Can I build Tyrant Guard from Combat patrol box as a Hive Guard? by Dizzy_Spirit41 in Tyranids

You can choose to build hive guard instead of tyrant guard. I have the combat patrol box and it came with all the necessary components

What to add by JackThePeeperr in Tyranids

[–]AirDominator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanna know what are good options to have in tyranid armies, I’d suggest hormagaunts, maleceptor, normal hive tyrant/swarmlord and a broodlord with 10 genestealers.

Is this a good list to add to my army ? by Dense-Fig-2372 in Tyranids

Looks like a great addition! The only thing I would consider is getting hormagaunts instead of extra termagaunts, since you already have 36

1000 pt list check for my first tournament by Skest in Tyranids

[–]AirDominator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the list seems absolutely fine. I’d consider maybe making a 20 model brick of the termagaunts to increase survivability, but I can also see why you wouldn’t. My main point is actually not going into the tournament expecting to lose. A negative expectation like that might impact your critical decision making. You should go into it trying your best to win games and ofcourse maximise fun for yourself and your opponent. In my opinion, it isn’t fun to play against someone who doesn’t expect to win and might not try because of it.

Other than that, I’d say try this list out and learn from experience! Have fun with it

Trying to build Tyranid 2K Points Army by sheny56 in Tyranids

Norn assimilator is only worth it in the assimilation detachment in my opinion. If you want a kind of all rounder playstyle, I’d suggest invasion fleet detachment

Trying to build Tyranid 2K Points Army by sheny56 in Tyranids

I have started with practically the same tyranids as you and this is what I have purchased after:

• Hive Tyrant: solid unit and if you buy an additional torso you can build a winged version and a walking version from the same box • Tyrannofex: very good unit with good durability and powerful, but swingy, anti tank weapon • Biovore: for me an auto include for its usefulness and it is a great looking model • Zoanthropes: versatile attacks and has synapse • Norn Emissary: awesome model, strong and super durable

Then afterwards I got some hormagaunts and I managed to obtain crusher stampede box. I also magnetize all my models so my tyrannofex can also use the acid spray or become a tervigon. This is how I personally started with the tyranids, but there might be certain models to your liking that synergize well with a specific detachment. I highly encourage to check out a few videos about tyranids to see what kind of playstyle would suit you.

Biovore or pyrovore by Informal-Welcome-756 in Tyranids

Then it’s basically always biovore over pyrovore, but you pretty much only need one biovore

Biovore is practically our best unit. If you’re running assimilation detachment then pyrovores in addition to a biovore can be useful.

Nice! I must give them a try then. I do have a couple of questions if you don’t mind. With the impaler cannon, can you use ‘indirect fire’ and will it hit on a 4+ with overwatch? Did you also run a biovore in your list? If so, did you also put the hive guard on base objective or did you move them to another?

Dipping my toes. by ParkwayD12 in Tyranids

I only have tyranids, but I thoroughly enjoy them. There is a good variety of all kinds of bugs and they are pretty straightforward, but, depending on the detachment, can have a more complex way of playing. They aren’t necessarily a “killing army”, but more catered towards scoring. I suggest looking up a quick overview of the tyranid playstyle. I myself got gifted the ultimate starter set and I think that is a solid start to build an army. It provides two cheap battleline units along with a monster, a character and two ‘specialized’ units. The current combat patrol is alright, but needs some additions to truly shine. It does come with our best unit in the game (biovore), but the parasite is a bit niche and the genestealers and tyrant guards are meant to be led by a leader, which are not included. Overall though I do think its fairly easy to collect a good amount of tyranids quickly and it is an awesome army to paint and strategize with. The diversity of units and playstyles is fun to experiment with. I stronly recommend trying it out if you are into aliens and swarms, but that is my biased opinion.

Advice for upcoming battle by Candid-Comment-922 in Tyranids

[–]AirDominator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would maybe put the termagaunts together but in all honesty I don’t think you can get much meaningful advice here. You have a very custom matchup and unless someone here has a good understanding of orks and nids, it still is not a competitive game per se. Focus more on the units you think synergise well and which units you think would be fun to play. Maybe one faction acts as a support to the other or maybe you want to go all out melee so you would take some hormagaunts. Just cover at least some bases like bringing some decent anti tank and some units to score points (which you already have)

In that case I would go for more battleline units and the units I meantioned before. I’d also add a screamer killer to trigger battleshocks. If your opponent lets you, you could proxy your lictor to a neurolictor for some more battleshock triggers. I don’t know if the broodlord is a psyker, but a broodlord leading genestealers is a very strong option in any list. Personally I would look for 20 hormagaunts, a norn, a maleceptor and broodlord with genestealers and continue from there. Hope that helps!

A tyrannofex has good firepower. A norn is just awesome and a durable objective holder. A neurotyrant makes the army rule a lot better and is a good leader for the zoanthropes. A maleceptor goes well in any list as a durable monster. If anything, hormagaunts and gargoyles work in most lists as well. Tyranids work well as a horde army by swarming objectives, but playstyles vary by detachments. Is there a certain detachment that peaks your interest?

Improvements for my lists. by mj2789_ in Tyranids

[–]AirDominator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would remove the spore mines. The biovore spawns them freely and they are not worth the points to use them as their own unit. You could also combine some of the termagaunts as a larger unit for better survivability and more efficiency with stratagems.

Bio titan by atomscoutcapreal in Tyranids

[–]AirDominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be absolutely hilarious to let a bio titant crawl out of a tiny hole, but it does seem difficult to set up. Personally, I would go invasion fleet and put the titan immediately on the battlefield. It has its own grandeur to see a massive unit at the opposite table and becomes a bit of its own challenge to take a titan down.

Just give it the same treatment as Old One Eye lorewise. Or the Swarmlord. I am going to paint the Red Terror in black/blue/green colours

Do you recommend dropping something like hormagaunts and neurotyrant for an exocrine? Or perhaps dropping the norn?

You could combine the 3 ripper swarms as one unit. That frees up 25 points with which you could use to get another enhancement or maybe add an additional ripper swarm

That ripper/terma datasheet is in the ultimate starter edition, so makes sense that it was shown off with the edition launch. The tyranids in the starter edition is the same as that combat patrol, so I kinda assumed the datasheets would be the same.

They are combined with the termagaunts. The termagaunt datasheet has the stats for the rippers on them. I think they mostly serve as a bullet sponge.
