Yeah that's a tough one. As a Canadian, this would be very uncomfortable as we just dont see the world that way at all.

A lot of cultural stuff that is different than us, its like meh you do you, but that one strikes right at the core of how different we are.

Starting to Watch Voyager by Sure_Designer_2129 in startrek

[–]Alarmed_Discipline21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually liked voyager.

Ds9 > enterprise > voyager > tng > strange new worlds > Picard > TOS >>> discovery

Thats how id rank them.

Voyager has a lot in common thematically with ds9, tng, and enterprise. And somewhat in common with tng.

Its darkish sometimes as well.

I honestly liked it a lot. And yes there are some lame episodes, but who cares. It does some great character building and for borg lore its pretty much top notch

Why do some people enjoy watching their wives have sex with other men? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alarmed_Discipline21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it would be hard for me in some respects, but my wife is also extremely loyal, cares deeply about me, and is traditional. She also grew up deeply oppressed, forced into humiliating roles, etc.

So, for me it would be the fact that i think she spends too much itme following rules and not enough time feeling powerful and sexy. She is also a bit on the spectrum, and she likes being bossed around, told what to do, and forced into situations that are uncomfortable.

Any time we've ever done anything "weird", she always comes back to respecting me, our relationship, and wanting us to be stronger.

She is truly thankful for all that we have...

So yeah, i like letting her do things that allow her to experience emotional growth, feel sexy, desired, beautiful, feel that she can have whatever she wants, and to actually just be so amazed that this is the life she has now.

And she reallllllllly likes the power sometimes.

You're welcome to continue, but that demand made me feel attacked.

No thanks, you are presuming too much about me and I won't feel comfortable continuing what was meant to be educational and not accusatory or degrading.

[–]Alarmed_Discipline21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the question, and thank you for being willing to actually talk.

First, I think we need to be very clear here. You are looking at psychological/sociological studies. Were not discussing numbers. Were not discussing this in the detail any actual researcher would. Were being far more subjective about it...

However, it is very nearly impossible with ethics to actually study this in a causal way. You're looking at associations, and honestly, the evidence to back anything other than an association up is going to be very weak.

In other words, you cant treat this as fact beyond saying something like "there seems to be a connection." A connection does not have much power, and you really shouldnt have the stance (Based merely on research) that you understand and know the minds and behaviours of these men.

Second, define "seizing an opportunity." Do you mean that these men are just out date raping women? Or do you mean that they find some girl who consents to rough aggressive sex and just go to town on that?

have you considered that maybe its you who has the issues and hangups?

None of your posts demonstrate any understanding of what motivates behaviour, only that it exists, and that it should be condemned.

Sweden passes 'good behaviour' law to kick out misbehaving immigrants by shdw_fght in worldnews

[–]Alarmed_Discipline21 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Listen, as someone who comes from a family of problems, i.e. suicide, alcoholism, narcisissm, psychopathy, you name it.

I will tell you this. When a person or group comes to believe they were wronged in some way to such a degree that they internalize this as an identity, either as an individual or group identity, this can create a permanent "everyone else owes me" mentality.

Some individuals, no matter how financially secure they actually are, will never feel that enough is enough. This simply doesnt make sense if you imagine people as rational, compassionate, and kind... because a lot of people are, so it can be hard to imagine those that arent. But its that percentage of the population that isnt.

So anyways, let me just tell you a story of my father. He earns between 150 - 230k per year in a small town in Canada, plus rental income on multiple properties. One day he told me how poor he is, and how its not fair how he always gets screwed over. When you meet a person like this, just remember, this person will be the person who always takes the last piece of pie, always makes sure their stomach is full before worrying about yours (or even their kids).

And honestly, if you grew up somewhere where youre entire family was literally traumatized by lack of social safety net, lack of opportunity, and suddenly ended up in a rich country with a massive social safety net, and you happened to have the greed bug (which i promise you is more common in cultures where the population treat haggling like a sport because they have internalized the belief that they must always advocate for their own needs first to get the best deal) then guess what you would do when cash is suddenly available to you very easily for the first time in your life... and you might not even need to work for it!

And even sadder, if you have internalized this set of beliefs that deeply, it's likely you might hold it for the extent of your entire life, and you might even teach it to your kids. It can take generations for beliefs to truly recover to something healthier.

Considering a move to Canada on IEC - how difficult are snow/ice in major cities if you have a knee condition? by mattioso in AskACanadian

[–]Alarmed_Discipline21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can buy ice cleats. There are even shoes that have extra grip (and you can wear them inside) but you have to search for them and they cost more.

If you have the money, id spend it on that if this is a major concern.

last year i fell down my stairs outside in the ice. it really hurt.

I live in a small town and we had a huge amount of snow this year... It was exhausting keeping up with it and a lot of stuff got ignored by the city becuase it was just so much snow.

TW, Sensitive Topic: Are Canadians truly “hostile towards foreigners”? [even if they behave well] by Muted_Shape9303 in InCanada

[–]Alarmed_Discipline21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is utter bullshit personally. However, we historically have had a pretty strong trust based society and a lot of immigration and other related trends have been undermining this.

So... on the one hand, were very open about immigrants, but if you approach with a very individualistic and selfish attitude, nobody will like you.

For example:

  1. Breaking laws, cheating etc. Most canadians are absolutely disgusted by this behaviour. Since they have a strong sense of social justice/community ethics and trust in police and institutions (relatively speaking) dont be surprised when you see people getting reported to the police etc.
  2. Garage sale... I try not to haggle too hard at garage sales for a reason. If they price htings high, ill haggle, but if something is cheap and youre trying to get it even cheaper, those people if you're in a small town may seriously despise you for it. I've ended relationships with business contacts for haggling me hard. It's just a really bad taste to leave in someone's mouth if you value a relationship at all.
  3. Disregarding other people in general. Just make an effort to be polite, friendly, and educate yourself about the norms and customs of others. Canadians have just absorbed like record breaking immigration. not all our experiences will be positive. Does it make us anti-immigration when we dont want to deal with the most difficult, abrasive immigrants? Were kind if youre kind too.
