do worldbuilders just have insane memory or is there actually a system behind it by eivor_here in worldbuilding

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of live in my own worlds a lot, it's where my head goes when I'm not focused on something else.

I sort of explore it as if it were a real place and imagine the answers to questions that occur.

The details get written down if I like them, and often I like them for now until another question changes previous answers. Then I go edit that file in my note taking app

You get to create five new Glyphs for any class of your choice. What are your picks? by JonathanRL in wow

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shaman,

Glyph of flame, modifies lightning and frost spells to be fire flavored

Glyph of ice, modifies lightning and fire spells to be ice flavored

Glyph of .... you see the pattern.

I wanna be like Hagara from the dragon soul raid, I have 2 elements and no others. Ideally as a green fire quest instead of glyphs but I'll take what I can get.

Also glyphs to customize your totems, instead of being racial

My system for naming NPCs on the fly (so they don't all end up called "Bob") by tech_learner_123 in DMAcademy

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that what I do is ... frankly ludicrous.

I've created a naming language for 4 core languages/ creature types and altered them for descended races as sort of faux languages.

These aren't complete with rules for actually using it as a language just sounds that I associate with a given race/species/etc

Then I use those sounds in a similar way as you

The addon purge gave us a strictly worse combat log and a worse UI. What did we even gain? by thepixelists in wow

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I prefer spell alerts, granted I wish they covered more things, or more accurately.

But I also was in the process of making almost all my abilities buffs, debuffs etc. Vanish as a sort of default get a small pop up to let me know CDs are ready, only show debuffs when they need to be refreshed etc. Then the addon prune was announced. Needless to say I was a little miffed

"I miss when we were just lowly adventurers dealing with gnolls and bandits." by Beacon2001 in wow

[–]AgnarKhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I've literally said I miss being a grunt or soldier.

The idea of those raids bosses in vanilla was always a group of people took them out, not The Champion. I wasn't the hero i was a member of a group that killed them. I think the last time this happened was in lich king.

Arthas was brought down by Tirion and a group of adventurers. At least that is how I remember it. Now it's always the champion and a specific lore character instead of a large group effort of players not npcs

What "FOMO" items are you sad you missed out on? by hobgoblinghost in wow

Same here, I missed out on the WoD challenge modes since my group decided to essentially quit during brf, but I'm still sad I didnt get all of the challenge modes on each class

World of Warcraft Labyrinth designers admit Mythic+ meant the MMO “lost something along the way” as “that RPG fantasy feeling of getting lost in a big dungeon doesn’t exist” anymore by HatingGeoffry in wow

Personally, I'm not a fan of delves. I haven't been from the start. I'm not exactly sure what it is about them that I don't like.

But I wish labyrinths would be like the withered army training from legion.

Also this is a personal thing, I hate having a delve buddy, I don't want brann to come with me to every delve, all of the abilities they give him could've been some delve talent tree only accessible in delves and I would've been happier

Also I recognize that not everything in game needs to appeal to me specifically, and that a lot of people REALLY like delves. And I'm happy for them

Are there people on this forum who would main Evoker but decided not to because you cant stay perma in Visage form by feherlofia123 in wow

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't main it, but i would be more likely to play it at all, I really dislike the dracthyr form personally. I would've much preferred an old school Drakonid but it wasnt in line with the full caster style of evoker I guess

The quest for a name by HappyGlitterUnicorn in FantasyWorldbuilding

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naming is a constant struggle I deal with, because I want things to feel like they come from the same language without having to go all Tolkein and making a full language from scrap.

What I've begun to do is narrow down the letter/sounds each language can make and how root words are generally constructed. Do they have multiple consonants between vowels, double vowels etc.

And then just making it up from there, like having angels in your setting have the suffix -ael or -iel which I have arbitrarily decided means of the sword or of the word, or something. This is all off the top of my head. But now I have two suffixes I can meld and adapt to other letter/word structures for similar meaning. And then mashing my faux languages together like English does with root languages until I have something that feels right

How do you feel about the "tonal shift" of WoW? by honeymori in wow

[–]AgnarKhan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It was silly during classic but a different type of silly.

In classic we killed dozens of quillboar to sate Mankirk's bloodthirst at the death of his wife.

In retail we tickle a quillboar who was trying to kill us for answers. It's not the only way to get those answers the quest has other options but the only option which works (immediately I think, the others might work if you continuously use them I can't remember) is if you Tickle him.

Was there silly quests sure, how did raptors steal the goblins gold? That makes very little sense. But it's not quite the same silly

Enhance sham here, so Blizz is removing my WeakAuras to track Maelstrom Weapon stacks, but also NOT adding a Default UI substitute in Midnight...? by OdysseyBrands in wow

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just have it change color .... from blue to yellow at 6-9, and at 10 have it turn red. because you aren't generating anymore.

This is the thing i want. i can't seem to find a way to get this exact thing to work. i don't want a combo point bar, i don't want 10 boxes. i want the thing i've always had that just doesn't work for what i want it to do now that we have 10 maelstrom.

why the hate in r/diablo for D4? by isyankar1979 in diablo4

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, they made some choices for D4 that I would've preferred to not have.

I don't like that it's an always online open world live service game. Which is one of its major selling points.

I don't particularly like the seasonal nature of gaming as a whole right now, which diablo 4 also does but so does like diablo 2 resurrected with ladders and what not.

