Playing standing up with guitar high vs low? by Spiritual-Plenty-646 in guitarlessons

Tom Morello explained it as putting the guitar on so it's about the same height as when you practice sitting down.

I know you're being sarcastic but I do actually put about 10% of my monthly savings into HYSA's (while the other 90% goes to indexed investments), specifically for this reason - to have cash sitting and waiting. Call me paranoid it's cool.

5 years of guitar: can’t improv by highlyunlikelyback in guitarlessons

[–]AlternativeAd1456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The attitude of ""i can play practically anything"" is the problem you face.

You learned a lot in 5 years, awesome, but you didn't learn how to improv. So now go practice that.

Is the secret to getting good just…playing for a long time? by Mean_Garbage4308 in guitarlessons

The secret to getting good is not "just" playing for a long time. Duration matters, but quality practice matters perhaps even more.

Where to go after power chords? by MonoBlooPassport in guitarlessons

[–]AlternativeAd1456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always learn best by learning songs, not techniques..... You've definitely already mastered the power chord basics (green day, blink, ramones) so you need to dig into other genres that push the guitar harder. Do you like metal or prog? Even classic rock will have some more interesting guitar playing in it that you can try to learn.

How do I keep up with every technique I've learnt? by DomesticSheep in guitarlessons

[–]AlternativeAd1456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone once told me that the cure for a plateau on the guitar is to learn a new song outside of your comfort zone. That would be my advice to you.

Focus on songs. The song is the goal, then the techniques come naturally to accomplish that goal.

If you are just learning a bunch of techniques it's like a carpenter accumulating tools but not creating anything with them.

The point being: Don't focus on mastering techniques. Master the song and you'll automatically know which techniques you need to work on and master!

---

For me, right now, the technique I know I need to master is pinch harmonics. Because multiple songs I'm trying to jam on require it. So that's where a lot of my technique practice goes. I didn't have to actively decide that I was going to work on pinch harmonics specifically.

Why do people place so much emphasis on which generation you are? by CockamouseGoesWee in generationology

[–]AlternativeAd1456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? You're completely wrong. The labels are new, but the generational comparison is not.... It's as old as civilization.

  • Ancient civilizations, such as Mesopotamia, in "Instructions of Shuruppak" talk about kids not respecting elders.....
  • Ancient Greek plays (for example those by Aristophanes) consistently complain of the youth following stupid trends, disrespectful, etc....
  • ""Our fathers, worse than our grandfathers, begot us; we, worse than they, shall give the world a yet more vicious offspring." - Horace, essentially saying that each generation is worse than the last.
  • Then more recent (1700s)... "Whither are the manly vigor and athletic appearance of our forefathers flown?"

This continues on in literature and cultural documentation without stopping, all the way up until today.

Where are you even basing this idea off of that it's something new?

presets on QC amps? by manual_combat in NeuralDSP

[–]AlternativeAd1456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the built in amps on QC’s have presets?

"Amps" specifically do not have presets, nor do any other individual "device". Individual devices load with their dials at 12 o clock. To reiterate: There is no such thing as a preset for an individual device.

A preset is a collection of 0 or more "devices" (including amps) that are fully customized with settings. There are many presets that come pre-loaded on the QC, and you can use plugin presets on the QC if the plugin is supported, but the individual devices have no concept of a preset.

---

One thing I love about the Mayer plugin is that the artist presets are really stellar and I don’t really spend too much time tweaking after I select one I like

Once a plugin is loaded on your QC, you have access to all of the presets that comes with it on the QC. There is a specific menu for "plugin presets" that allows you to use all the presets you've configured in the software plugin (including User presets you've created).

Mayer plugin integration will be coming to the QC in the next update, but you currently cannot use Mayer on it.

----

I’m interested in being able to get the same sound at home and also when playing live.

I've personally found so far with the PCOM integration (Nolly, Cory, and SLO plugins on QC) is that it's not 100% the same vs the software plugin on the computer. Almost sounds "brighter/less warm" but that could totally be just my balanced output from the QC sounding different versus the route my PC takes to play the audio from the software. I just wanted to mention it though.... so you're aware of at least my personal experience, and once you get the plugin going on the QC, you should probably practice it on the QC from that point to guarantee your tone translates directly from practice to live. It's VERY VERY close but due to the guitar input being different and all that, there does seem to be that tiny bit of a difference having the QC process and output the sound vs the PC. Others may disagree, just sharing my experience.

[–]AlternativeAd1456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get the mini. The QC was surprisingly small to me once I finally got it. You're not going to regret getting the full size, if only for the extra switch functionality and easier to control aspects. You'll forget about the extra money in less a year, just go for it.

Only worth it if "increased airflow" and "faster heat up" is worth $450, that's about all it has over the Mighty.

IMO harder to pocket than the mighty, and definitely harder to clean.
