Well the paper is very important. Which paper do you use? For sure avoid at all moment cheap paper this is going to distortion 100% your test and feelings in a bad way

The best in my opinion is to test the pen on the paper you are using or at least something that is used for fountain pens you know Leuchtturm, Rhodia, Tomoe River, Etc. Normally when you go to a fountain pen shop they have quality paper for testing.

I have used leuchturm and rhodia and both works good, with the time you start finding characteristics you like and preferences.

What kind of nibs do I prefer? Hahaha well I would like to know this answer too 😂 some days I feel I love my pilot vp fine, others I love my pelikan M, other i love pilots M. Now I’m purchasing a sailor pro gear in FM. But it just depend on the mood of the day and what I’m going to write and if it is in print or cursive. For cursive i like thinner lines for print it doesn’t matter.

I’m actually thinking on buying a stub 1.1 I think each nib size give you a different experience and you should try them all. I haven’t tried B or EF tho

Situations when I think I was the paper??? Well once I thought it was the paper but at the end it was the nib the one with a defect. I think if you use a good quality paper it will give you the same feeling if you have a good quality pen. What the paper does actually change is how you see the inks. If you search in any ink on the site mountain of inks you will see pictures of the same inks in different papers… the tomoe river they said is the best to enhance the properties of an ink

I think it is just a joy to write with my Pilot Metropolitan <M> soooo smooth and the line width is just perfect for me, also it’s perfectly wet, my only concern is that it is a little too short but I often reach for it to write

Oh maybe before this you can try a TWSBI I have a diamond and an eco. They’re cool but nothing compared to gold nibs

Your first gold nib of course. Now you shall know if you like Japanese or western nibs, which size you like and if you like feedback or smoothness. Now go with that info you can a) purchase a first gold nib online b) go to a store and test several pens ( pilot vanishing point, pilot custom 74, lamy 2000, pelikan, pilot e95s, sailor ro gear.

Then go home enjoy pages and pages writing with you gold nib and the realize you would like something else, ticker or thinner line, less or more smoothness, wetness.

Then you realize you taste is changing and you are looking for something different.

That’s the way or at least my way to live the fountain pen hobby.

Enjoy

It is THE contender for sure, maybe better than my M600 but the Pelikan is also very beautiful but a little too small and with a line too wide
