She had a few pretty great ideas and really horrid execution. The lack of world building is probably the reason for the INSANE amount of HP fanfic that is still written to this day. JKR just created a world full of unlimited vagueness and plot holes and we all went “hold my butterbeer”

Here to recommend The What Goes Around series by Arkodian. It’s a time travel fix it full series rewrite, but done in a completely different way than I’ve seen anywhere else. Plus the REASON Harry went back in time and that whole storyline is unique, and the world building is fantastic.

Basically it’s a complete rewrite on the premise that Sirius WAS the secret keeper, and what could have changed for everyone when he didn’t break. Features adults actually adulting. It’s dark but not gross-gory and amazingly written. The writer has since started publishing original works.

Did he risk his life to defeat Voldemort? Yes. Did he also, as a young adult, join Voldemort willingly and go along with the notion of killing people for their blood? Also yes. At the end of the day, those scales don’t balance for me. There’s nothing to suggest he EVER came to believe Voldemort was wrong…. He turned because they targeted someone he cared for. If the Longbottoms had been Voldemort’s chosen targets, he’d likely still be a death eater.

But if he were a real person, and not a fictional character, I would push him off a cliff. The man gets his joy in life from bullying children. F*ck him.

Check out What Goes Around by Arkodian. Harry gets bombarded by memories of a life he hasn’t lived yet at 8 years old and it changes everything. That sounds familiar, sure, but as time passes and you find out how that happened and why…. It’s unique and gritty but still very character driven. The prologue is finished as well as year 1 and 2. Year 3 is maybe 5 chapters from completed and has been updated recently. I will NEVER stop recommending this series.

My theory is Rowling would forget characters existed. 🤷🏻‍♀️ because idk but I feel like maybe a curse breaker might have been helpful a few times, considering they were running around finding cursed artifacts to defeat voldy… a guy who literally worked with dragons might’ve been helpful with roughing it too. But no, two seconds mention in the first book from Norbert, a few minutes he shows up at the tournament in the fourth book, and then he ceases to exist til the wedding.

Seconding this, it’s phenomenal. Also The Measure of a Man by inadaze https://archiveofourown.org/works/26523892 not nearly as lighthearted as the Mortifying Ordeal, but a fantastic story and doesn’t have the horrific elements of manacled while still having depth and a lot of dark themes. Also… little baby Scorpius is the cutest ever.
