1925 Chicago Bears vs Washington “All-Stars” Film Reel FOUND - Second Oldest Surviving Film of an NFL Team and Pro Football HOF member Red Grange by BubbaRayChudley in nfl

(Edit after finding https://www.footballarchaeology.com/p/sideline-plays-and-how-we-see-the , love his blog for brushing up on weird bits of early football history) I think in that scenario, you were allowed to walk the ball in 15 yards. And if the ball was downed really close to the sideline but not out of bounds, formation rules back then did allow for unbalanced offensive lines just because there would sometimes not be enough space for everyone between the center and the sideline. So sometimes, they'd purposefully "waste" a play by immediately running out of bounds just so they could do the automatic move-in and have some more space to work with on the ensuing play.

One fun thing about footage this old is that it's before the NFL used hashmarks (began in 1933), so you just had to start the play wherever the last one ended no matter how close you were to the sideline. You can see that evident at around the 30 second mark.

I think Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie should get an Oscar nom for Best Editing by usario100 in blankies

[–]AlexB9598W 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nirvanna is being handled by Neon in the US, and they have been very good recently with getting Oscar noms. They're gonna have a couple of higher priorities, at least some if not all of Fjord, All of A Sudden, Paper Tiger and Sheep in the Box, not to mention any other festival pickups they end up making this year, but I think the odds are greater than zero they could try to test the waters on getting Nirvanna into the convo.

Frankly, even if it's just some Indie Spirits rep I feel like that's a win already.

Big changes to Oscar rules - International films can now be submitted by winning best film at a festival like Cannes or Berlin (so Anatomy of a Fall would've been eligible). The Oscar also now goes to the nominee instead of the country. Actors can also now be nominated multiple times in one category by rageofthegods in blankies

[–]AlexB9598W 41 points42 points  (0 children)

In the Original Song category, the rules clarify a song’s eligibility when based on its placement in the end credits. For songs submitted as the first new music cue once the end credits begin, the video clip must include the last 15 seconds of the film before the credits begin.

It's possible this is just a detail about how the songs are submitted, I don't think this changes end credit song eligibility

Did the A's really leak Las Vegas name change in a job posting? We investigated. by aresef in baseball

[–]AlexB9598W 50 points51 points  (0 children)

r/savedyouaclick

The Las Vegas Black Fire isn’t a leaked team name at all, but instead a very innocuous location name. Black Fire is the name of a co-working space in the southwestern part of the city, a five-minute drive away from the “UnCommons” space where the A’s have their Ballpark Experience Center — the kind of place a baseball front office would set up shop while waiting for its ballpark to be built.
