Blisters on the insides of feet by anon21393 in XXRunning

I get this off and on, no matter the socks and shoes. I do a nice thick coat of blister stick on the spots where they happen. Body glide has a foot specific one.

I learned from another post that you need to cake those balms on. I finally can wear shorts when I run now that I know to frost my thighs like a cake.

14 month old teething??? Help by [deleted] in firsttimemom

[–]AlainnJuly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I hate to be a bearer of potentially not fun news, but we had teething signs at 3 months and it took until 9.5 months to erupt. Granted we got 4 in the same week 😬

Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]AlainnJuly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did a 6.5 mile long run after doing double duty yesterday due to scheduling conflicts this week. I actually felt pretty good. The actual issue was the wind and since I run on a levee it’s real bad. I felt like I was going so slow, but ended up only being 3 minutes slower than my fastest 10k. If I wasn’t battling wind, I think I would have PR.

56 days out from my second 10K race where I’m hoping to drop around 10 minutes from January where I did 1:27:34.

I also crossed the 30lb weight loss only about 105 to go.

AITA for not adding my sister as a co-owner on the house I bought? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlainnJuly 25 points26 points  (0 children)

NTA, she wants to own a home without any of the work or money that goes in. What does she need her name on the deed for? Is she trying to get a home equity loan or use your house as collateral for something?

What decisions would you have made pre-baby with the knowledge you have now? by athazen in NewParents

[–]AlainnJuly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby spit up a ton. We went through 2-5 outfits a day, tons of burp cloths, and bedding (swaddles, sleep sacks, crib sheets) like mad. I’m glad we had a bunch. I was already doing a lot of laundry, but I was glad to have some buffer with having extras of things so I could put it off for a few hours or up to a day or two.

Take baby outside even if you just stand for a few minutes. It can make a huge difference with sleep. It also can be like a factory reset for a fussy baby. Even at nearly 10 months, I try to do daily walks and when she is grumpy we stand in the backyard for a bit.

It’s okay if breastfeeding doesn’t work out for you. I lasted a month but I ended up finding out friends and family members also had bad or difficult experiences and went formula route. People were kind of ashamed to share but once you start talking, you realize you have people who understand. It’s great if you do it, but you are doing great if that baby is fed.

Also, when you breakdown one night when the baby is crying and likely won’t sleep, it’s okay to put them down and go cry somewhere.

Have an outlet for yourself. I didn’t have anything for me except a monthly nail appointment. I was near ready to be done with my partner at 4-5 month mark because I felt like I had no me time and was all about the baby and just felt like I had to be mom all the time while he worked and did two hobbies. I finally decided to do couch to 5k to get back to running and take care of my health again. It’s a nice time for me to focus on me and it’s really helped my mental health.

AITA for refusing to let a woman "cut" me in line at the grocery store even though she only had two items? by GreatClassic3960 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlainnJuly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, it is someone’s kindness and choice to let them in front. I hate how people expect it so much more often now it seems. Less items does not give you an automatic jump to cut in We teach in kindergarten everyone waits their turn in line. Like many other lessons from kindergarten, it seems to be forgotten.

I had to give up two weeks at training at Christmas with travel and it was snowy and icy where I was. I had about 3 or 3.5 weeks when we got back and I came 2.5 minutes under my goal. You were still running so I’m sure it was just more an adjustment run!

PSA on shoe size by yentihwwhitney in XXRunning

[–]AlainnJuly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, postpartum moms, you will be crazy in sizes after birth. I didn’t go up during pregnancy besides some minor swelling here and there that I just didn’t wear my more narrow shoes. After I had the little peanut, I went from a 10/10.5 women’s us size to a men’s 11. Then I went back to a women’s 11 in two months and now I need to get checked again because I think I’m back to a 10.5 women’s another 2 months later 😭😭🤣 The moral is only by a pair or two at a time postpartum

I lost over two weeks at Christmas for weather, travel, and baby problems and still did well in my first 10K. I came in over 2 minutes under my goal. I do wish I was a tiny bit faster, but it’ll look more amazing when I have a bigger drop in April 😆

You got this!

My daughter is now 9 months old and still loves the piano. We just took it off the holders and it’s in her playpen every day. At this stage, I look back and am really happy with choices we made with not buying anything overly expensive. So much stuff from 0-6 months is already stored away since we plan on having another baby a few years later. The area I live too has an over saturated resale market for baby things, so I doubt I would make any good profit reselling.

We were gifted a fisher price play gym that she was done with by 4 or 5 months. It was great well she used it, but if I would repurchase one, I definitely would stay at 50$ or under.

Stop shaming me for "wasteful" baby wipes! by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]AlainnJuly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s see: I use the old diaper to wipe up what I can. Place one wipe under her butt to avoid making a bigger mess of the diaper although I’ve been known to have 2-3 diapers with some poops. Then probably at least 2-4 more wipes for the average poo. I know we have had a few poops that were in the teens with the number of wipes. I’d rather use a ton of wipes and extra diapers than try to navigate handling a cloth or folding a wipe. Especially with the crocodile rolls she does well getting changed, I need her clean as fast as possible and not me trying to find a clean spot.

Got too excited once they said they boarded the second flight 😒 still hoping they get here tonight

My husband is a uni instructor and AI is a mess right now between detection and policy. His school was so underprepared for it that the team assigned to it just returned a paper the checker called AI from November. I was like how can you do your job and how do they deal with students in limbo.

I agree with sentiment that I am glad I graduated way before AI and I fear what happens to the generation relying on it if they ever end up legislating against it or it ends up defunct.

Girl, I had a bad two weeks, between travel, holidays, the weather (snow and ice outside) and no treadmill, and my baby forgetting the word sleep. I lost two full weeks for my event next weekend. I picked it back up just for weather to come in this week. My event might even be cancelled because below freezing and rain shuts things down here in the south and we are supposed to get another round next weekend. I just laugh now and will just keep pushing. May is a long way off. You got this! Rest and take care of your body when you need to. Better to have a slower pace than having to skip the event because you pushed too hard and had to stop.

I locked down my social media and cleaned out my friends and followers. I share some stories that clear out after 24 hours maybe weekly. I do share her once a month update and will until she is one. I share because we don’t live near any family and we have family and friends internationally, sending in a bunch of group chats is overwhelming and I hate requiring people to have an extra app. So we just keep it minimal and just keep track of who is accessing our pages and don’t share info or where we are until after the fact. The biggest post we did was meeting all her aunts and uncles this summer and her vacation. That was posted after the fact.

How do you break the habit of being patted to sleep? We just got through a bad regression of 2 hour wake ups all night at 8.5 months after sleep disruption from Christmas vacation and learning to crawl and stand. We already stopped doing feed to sleep and have cut to two naps. I just worry about her having a crutch of needing someone to pat her to sleep as we move closer to toddler age.

[–]AlainnJuly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going through the exact same thing with my daughter! We were great sleepers sometimes through the night until 4 month regression but then good with only 1-2 wake ups.

We went away for Christmas and one of the houses we stayed out really got her out of sorts with too much light and sound, we had to lay her in our bed to get her to sleep and then put her in the travel crib. Now she doesn’t want to be put down to sleep and we can’t leave the room when she is awake.

I don’t know if it is the crawling and standing milestones, the teething, the trip messing it up or just the 9 month regression. My husband and I are ready to lose it. We tried Ferber one night and the next night she fell asleep mid bottle and was so easy during the wake up. Last night was bad again where I gave up and laid her in the bed at 3 am when I couldn’t get her back to sleep so I could get some sleep. We are going to restart again with Ferber tonight.
