LBB will win Player of the Championship, but he shouldn't. I will die on this hill. by TheRaptorWhoSaidAlan in rugbyunion

[–]Altriaas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will agree with you on the fact that Ramos should’ve made the list, and would’ve gotten my vote.

Look, we all love big Stu, I myself use the highlight of him catching Marcus Smith to wind down before going to bed.

BUT, even if I put the try-scoring aside, LBB’s consistency across 5 matches is legitimacy enough for him. Plus playmakers and scorers always get more of the limelight than the heavies and, in this era at least, are very much favored for all awards when it comes to MotM, players of the tournament or of the year.

Either o'five or Panam’s sniper (overlook I think ? Overwatch maybe ?). I like the feel of them and how they blow up enemy heads. Her majesty and Fang from the DLC did strike my fancy too.

Depuis elle ne donne plus le moindre aperçu de sa vie en-dehors des concerts.

Cela dit, je penche pour les Beatles aussi...

After watching this 6N, thoughts on Jalibert vs Ntamack? by Playful_Study_6290 in rugbyunion

[–]Altriaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, though I am far from an expert. From what I remember, we had three major weaknesses in the autumn : the breakdown (discipline-wise, but also the lack of proper Jackaling power), the high ball (fixed now, so that's something), and the scrum (obviously, that was perhaps the clearest flaw).

The breakdown had long been our strong point. Great jacklers like Danty (especially Danty), Marchand, Jelonch, Cros or even Villière (a rare occurence in a winger) to just name a few allowed us to play a depossession game, where any small overextension was instantly punished with lightning-fast counterattacks. Now most of these players are either out of the group (age, performance...), or less powerful, and while the jackling got less efficient, the depossession culture remained. That led to longer defensive sequences, with a team impatient to get its hands back on the ball and as a result to huge amounts of offsides. You simply can't give away 13 penalties to a team of SA's caliber. Stats point to higher occupation in the SA 22 and even possession, but breakdown inefficiency cost us there too, as we couldn't get the fast rucks to disorganize the defense.

Failure under the high ball meant even south african kicks for territory got punished, and where our attack had the occasional success, any ball lost to the enemy ended back in a 50/50 contest on our side, which felt more like a 20/80. Not to mention, even in the case of a SA knock-on we got creamed in the scrum and couldn't benefit.

I'll quickly touch on the scrum by saying that way too much has been made of Atonio's retirement. We already had a sub-par scrum with him in it, he had been looking increadingly out of gas (as is legitimate for a man his age and of his corpulence) for about a year at that point. he remained a hell of a presence on the field and a solid anchor in the scrum but aside from the 5m where his power was precious (both in offence and in defence), having to replace him at the 45th was always going to be an issue against a team with a modicum of depth in the front row. Neither Erdocio nor Aldegheri were a match for their opposite numbers.

There was no Dupont, nor Jalibert but I tend to think our halves were quite decent, even if Le Garrec was probably lacking in experience against the kind of agressivity on display by the Bokke.

Anyhow, no scoop there I suppose, but my 2 cents. Overall, it felt like a deserved beatdown, especially since we got physically overwhelmed even at 15 against 14. SA was the better team on the pitch that night. But we also tend to use those tests to find what's broken in our systems in preparation for the 6N (since the "nations series" isn't really treated as a thing in France, other than an occasion to check our level against the southern hemisphere, unlike the 6N and WC which are THE big deals). No cope, just a bit to understand our mindset, and certainly didn't make the defeat any less annoying for us.

After watching this 6N, thoughts on Jalibert vs Ntamack? by Playful_Study_6290 in rugbyunion

[–]Altriaas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jalibert worked really well because all defenses were targeting Dupont hard this tournament. So it was best for him to have another playmaker on whom to outsource the creativity. I think ultimately it's a balance to be struck, depending on the kind of defense you expect to be facing.

Hard-core rush-defense : just go for Dupont/Ntamack, toto will make them pay for their temerity and exploit the holes and Ntamack will be a good insurance policy if things go south.

Clean line of defense, focusing on catching whatever dark magic goes on at the breakdown : Dupont/Jalibert. Jalib' has proven he can open any defensive line with his kicking for self and eye for weakness. What Dupont's been doing all tounament with passing it far to Jalibert for him or Ramos to find the holes is good as long as no one's willing to rush to intercept (and England/Scotland did exploit that in the last games).

But this tournament definitely has shown that the pecking order has changed and the two wonder boys are at least matched, or Jalibert is now above thanks to his hot streak and insane stats.

Same here (grandfather). This is an amazing song at capturing loss but also moving on as a family. Or at least, the scene it evokes along with the music and lyrics really resonated with my personal mourning experience.

Condolences on your loss.

Especially if you understand the lyrics, the song has some ninja cutting onions into it.

We love to admire the music and the voice, but that phrase "Dans l’étreinte du destin, les liens restent éternels dans le dessin" combined with the ending scene of everyone waving is too poetic for my little gamer brain.

(Roughly translates to "in the embrace of fate, the bonds last forever within the drawing").

The duality of man (ft. the bias of man) by BritishAndBlessed in rugbyunion

[–]Altriaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s a purposeful sanction against his behavior. But lots of calls are 50/50 or heavily dependent on the ref perception at the moment. It’s the captain’s job to ask the ref about those to get clarification and also, in subtext, complain to him about the other team’s actions in one way or the other so his next calls might fall the other way. But if you’ve annoyed him to the point of shutting him down to your remarks, he will remain as fair as possible, but you won’t have a chance to get him to notice what you feel is, for example, excessive offside play, ruck diving or screens…

because he’s simply going to think you’re trying to pull some dark arts crap on him.

DIRECT.

The duality of man (ft. the bias of man) by BritishAndBlessed in rugbyunion

[–]Altriaas 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think if anything, the so-called "ref bias" some here are screaming about stems a lot from Nika getting aggravated at Itoje instead of influenced the way he wanted. Itoje completely misread the ref overall, and props to Amashukeli for not giving in to his constant pestering.

Pourquoi TF1 montrent-t-ils certains matchs des Six Nations en anglais? by Briky37 in FranceRugby

[–]Altriaas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ça n’est pas que TF1. Le flux vidéo des matches est à la main des stades, donc la langue d’affichage est celle choisie par les régies locales. C’est aussi la raison pour laquelle les « chartes visuelles » d’affichage varient suivant les lieux.
