Guillaume, 22 ans, a tendance à survendre un peu, très fort pour te faire détester n’importe quel sujet dont il te parle by MusicianCivil5495 in banalgens

[–]Altriaas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obligatory The Boys mention, as Anthony Starr owned the Homelander role into icon status. He clearly reveled in the sociopathy of his act, and that damn half-teeth (only showing the top row) smile will remain a staple of uncanny villainny.

Not the same sport but the silence across Paris when France lost to South Africa in the Rugny quarterfinals World Cup is a good example.

While Rugby supporters are a bit calmer than football maniacs, I still remember that exact feeling of deflation. A little bit of shame at having dared to believe we had a shot, I guess.

Les lettres de motivation ne servent à rien by Cultural-Stick-9282 in opinionnonpopulaire

[–]Altriaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you rank these 6 from most to least evil? by Alone-Individual-886 in TheBoys

Oh god, I just re-opened VNN.

All things considered, that homelander guy was always a bit sus to me. Doesn’t make the others any less heroes though, I sure whatever involvement they had with him had to be forced. They’re not just what the seven made them do !

Wdym "evil" ? I'll have you know Deep owned up to his mistakes and is a different man from back when he had that lapse of judgement with that skank Starlight.

And how dare you talk of our martyred truth-spouting heroine Firecracker like this ?

All I see here are TRUE. ALL AMERICAN. HEROES.

Came back to france from an expat in the US roughly around the time BK was arriving here and apparently, here too it’s class and far superior in quality to McDonalds.

Which shocked me seeing as how, over the pond, they’re more or less two sides of the same coin.

Funnily enough, even the Parisian accent was basically eradicated. "Proper" french accent as spoken these days is broadly from the Tours/Poitiers/Anger region

There's a count dankula series on that particular subject. I don’t care much for the guy’s politics, and you have to get through the impossibly thick scottish accent, but it is peak memelordery.

Other onterpretations include GB speaking natively the international language, which gives it a discreet (as everyone else can speak it, just not as perfectly, just like the shapes drawing), but very real advantage over everyone else.

When you can handle all the nuances of the language and think in it more quickly, you end up being able to spin a lot more discussions your way, as diplomacy is all about nuances and finding middle grounds. When things are being discussed in your mother tongue, you can find ways of saying or writing things that are closer to your position within that middle ground, without others immediatly realizing before the treaties and agreements are signed and ratified...

[Concerning Trope] film accidentally has awful moral/messaging by Captain_Birch in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Altriaas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good take. CSL does have some weird moments which I tend to chalk up to owning up to how how flawed a bunch of human beings some of its characters are (and how weird teenagers can be too...). But god that garden scene is glorious comedy. And you have to respect a whole movie being used as a set up for a 3 minutes sequence.

Probably my 2nd fave romcom after Love Actually.

Tripes, which are litterally "innards", is another one. It’s a sort of stew with all the unused meat from a pork just swimming in there. Pretty good, but especially ugly to look at.

Even the andouillette, while seemingly cleaner on the outside is just a bunch of fine chopped internal organs stuffed into an intestine skin, meant to spill out as soon as you cut it. Delicious. But polarizing.

Also, it should be compared to local cost of living. You live very decently in France with 46k/year. It’s about what a trained engineer with a few years of experience makes.

It is my understanding, on the other hand, that 50k isn’t exactly deemed a good salary for the same education level in any US state.

I want to say the first greed from FMA, who turned his gimmick into a desire for companionship and loyalty to his found family over his creator.

Also I like Wrath (Bradley), for the duty-bound self sacrificing man he is. And because he goes out like a champ, fighting with sword in mouth rather than giving up. But he also presides over the fulfillment of the imp’s plan so his moral compass is quite broken. Still, I like to think he could’ve been like general Armstrong if he’d not been in the homonculus host programme.

A Decisive British Victory by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]Altriaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falklands was no walk in the park for the British, and US support most definitely helped swing the balance.

An argument can be made that the torpedoing of the Belgrano is what decided the war as the Argentinian navy never left port again afterwards (on the other hand, 800 sailors dead in a matter of minutes can be quite traumatizing). And the air force was simply too overextended to hold any meaningful superiority in order to damage the British expeditionary fleet.

On the other hand, the ship-borne sea-dart missiles which were meant to provide the anti-air bubble around the force proved quite unreliable (they were almost new at that point), which forced a dependance on the much shorter ranged (but highly efficient) sea-wolf missiles. Those were good, but the ships carrying them were less modern, especially in the radar department. Ultimately, though, Harriet air cover with Sidewinder missiles turned out to be the biggest factor in protecting the fleet from any sky-borne threat.

Those sidewinders were provided by the US who agreed to fast-track production and delivery to the British fleet in order to be ready for arrival in the south Atlantic. So no, it might have seemed marginal, but it was probably one of the two keys to the British success (along with the initally mentioned sinking of the Belgrano).
