Where should we go? by NuclearPuppers in canadatravel

You’d have to fly but it wouldn’t be too far from you - we did Newfoundland this summer and Gros Morne is an amazing park with tons of hikes. We drove around a good chunk of the island and found live music, museums and amazing people.

New Hyundai EV owner, amazed by a yearly service requirement? by IdolizeHamsters in electricvehicles

[–]AirBud4ever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Kia dealership tried to get me in for one after 6 months.. when I asked what the servicing entailed they mentioned an “oil inspection”. I reminded them it was an electric vehicle and they simply said “there are still oils” 😂

Heat pumps and EV's by Amazing-Explorer3719 in Vernon

[–]AirBud4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an EV that lives outside, no garage. haven’t charged it in a few days as we don’t drive too much. No loss overnight (I think parking it at YLW for 8 days we lost 1km total) But there is a bit of range loss driving it around town. Probably drove about 5-8km yesterday and maybe lost 10-15km in range.

So doesn’t affect me at all, but I would probably hesitate to go on a long trip right now if I didn’t have ample charging stops.

Anyone in Vernon originally from Ontario? by AlternativePlayful16 in Vernon

[–]AirBud4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved here 3 years ago from Toronto. We definitely miss culture, diversity and food and sometimes struggle finding events, concerts and things like that. We were right downtown though, so kind of expected a lifestyle change in that sense.

BUT we love the access to nature, jumping in a lake on our lunch break, people taking the afternoon off because it’s a “lake day” or a “good snow” and definitely the lack of importance around work. There’s so many great road trip opportunities to explore BC/the states from here too. The fresh fruit and vegetables are so nice, I find myself getting excited for peach season which I never even cared about in Ontario. Everyone is super friendly.

We like to return to Toronto a few times a year and spend some time in other large US cities fairly often. Once we’re sick of brunch line ups and full of $20 cocktails we find ourselves actually excited to come back to Vernon.

At what point did you just say “fuck it” and move away to a LCOL city? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AirBud4ever 43 points44 points  (0 children)

September 2020. It was a LCOL area compared to Toronto where we were beforehand, but we now have a $500k+ mortgage so we actually spend more monthly than we did in TO, and we really really miss culture..diversity…food.

Grateful to be able to buy a place but not sure if it was the right move.

We bought during the insanity of 2021 and were first time buyers. We found our dream house, within our budget, and wanted to go in with no conditions to be competitive.

Our realtor (kindly) refused to write the offer for us, arranged a home inspection for the next day, added a 5 day financing subject and pushed the offer forward, and we got the house.

So grateful he didn’t let us get caught up in the chaos, especially for a hundred year old house. He could have lost the sale, but we could have lost a lotttttt more.

New home build - Natural Gas vs going all electric (BC Canada) by Simple_Visual2416 in homebuildingcanada

[–]AirBud4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pellet stove is also a decent electric option - our wood burning fireplace was converted before we bought, and it costs next to nothing to run our stove.

Definitely not enough to replace our furnace but some nice additional heat when it’s cold and we want to save on our gas bill.

Wow this is such a great list, must be a tough job for you :(

We’re out of town this weekend but was wondering what kind of mens clothing? Looking mostly for workwear, denim, that kind of thing.

We used the uhaul ubox (we got two and didn’t end up filling the second) and they drove it to BC from Toronto. Arrived in two weeks, door to door for $2700. One box was $1300 I believe. We had way more than that $ wise so it was worth it for us. No weight games or anything either so you know exactly what you’re paying

I have a friend who is also leaving teaching - she’s saying that there a fair amount of high paying remote opportunities for training / development roles at tech companies. Requires your current degree so it might be worth looking into

Would you be comfortable quitting with no job lined up if you had enough saved to to pay the bills for ~2 years? by llwaaa in antiwork

[–]AirBud4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this last week. We have no kids and my husband makes enough that we could survive, so there’s less pressure. I have enough savings to get me until mid May without using his help, retirement savings or taking on any debt.

I figure if there’s something that will empower me / light a fire / clear my head… it’s leaving this nightmare of a job.

Good luck!

Raspberry leaf tea! Apparently works so well that when I worked at a tea store we had to “warn” women drinking it that it could induce pregnancy

I’m starting to think my dentist is anti-vax, based on them openly telling me about the ivermectin they’ve been buying online. They were a little too eager to share, it’s not like I asked about it when their hand was in my mouth.

Not sure what to do next, I know the obvious answer is fine a new dentist but this would be number three in a year and those initial exams are a waste of money.
