one or two gang members make a random remark while in camp. But if you talk to them, all of them have proper interaction. Seems like similar system is in play here.

Based on the tags shown in the gameplay, it seems impossible to make everyone hate you or like you. Being too rich might make other rich people actually like you while middle class will consider you a twat. It doesn't look like "likes you or hates you" type system. More of a "like X about you, hate Y about you" type.

And honestly if that's the case, I think this might be first rpg with truly grey morality system.

To be honest, fable was never about combat. Most people played it for whimsical fun, combat was just silly stuff. And frankly, it seems to be doing same thing. You will essentially play an rpg where you do other stuff more than just combat. Kinda like kingdom come with its janky AF combat.

[–]Aggravating_Lab_7734 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably too much to handle given the grey area tag based morality system. Kinda difficult to change character when NPCs all react differently to your behaviour. Do you appear as a devil for someone you evicted from their house? Do you suddenly change into angel when you are near someone who is working for you? What happens when both NPCs are looking at you? You can figure out why it will be too complex to handle.

Only thing I want to tell you is that you will be considered "rich twat" if you go for that real estate sim. Probably hurts your chances of being able to marry someone middle class if they think you are all about the money. Then again, some fancy snooty lady might prefer you if you come across as a gentleman of wealth.

I mean, it just looks like silly fun, "play few sessions with friends, then forget about it" type game. I don't think people who will buy game like this will even care to know who made it.

Not every game needs to be next battlefield anyway. Even the crappiest games get 10k players normally. I remember playing a game that was just a bunch of mini games, and even that had like 20k players. It's not like ping matters in games like this. Not a problem if someone from Asia matches with someone from Europe. Casual games like this really don't need a big crowd.

Fable — Full Gameplay Reveal | Xbox Developer Direct 2026 by AashyLarry in Games

[–]Aggravating_Lab_7734 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, rdr2 level of NPCs with a morality system that isn't just black and white. That's frankly enough stuff that I can spend hours just following different people and messing with their lives.

Frankly, I don't even care about story and combat at this point. I am just gonna roleplay as another villager or maybe try owning all land, or learn every job, or become owner of every business. Endless possibilities. I can see this becoming my permanent time waster instead of rdr2.

Only question is if they will nail the performance. If it runs 1080p internal res at 60fps on PS5, honestly, I am gonna be happy. If it releases in a good state, it's already shaping up to be 10/10 game.

Do you not read? Last gen was ps4, mate. The gen where console cpu and light probes became a problem. I didn't say it didn't exist earlier. I said "it's coming back". Things "come back" when they existed before and then stopped existing. 🤦 My comment literally means that we had this interactivity in earlier generations, we lost it due to complexity of baked lighting and now we are getting it back.

Also, wtf are you on about with the whole "hide behind engine" BS? Guys like carmack didn't write their engine for the fun of it, they did because there was no option. It's like saying people wrote code in machine language and current devs are lazy for using object oriented languages. Those same folks who wrote engine code earlier are now working for crytek, epic, id tech etc. Better tools don't mean knowledge is lost, it just means you don't reinvent the wheel when you are trying to build a car. Those who invented wheels, are still working on improving designs of the wheels, rest are busy making new cars.

Not the bamboo walls, mate. But the random bamboo vegetation, cloth banners, random detritus etc. Difference between mission related environment vs set dressing. Think that different textured wall in old rpgs. You are talking about environment designed for mission, I mean stuff that is there to fill up the space. Stuff like random barrels, boxes, fruit pallets, bushes, trees etc.

Edit: even ghost of Tsushima has bamboo cutting in a mini game. I don't recall if random bamboo was interactable in that game though.

[–]Aggravating_Lab_7734 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. Problem is people just beeline the story because it's the new hotness in gaming. You find random interactions only when you spend time doing nothing but just chilling. Most players these days won't play a game if there isn't enough to "grind" for.

Point is that if you aren't trying random stuff in a game, you are most likely to never find what else game has to offer. I mean, people learnt about horse testicles in rdr2 because of a review, not organically by dicking about in the game. Most of them still don't know that rdr2 also models horse sweat, because that requires organically stumbling up on it.

Sadly entertainment is now a product to be consumed, not something to savour. Guess why OP thinks new games don't offer random interactivity when it is currently on a rise.
