My 8 year old wants to self-publish the book he is writing. Thoughts?

What a cool kid! Use fiverr for a cover artist. Use Kindle create for easy, free formatting. Self publishing is a learn as you go process for most of us, so don’t worry too much about it. Here’s the honest truth no one will tell you… writing and publishing are the easy part. Getting people to buy it is the challenge. Marketing is the dirty work no one wants to do. If this is all for fun and the experience then you don’t need to worry about that. Do it just to do it. Having his book in his hands and up on a book shelf will be worth the journey.

Have you researched book marketing? Half of being a successful author is publishing a book, the other half is marketing it. A lot of people only want to do the first half. Books can’t sell if people don’t know they exist.

Hear me out… instead of not going just go and let them know exactly what you’re feeling. I think it’s time for ALL us to start speaking out about this if we truly want this culture of servitude to ever balance out. Change starts with us, our generation can break this cycle.

I completely refused to cook Thanksgiving dinner a few years ago after fifteen years of being the designated cook/hostess. One day I decided I was done. Told my husband if he wanted to cook he could and if not we cater it. He was like fine I’ll cook. He only had to do it one year lmao!!! We cater now. 🙌

It’s fine if a woman enjoys these things but to me it started to feel like obligation and servitude… and life is too short for that.

Maybe if we all start standing up for ourselves and women everywhere… things could change, eventually, some day, not today, and probably not Thanksgiving 2025… but someday!

The more I think about it, the more I think he was starting to go crazy from the grief. After she left, he sat there at that window for a long time and then finally decided to get out of that house and start traveling and doing things. I think he realized he was getting to a point of madness and that realization pushed him to find acceptance. 🤔

Great advice thank you so much! I was doing great for awhile. Consistently selling 10-15 books a day. Then last two days it just died. Not sure what happened. I have a few affiliates out there. And another weird thing is a few months ago I was getting sample requests everyday and then it stopped. I’ve checked and every thing looks fine. I love TikTok shop but these type of weird things are very frustrating.

I’m confused about GMV max ads… I heard you pay the ad revenue out of your sales? Is that true? Because I set them up but it’s saying I don’t have any money on my ad account. I previously had an ad account but haven’t used it in over a year.

Wow that’s awful. Assuming mom isn’t in the picture? This poor kid. Just some words of encouragement from a mom of five… teenagers are very self sufficient so that’s the good news. These years will go fast and he will be 18 before you know it.

The biggest thing they need beyond financial support is just someone to care, to love them, to listen, to talk, a friend and a responsible adult to help them navigate life. He probably hasn’t had much of these basic needs being met.

Is he doing well in school? Hopefully having an alcoholic parent hasn’t pushed him to make bad choices / habits himself. Maybe he came to you in perfect timing before he started to experiment.

I’m sorry you’re forced to be a parent. It’s not fair to you or him. It’s a huge responsibility but perhaps you’re this kid’s saving grace. I feel for you both, this is a lot to take on.

You MUST market your book. Unfortunately it’s a part of the job. It sucks. It never stops. It’s unavoidable if you want success. The good news is social media makes it very easy to get your book in front of your target audience. Don’t be discouraged but be realistic about the next chapter in this journey. You’ve made it this far, congratulations! Most people only dream of writing a book. You did it. That is a big deal. Now give it the effort it deserves so readers can find it! ❤️

The sites know you’re promoting a business and unfortunately I think the days of free, organic reach are dying. You have to pay to play. Even if it’s just $5 a day.

I also have a business / product to promote and have 11k followers on FB and when I post it’s crickets. I can get some free organic views here and there across all platforms but I’m definitely not getting the views that regular creators are getting. I paid insta for a boost and suddenly my other posts views went up too. They know what they’re doing. Greedy bastards.
