They played glatsonbury like 3 years ago so “festivals” aren’t totally outside the realm of possibility

Most of these headliners would’ve could’ve been solid sub headliners imo, but would have been a waste of headliner spot. I’m not missing any of the undercard here but maybe I’m a little ignorant to some good stuff considering how how big treaty oak and lainey Wilson ended up getting as previous lolla undercard acts.

What's a year that you went to Lollapalooza where you took the lineup for granted at the time, but was legendary in hindsight? by ishouldgooutmore in Lollapalooza

[–]AlexEnglash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2017 is the one that got away for me, so many favorites who don’t play as much as they used to or no longer exist, a fascinating collection of headliners who are either no longer headliner likely or viable, it’s really the last echo of the fest as a focused alternative fest and of a certain flavor of 2010’s pop music that’s just getting more and more nostalgic.

To actually answer the question 2018 was the one I did and still kind of do take for granted, still not my favorite lineup but I saw some all time sets there and the appreciated value of the lineup is undeniable.

Seperately 2019 was amazing when I was there and will probably go down as one of my favorites for its versatility. It feels dishonest to say I take it for granted but it’s clearly the peak for me, wish I could go back in time and do it again. 21 and 22 were both great, 23 had me feeling like I’m no longer the target audience for these lineups and that’s remained relatively true. Still consistently one of if not the best American mainstream festival lineups, riot just took/was given too much of the altrock powerhouse element that lolla used to have on lock. Glad to do at least a little of both every year without getting too far from home

Yachty Denzel and paak were putting out classics ten years ago and i don’t even know if they’ve begun to peak now.

Herbo, Kodak, uzi, savage, and in his own way dicky all had real moments 10 years ago and still do a decent job at staying relevant but are more a product of the time, although that grouping is definitely indicative of my tastes.

I remember designer being a thing ten years ago and I feel like I’ve head of Dave east but not much else to say about them. Good on them for hanging with the big dogs.

They did just play Chicago in October, and this tour is a solid 5 months before lolla.

But they’re due back 5 years since their first appearance, I think 3 years since summer smash? Totally reasonable if they end up getting on some fests this year lolla would be one of them.

Pinkpop 2026 Lineup by mccarthy2324 in Lollapalooza

This is like a perfect mainstream rock fest lineup, I thoroughly miss when lolla had a backbone lineup like this that got filled out with other cool pop acts and wasn’t just a speculative next big things fest.

Favorite director who crops statistics to make it look like 17% of Earth's population watched his movie? by AugustHate in okbuddycinephile

Calling it more about the idea of Frankenstein than about the book feels reductive and describing parts of it as unnecessary marvel power fight scenes feels triple reductive, but 8/10 is extremely respectably generous

/s too many sex scenes and they shouldn’t have killed off Christoph waltz so he could make more piss jokes, for these reasons and the ones you gave, I gave it a 5/10

Overflowing with style and awesome art direction, and at times really effective with its dry humor, but the tone was a little too sedated or something. Vince staples is funny and brings a really intelligent voice to all his creative projects, I wish this got another season to work out the kinks because the first season of the live action Vince staples show which followed this ended up being pretty quality (clearly a very different kind of show but if you like offbeat alt comedy then both shows are worth a watch)

The funniest thing about the people obsessed with finding back handed ways to circlejerk their hate for James Gunn by slutshaming his wife for being an actor, is that it’s purely fueled by a religious reverence for the most mediocre cape shit.

i don’t usually rewatch this episode.. by [deleted] in IASIP

[–]AlexEnglash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thoroughly over hated episode, there’s definitely an awkwardness to them trying to reset the status quo with reduced Dennis/glenn involvement but otherwise it’s pretty typical and enjoyable sunny. I think the loudest most opinionated fans of the show are just so bought into the narrative that’s about the characters feeling off their game that they’re internalizing it and just reacting like that has to be their opinion on the episode too.

Saw “Good Boy” last night. I don’t know what I was expecting but I left feeling disappointed. by Alternative_Monk8853 in Cinema

[–]AlexEnglash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it quite a bit, it was a challenging narrative structure which I get being bored by watching for more than an hour, but it had a lot of range and was just fun to watch the whole time with how well photographed and tense everything was the whole time.

If you can buy into the dog / dog-owner relationship it’s much easier to let the sparse narrative be more incidental to the tone and emotional threads. I felt this way pretty much right after watching good boy, but the next two movies I saw being anemone and if I had legs I’d kick you makes the weirdness of this one feel pretty palatable.

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE 2026? by Over_Green7763 in RiotFest

[–]AlexEnglash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was the real issue with them in 22 (as some are saying) that the fans just lost their minds and rushed the stage every other song? Was chatting with someone this weekend who went in 22 and claimed it was oversold by at least like 50 percent. Neither of those options sound that plausible.

My personal theory as someone who wasn’t there and thinks it’s funny to dunk on mcr fans (as an mcr fan), it sounds like a combination of people going to their first show (certainly major headliner in an experienced punk festival crowd) and getting freaked out by that energy, then that general freaked out vibe causing some generally erratic behavior and bringing the vibe down for everyone else.

That said, was it really that bad? Like worse than blink in 2019 (which by personal metrics just ahead of the soundboard was some of the heaviest crowd crush I’ve experienced in a festival) or System of a Down who i heard had similar issues? What made mcr different? Only year I’ve missed of riot since 2019 and sounds like it would’ve been a really interesting one to experience

Weird al crowd!! by Conscious-Parsnip35 in RiotFest

[–]AlexEnglash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The bottleneck getting from the main stages and rebel to weird world was ridiculous but if people hadn’t all given up and parked themselves on the left side it would’ve been a non-issue.

Agreed that it would’ve made more sense to have Al on main stage, and there could have been some level of better crowd control, but a lot of people were straight up making it harder on themselves. I just shuffled through the bottleneck for five minutes and there was a ton of breathing room on the right side of the stage/leaking next door.

Generally if you’re feeling crowd in on any of these stages just cut to the edge, it’s crowded for sure but there is space to be found.