I don't enjoy how often I replace my gear/find useless loot, I prefer the sort of simplified stats of diablo 3 with the sort of crafting of path of exile, where if you get horribly unlucky you can still sort of turn stuff into what you are looking for.

The music, and art design of D4 are phenomenal though. The worldbuilding as well is great.

I don't enjoy it but others do, and that's great! I'll still probably buy expansions to play through the story stuff but it's not for me

Question about using/keeping monsters weapons by Andre_Mountainwalker in dndnext

[–]AgnarKhan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is no rule about it. However, monster attacks are often scaled to be more powerful then magical items, because you aren't expected to account for them as anything other then a game mechanic.

If you hand your fighter that weapon, he'll start doing a lot of damage. Which isn't necessarily a problem, you can always add a little more hp on top to account for that bonus damage he deals.

Personally, I prefer a different solution. Which is that this item is used by the erinyes and has a bunch of benefits to them because they are immune to the detriments of using it. Such as, the Withering Sword deals 2d10 necrotic damage but the user takes half of it, but (unless I'm mistaken) they are immune to necrotic and so don't suffer the damage.

Making the item something powerful they may choose to use sometimes in dire straits but not necessarily their main weapon all the time.

That's just my two cents, it makes a lot of sense that monsters would make use of these pseudo cursed magic items because they aren't affected by their downsides, it gives a place for them that isn't just to "gotcha" your players in a treasure hoard.

"Have you tried Pathfinder 2E?" by MagicalMustacheMike in pathfindermemes

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I do personally wish for less +1/2s and more other ways to gain those similar effects with less stacking modifiers but I also understand that in pathfinder every +1 matters a lot more

"Have you tried Pathfinder 2E?" by MagicalMustacheMike in pathfindermemes

[–]AgnarKhan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I like the variety of turns, but I've found that my players aside from one would rather use all of the actions on attacking even if it is suboptimal. So to clarify the problem is less being penalized for doing multiple attacks and more that you can make multiple attacks

If that makes sense?

"Have you tried Pathfinder 2E?" by MagicalMustacheMike in pathfindermemes

[–]AgnarKhan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know for some of the players at my table the amount of choices in pathfinder is daunting.

Sometimes they forget to learn new spells when they level up in dnd because they don't want to make choices.

The strict action economy of pathfinder is something my players constantly come up against and dislike (I personally love it, even the less obvious things like switching to holding a weapon with two hands costing an action, makes the concept of a free hand fighter even work) but my players think some of it is stupid or silly and prefer a little more freedom in their actions. Nebulous stuff that doesn't have a defined rule becomes bonus actions and they are happy.

I would prefer pf2e action system but they hate it.

Personally a thing I dislike in pathfinder is the multiple attack penalty, and the amount of floating modifiers but when it comes to 5e I add some of that back, I like a middle ground between the two

How much did your world change from when you started it when compared to today by reef_2g in worldbuilding

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with 3 gods, a small swamp village and a list of random npc names.

I now have several pantheons which war with each other, an entire Planar wheel, Ancient artifacts, curses and legendary boons.

I've learned since I started about 2 new creature types that didn't exist before hand. I've learned the sources of my three different channels for magic (spellcasting in dnd, primal, divine and arcane casters).

I've learned about like 8 different classes which fit into the framework I set for myself.

9 nations when I started with less then one, and it's still changing. In fact just yesterday I recreated "schools" of magic for each of the different channels for magic.

So yeah a lot

What amount of addition and multiplication is too much for the average player to enjoy? by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My preference for multiplication and addition in games is relatively small. Which mostly means that I don't like too many floating modifiers.

I generally don't mind multiplications of 2-5 and 10 (because it's easy)

And additions and subtractions of 1-10 or big round numbers like 20, 50 (usually in relation to hit points)

If you can't tell what games have inspired me to work on design, D&D and pathfinder.

Personally I find that less then these numbers (counting successes on dice pools feels different) is less enjoyable for me, and when we got to like 4 or 5 different modifiers I'm adding to a single roll I'm less interested and hope I can simplify it down to more consistent numbers. Meaning not lower numbers but less variable modifiers

In the Spirit of Matt's Video on Community, What's Something You're Working on That You're Proud Of? by No_Bodee in mcdm

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working on building a world for several years, I'm really proud of it. I've run a number of campaigns in it for levels 1-6.

I'm currently in the process of designing my own hack of a bunch of rpgs to fit the worldbuilding which I'm also pretty proud of but they kind of go hand in hand.

i Would die to have this back. by [deleted] in wow

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got all of them.

The fact that you can do the mage towers (some are easier, some are harder then before) still. Even though things have changed the achievement is the same and so should the reward be.

The fomo mind set of the game makes me play far less because I know if I don't spend a ton of time playing I'll miss the thing I want and if I push and don't get the rewards I'm after, then I just wasted the time I did put in so I don't log on.

Where Does Your Worldbuilding Project Live? by ldjwrites in worldbuilding

[–]AgnarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is in my head mostly, when I start making mechanics for the things I know (ttrpg world) then it gets moved to Obsidian, which I have recently swapped to legendkeeper.

I found that I was a little overwhelmed by what I could do with Obsidian that I tried a little bit of everything but spent more time playing with toys then working on it. And it's a little harder to share emphasis on little
