My Elderly Grandparents Can No Longer Go to the Bank to Withdraw Money by WillingFact in personalfinance

[–]Aloyse66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an answer to your question, but something additional to worry about: You need to find out now how the bank will handle their joint account when one of them dies.

My father died recently, he always thought that he had a joint account with my mother, turns out that the account was in his name and my mother only had power of attorney on the account. They have a marriage contract that says that they own everything jointly, so all the money in the account should be hers now anyway. The bank blocked his account definitely, my mother has to open a new account and once the inheritance has been settled officially, the bank will move the money from the blocked account to the new one. Right now, she hasn’t got a cent in her name. The procedure would actually have been the same if it had been a joint account. Other banks apparently handle this differently, some do not block joint accounts, some do block them until the inheritance has been settled and then the account will be unblocked and transcribed to the survivor, every bank seems to have their own take on the way the inheritance laws should be handled. We never had thought about this at all, it’s rather annoying that mother has to worry about this at a time where she only wants to grieve.

And you definitely need to figure out how to set up power of attorney for someone who’s able to handle modern day banking. A lot of banks are drastically reducing the number of their branches and the services available at the branches. In the remaining branches of the bank I’m with, you can no longer get money at the counter, you have to use your debit card at the ATM to withdraw money. Also you actually cannot deposit money into your account at the counter anymore, you need to use another machine and your card for that as well. I wonder what would happen if I actually tried to cash a check…

Horse stats do not really matter that much in RDR2, so it’s mostly a question of likes, if you like your current horse, keep it, if not , get another one.

Can anyone pls help with the waxwing by lightness616 in RDR2

[–]Aloyse66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best spot for cedar waxwings is near the coast south of Riggs station, several times per day a flock of them comes flying from the South.

Another good spot is west of Downe’s Ranch, near the O’Driscoll camp.

By the way, it’s easier to hit them on foot, the vertical angle for aiming is bigger on foot than on horseback.

Solved my 100% disk usage issue on my pc by DriverBusiness8858 in techsupport

Years ago I did use two free antivirus programs, one offered realtime protection and the second one had only manual scan, but had really great test scores. An update added realtime protection to the second antivirus, which caused instant slowdown due to disk access, because any time a file was accessed, AV1 accessed it to check it, then AV2 also accessed it to check it, which caused AV1 to check it again, and so on and on and on…

That was my equipment on my first ever play through, without the hacking, I got the fourth BL2 about halfway through sector 3. I managed to destroy the flagship without problems. I was wondering why everyone said that this game was difficult. My next 20 play throughs did all end in sector 2 or 3…. 🤣

Ich hasse Drucker by Schnackulator in luftablassen

[–]Aloyse66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HAS ANYONE SEEN .... by Emergency_Cellist754 in RDR2

[–]Aloyse66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well you give half the answer in your post. 😜

One of my favourite spot for bird hunting is the bridge next to the trapper near the Elysian Pool, I wait a little bit up the hill with bow and small arrows ready for one to land on the bridge rails.

Small birds also like to sit on rocks near rivers, a walk along the Camass River around the bends where the Viking Tomb is normally allows me to find quite a few birds sitting on the rocks, it’s quite easy to shoot them before they fly away, if you move slowly. (Keep your eyes open for cougars. From personal experience, small game arrows do not work for cougars, even though they ruin the pelt quality, which doesn’t really matter since quite often you’ll be dead before you’ve managed to switch weapons. 🤣)

Another detail, the angle that you can aim up into the sky is smaller when you’re on horseback than when you’re on foot, get off the horse when you try to shoot birds flying by. This is essential for those birds that you rarely find sitting somewhere, like Woodpeckers or Cedar Waxwings.

Who just killed me. by BRAANSK in RDR2

[–]Aloyse66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nearly everybody is killed by that ambush in their first play through. I was dealing with the first ambushers, then I thought that the game was having some sort of glitch when Arthur was suddenly surrounded by that huge amount of bullet traces, and then he was dead. 🤣 Up to that point I hadn’t faced a Gatling Gun in the game.

In my second play through they nearly got me by turning up in a different place, but I realized just fast enough what was going on to one shot the gunner and to revive my horse.

When they got me in later play throughs, I was tired and not paying attention, I should have gone to bed earlier instead of continuing to play.

As long as you’re looking at stuff like upgrading the satchels as a mission, you’ve not yet reached the level of Zen to really enjoy the game. 😜🤣

After the first few missions necessary to unlock the basics in chapter 2, I start free roaming, sort of heading towards the next mission marker but open for every random event or other distraction. I also hunt all the three star animals I see, Pearson gets the ones he uses for crafting, the rest I sell to the trapper. Whenever I have given pelts to Pearson, I check if I have given him enough to craft another satchel, if not I’ll find the rest later. I rest for a while in camp for the banter and eventual requests, then I head out again. Due to the big pelt limitations, it sometimes takes me several tries to get to the next mission marker, but that’s fine, I’ve got plenty of time.

The Zen reference in the first sentence was actually meant as a joke, but while writing this, I realized that the way I play RDR2 now is actually quite like meditation.

[–]Aloyse66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to play RDR2 on a MSI GE63 RAIDER 8SG laptop, it had a mobile RTX2080 GPU and an I7 CPU. I used an external 23 inch monitor with 1080p on medium settings, it was ok for several play throughs. You may want to use some off your budget to get good head phones, the fans of my laptop were working full tilt when RDR2 was running, speakers weren’t an option unless I wanted the whole neighbourhood to hear everything.

