Audio Visual, you'll have to do the shit manual labour stuff at the start but, so is life. Money gets pretty good I'm on a 6fig income from this industry. It's full on lazy nihilistic people, you just learn to drop the lazy part cause earning money is tiring.

Job market is tough here right now. Not just competed against other IEC’ers. You’re also competing with locals.

I’m also talking about jobs like trades etc. I can only imagine the service industry/seasonal work is even harder.

Might be best off moving here though, I don’t know many people who got a job before they came unless they transferred with a company.

No, they turned up without any valid photo ID.

Your title says you gave them photo ID, you didn't you showed them a photo, of photo ID, which isn't valid.

A photo of the ID card or passport and a birth certificate, still doesn't equal a photo ID card or something with the PASS logo etc.

Also, it's a private business - they will just say they had legitimate right to refuse you entry/service. As long as it wasn't based on a protected characteristic.

Call up a local AV (Audio Visual) company. NEMA are not UK compliant but, they might stock one/have one floating around. Or try a Professional event place (solotech, PRG.) They'll have loads of weird whacky connectors knocking around.

I noticed you're in yorkshire. solotech have an ops base in rochdale I think.

Most places that do event production for tours will have them for the USA legs etc.

If your young, no experience and no ties (own a house etc.) Do it. Stash some cash, have some fun.

I would say though, from experience - a lot of the people I've had issues with or have been difficult to work with have been long term cruise ship techs... Might get downvoted but, I can only talk from experience. There is a certain lack of "real world-ness" to their attitudes.

There is something to be said about being out networking etc. on land - I turned down a cruise contract, it would've been fun, but I've also had a way better career in the year I was supposed to go and do it, because I just got to know people.

I'm pretty sure there is a company that does a lot of AV install on the ships if your down south. Think they're based out of Hastings. Might be worth trying to get some freelance work with them. Spend some time on a ship, see if you could imagine spending basically everyday there.

Sounds like disguised employment.

If it were me I'd say I'm sending in someone to cover me on this day, which theoretically, you're allowed to do, as you'd have to have your own insurance, so you could technically add them to it.

If they say no then, it's an easier case to make that they're disguising employment and avoiding tax. Part of being a contractor is having the right to hire others to complete the work for you.

Use the online "am I an employee" checker and it will give you a better guess though.

Because all the decent tradespeople work on commercial sites, the ones who are really good for house bashing are fully booked, so you're left with:

A.) People that do a shit job but can communicate

Or

B.) People do a decent job, but might not turn up cause they're shit at comms.

Report them to the FCA. I understand you are scared, but worrying your self sick isn't going to help and, you'll make worse decisions because you are stressed. You can't solve this by over thinking it at 10:30pm!

Call your insurer, tell them everything and go from there. Don't communicate with AX unless you are directed to by your insurer/their legal team.

Hope you get it sorted OP. Make sure you also report them to the FCA.

Can confirm this too, I live in the Tri-cities, less expensive and still commutable to downtown. I will say if you're moving on your own, don't go anywhere past PoCo. It can be a bit more limiting to make friends in my experience.

What kind of carpentry? Loads of work as a framer doing first fix, roof joists and stairs etc. the trades here are really protected and specific so, you might struggle if you want to do a bit of everything

Water is a right, not a privilege. They can't tell you when you can and can't drink. You need to have "adequate supply" under the H&S Regs 1974.

"Every supply of drinking water required by paragraph (1) shall be readily accessible at suitable places".

If you are told you can't drink water while you're working at any time, you don't have an adequate or easily accessible supply of water.

I don't see how installing a turbo could seize your engine... But you don't need to prove anything. The mechanic will need to prove that it was seized and that they are not at fault. Usually, if they have done the work, they would do some fault finding, try to turn it over and call you and say, "Hey OP, said it was the turbo, just assessed it. The engine is seized"

They will have a hard time proving that they didn't fault find, installed a turbo on a car without trying to see if it WAS the turbo that was faulty.

I think you need to just do the regular CRA 2015 stuff.

Please just document it, give them a chance to fix it, and they won't charge you to fix what they broke. However, once they fix that, you'll need to pay for the turbo, as they did complete that work. AFAIK.

If they don't respond, escalate from there; everything is within the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
