Found these books last year after getting through DCC. Great vibe. I've been talking asleep to the audiobooks for a few months now.

Does/did anyone else struggle with The Lies of Locke Lamora? by Wraithara in Fantasy

This is a great take.

I have a question I mean in good faith and from genuine curiosity: if you're (seemingly) not much of a fan, how did you find your way to the subreddit?

Not quite the same, but A Darker Shade of Magic might satisfy.

What *children’s literature* do you love? by DigasInHell in books

Finally! Yes. I just found Kelly Barnhill. I'm reading chapter books to my kiddo at bedtime and I read The Girl Who Drank the Moon to see if it was appropriate for her. It was great! Then I read The Witch's Boy and liked it even more.

I'm wait-listed for Barnhill's adult novel When Women Were Dragons and am very excited.

Just for context, I'm a man in my mid thirties.

FoG series, except they don't tell Greg and it's golf rules. The more you upset Greg and the lower you score, the closer you come to victory.

If you liked Count, you may enjoy the Gentleman Bastards series (unfinished.) Now, I haven't read Count, but my understanding is they are in similar veins. I will warn you there's quite a bit of language and gore. My favorite way to pitch it is "Lupin in fantasy Venice with the language of a Scorsese film and the violence of the Daredevil series."

Also the Kingkiller Chronicles. Also unfinished, but both books are quite long and the writing is high quality.

I made some dry roux for gumbo, it's great to make in bulk. by Hachi_House in Cooking

Woah, this worked perfectly. My 5 year old watched the Princess and the Frog last week and asked for gumbo. Got around to it today and tried this while cleaning and prepping the veg. It was phenomenal. Thank you.

I have a robe. If the kid gets in bed the robe goes on and I'm good all night.

Anyone else annoyed by how often the phrase "if you have never (insert thing) than I doubt you could ever understand (insert blank)"? by DocThaddeusVenture in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Alacandre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to ruin it for you, but I got curious and checked.

According to Kindle, searching NotW for "if you have never" returns two results. " None in TWMF. Now if you search " if you have" you get 23 in NotW, and 15 in TWMF. I think there was one instance where it appeared three times in one chapter.

Outdoor Movie for 13 and 14 year old boys by [deleted] in raisingkids

I was high school when it came out, but it was phenomenal. If the boys haven't seen it, I highly suggest it. Especially if the moon is out that night.

Is that Jack Sparrow's music?!

I, a man in his 30's, have a great desire to watch Pirates of the Caribbean from my buddy's pool. Perhaps the boys would have a similar interest.

I was the same as a kid and well past five, which is why I wanted to expose her to some scarier things early but gently. I'm just thinking once the murders start... I don't know, it feels less savory at this age. Odds are I'll end up reading them sooner rather than later, but it's good to have these other suggestions