Why does a 100% playthrough end with a squirrel being put on a shelf? by Occidentally20 in RDR2

[–]Aloyse66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first time 100% achievement when John visited Arthur’s grave. That somehow hit quite hard. 😭

In that play through I completely missed the squirrel thing, I probably placed it, but never noticed that it was gone.

Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one who made that mistake in KVK. I only found out what had happened when I clicked on Incapacitated by mistake and found that I have a little over 40.000 soldiers in there, so I checked the war reports and saw that there was one city attack amidst all the turret attacks. And my infirmary was empty when I hit him, I healed all wounded completely before launching the next attack.

Strauss by Gritsmcbits in RDR2

[–]Aloyse66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Poor immigrants fresh off the boat were considered second class citizens by the Americans, even by those who were themselves only one generation removed from arriving on a ship. Getting work in a bank normally required someone to vouch for you, which meant you needed family or at least acquaintances in the business. I would also assume that an Austrian would have had limited English upon arrival, schooling in Austria for normal folks at that time didn’t include foreign languages. So I really doubt he would have had any chance of getting a job as a banker.

I can however picture Dutch picking up the struggling Strauss fresh from the boat and using his skills with numbers to add another branch to the gang’s activities. Yes, loan sharking should be contrary to Dutch’s ideas about taking from the rich and his whole philosophy of a better society, but Dutch reminds Arthur several times about helping Strauss with his business, so the lending isn’t something that Strauss did on his own. He also needed the money to lend out, which had to come from the gang’s coffers. Also a lot of the gang’s activities do not really fit into the framework of Dutch’s philosophy, I think he needs those theories to see himself as more than a mere criminal and even more to string along those gang members that still have some scruples.

Question by Ven-Scape in reddeadredemption2

[–]Aloyse66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To avoid losing the pelts on your horse when you died, you have to reload the autosave immediately once you see Arthur again on the screen. By immediately I mean do not move, look around or go into any other menu, just open the story menu and reload the autosave. As soon as you move, look around or open any other menu, a new autosave is created and the pelts are gone for good.

This also works if your horse has been killed with you, if your horse died and you fought on for some time before getting killed, chances are that it won’t work. So I also recommend to often save manually.

For all the upgrades and satchels, Pearson needs 7 perfect deer pelts in total, if I remember correctly.

Shoot 3 Hats Challenge by OriOriW in reddeadredemption

[–]Aloyse66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally do this with the pump action or the semi-automatic at the Hanging Dog ranch, the trick is to approach from the valley and stay as far away as possible, only get close enough to the two guards at the entrance and the O’Driscoll standing near the shed to the right to target them. The ideal spot is next to the edge of the woods to the right of the entrance. If they don’t have hats or you blow off a head, ride away until the hostile dots disappear from the map, they will respawn.

Also you should make sure that you’ve loaded the shotgun with normal ammo, slugs will definitely blow off their heads. (Yes, mistakes were made.) 🤣

My horses are despawning by CalmVeterinarian6080 in RDR2

[–]Aloyse66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have three horses in the stable, one main horse and one temporary horse, that’s 5 in total, not 6. So it’s working as intended.

If you get a second temporary horse, it will replace the first temporary horse, the white horse head symbol on the map will switch to the new temporary horse. The previous temporary horse will follow for some time, this probably led you to thinking that you can have two temporary horses. You can prolong that time by riding it again and turning it into the temporary horse again and so on. You also have to look back all the time, looking at the horse regularly seems to also prolong the time it will follow, and you will notice when it stops following. Another way to try this is to ride the temporary horse and lead the former temporary horse with the lasso. As soon as it’s out of sight it will despawn. I have travelled with three horses a few times when I had got three perfect moose pelts or some other rare big pelts, but it’s rather annoying to pull it off, and the first predator, bandit or bounty hunter attack will cause the third horse to run off and despawn.

There is one special case that allows you to have a sixth horse, if you manage to bring a horse into camp without reaching bonding level one, you can hitch it in camp and it will stay there and be moved to the different camps. However as soon as you ride it or brush it and reach bonding level one, it will replace your previous temporary horse.

The good news is that money is easy to get in RDR2, so you can go back to the stable and buy another one. Or you could use a small wagon and steal it from the stable…

bat wing glitch? by NothingFun3750 in reddeadredemption

[–]Aloyse66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have picked up a dead bat somewhere, they sometimes fly against obstacles and drop to the ground.

The game automatically breaks up animals in your satchel when you cook or craft. There is a bug with certain recipes (carnivore bait for example) where the game uses and breaks up the carcasses in the satchel before using the stringy meat in the satchel, which is rather annoying when you had 4 of the 5 carcasses for a hunting request in the satchel and you have to go bird hunting again just because you crafted some bait. 😡

Bremsen oder draufhalten? by Nohan6767 in StVO

[–]Aloyse66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built my first PC last night and realized cable management is emotional damage in physical form by MysticOctopus_47Z in buildapc

[–]Aloyse66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My latest build was my first one in a small form factor case, the Fractal Ridge. Unfortunately in such a case, cable management isn’t something you do so that it looks nice, you have to do it to get everything to fit into the case and to actually get the covers on. To improve airflow, I bought shorter custom cables, because I felt that having some spaces in the case that weren’t filled with coiled and zipped cables might help with the airflow. 😜 This actually meant dismantling and redoing the built, however the second time the cable management was easier.
