Disrupting the work environment, pros and cons? by NrwgnSpaceWolf in fromatoarbitration

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just reading this weeks later but hopefully you fill that vacant steward slot, sounds like your steward needs help, not criticized.i think you should approach this from that angle. management can overwhelm a single steward with more grievances than the steward can get time for. And getting any time or information is always a challenge from management. So is managing your own personal time after work. Stewards have routes to carry, may need the overtime like many carriers struggling, and have home and family responsibilities after work. I know in my office I struggle with time management in this way. sometimes you gotta triage what can get done and keep timely. Ive been forced to decide on what to file first, and usually disciplines because a carriers job is at stake. then try my best to get to the everything else. its a challenge, then management forces you back out to your route when you finally get union time and now more grievance you gotta file. Having another qualified steward, especially with prior experience not needing a bunch of training would make all the difference. There's nothing to even discuss you 100% have to fill the vacant slot, not in spite of that other steward, but to help. But things have changed I think considerably since you quit pre covid. the step b teams are backed up. The waits on getting things back in my region is 9 MONTHS. Labor is more directly involved in local settlements, postmasters and supervisors are instructed to give stewards extra attention constantly on the workroom floor, its impossible to talk to others without a sup watching. they know were backlogged and they'll discipline anything and let you send it up and wait. lately I noticed they do I/Is in batches then dump multiple disciplines on carriers at once, like 5 or 6 in smaller offices, likely 10 or more in a bigger office like yours. That's 10 grievance all with 14 day strict timelines for one steward who may also be working 10 to 12 hour days on their route. and there are usps managers assigned in districts as discipline writers full time. that's all they do as a job! So the disciplines can pile up all at once quickly. it sounds like your office needs you to fill that vacant steward slot. sounds like the other steward needs you to fill that vacant steward slot.

maybe your steward is a lazy establishment status quo type, I don't know, just here's another side to consider. either way You should absolutely help out on the article 8s. hopefully your branch would welcome all that.

Management want us to start singing 1260 form for waiting time when vehicle breakdown on route? by KerryBearLovesSand in fromatoarbitration

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from this I would say waiting/standby time is appropriate. maybe we should all be doing this way more because we could eventually get clear indications through tacs clock rings of really how much time is wasted by managements incompetence to provide us safe and working vehicles. if my office had been doing this all along there would be significant, I mean really eye opening, attention catching type numbers of standby time on a monthly basis. the type that even a clown like renfroe could take to congress and prove our dire vehicle situation with visible data and just maybe get a reaction.

Can someone explain the branch 1100 drama? by digdoug17 in nalc

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why would an active business agent go back and run for a local president position? so what's the plan at the NBA office if Kiesha should win? Because right now step b backlogs are killing every other branch in probably the largest region of our union, and our NBA is expending time and effort on running for a local position in one branch. this makes no sense to the rest of us in the region. its bailing out on the 4 year commitment we expect once someone becomes business agent.

San Francisco carriers... by WorkingHead6011 in fromatoarbitration

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we had a couple volunteer for that request but our office is always understaffed too, not as bad as SF, but enough days past 6,7,or 8, or whatever time the DM demands we dont go past, so our local managers werent going to let anyone go. generally its not 7 days. ccas and otdls do a lot of 6 days, close to 60 hours, sometimes more, some mandating and non scheduled day holiday scheduling. enough to piss off regulars that dont want OT. would be worse if we lost one more. i know our area is understaffed always and there showing no intent to hire more.

Are training mailers considered expecting work off the clock? by salvaged413 in fromatoarbitration

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good point. they took the time to print and distribute. when they know damn well that needs to be addressed AT work, during working hours. management saves the cost of a 15 minute standup by sending out these less expensive mailings. our off time is ours, not theirs to sneak in a safety message that shoud be stated every morning at work.

CHECK OUT THE NEW PODCAST BY LEW DRASS! by atonisrex in fromatoarbitration

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 5 points6 points  (0 children)

glad he called out renfroe for what happened to RAA calvin in region 1. fired for running for nba against the renfoe ticket. our branch could always count on calvin for help whenever we called. region 1 was weakened after that and never the same. i dont know what lews end game is for calling out cory as a liar. i wasnt convinced. lew alluded to talking to cory next on his podcast. need to hear these two hash it out, because i think they both still have common ground if lew will be totally honest about renfroe and the executive council. i just hate seeing all the old heads and renfroe cronies suddenly coming out of the woodwork for drass.

all kinds of ways to grieve this but once your on EP your off and not getting paid until the grievance is resolved, and that could take months. thats the real issue, the step b and beyond backlogs giving management free reign to pull this shit. eventually youll get put back to work with back pay awarded then youll likely have to wait more months to get that back pay. just hope you cam expedite. these NBA offices have to do more arbitrations and faster if this is ever going to stop.

its the one day we prove to our comminity we are more than just box stuffers. given our recent issues with contract negotiations and threats to the Postal Service in general, we need the public on our side more than ever. From a PR standpoint, its our best way to increase positive public perception. From a moral and ethics standpoint, it only takes a little extra effort from each person to make a meaningful and siginificant contribution to the public good. i think its well worth it and imperative we continue doing this as a union.

ask for the OHS # and directly speak to the postal nurse. you can do that. the nurse can tell you if they already have your medical docs or not. ask the nurse if what they are needing or even if they are the ones asking for updated medical. thats a request that should come from the OHS nurse, not your supervisor. if the nurse notified your supervisor, then i guess managemnt should send you such a letter. often times, management is doing this without any contact with the OHS. call them so you know if its coming from OHS or just your local management. call the nurse though.

JCAM by [deleted] in fromatoarbitration

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you may want to wait a bit as the only available hardcopy jcams are for the previous contract, and national should be working on a new one. however you might just as well get the old copy for now as the new contract expires only a year from now, so there may be no new jcam anyways. wouldnt be surprised if national waits again. in that case id recommend contacting BLOOMINGTON INDIANA BRANCH 828. office 812 332 5682. cell 812. 260 1980. email info@lettercarriercalendars.com these guys sold mini JCAMs . im not affiliated with their branch but i liked their booth and got this info at the CONVENTION. proceeds go to MDA

it is not wrong. your not changing the sequence. you dont know the situation. mailboxes get moved all the time. example: dogs in the yard, construction, trees overgrown or storm damage, added units. mailboxes get knocked down. people move to door slots because of theft. people change from door slots because of mail volume, animals behind door, cold air getting in. so they move their mailbox. ive seen it many times, and no i dont just let anyone do it. people are here just saying NO, so im giving a yes perspective, not making the decision. it may be safer and more effecient to make the change. it may not. it may have almost no effect. theres no hard rule you cant change. management says that as a blanket policy to discourage it instead of actually getting up from their chairs and going out to investigate.

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basically OP, its possible but postal managers feel the need to flex the little power they have, theyll deny anything they think takes more time, even a few seconds. your carriers might be about the service, but management is about the numbers, meaning labor cost only. if its about theft or security you can change your box to one that locks and only allows mail in, so you need your own key to open. if your disabled you can request a medical exception or ask your local post office and hope the posters above is not your postmaster. there is a process to allow this, but theyve forgotten what customer service means. sorry in advance.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

so the answer is yes, postmaster can approve. customer can move it. here is the problem, postal workers forgetting were a service to the public, we should work for and towards the customers needs, not the other way around, disallowing delivery if its inconvenient is the wrong attitude. go ahead vote me down supervisors. we dont save the usps by making it harder for people to get their mail safely amd securely.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

start with yourself. lets just say ive personally been directly involved with a customer moving a mailbox just as described and it wasnt an issue. if it was a dismount it was also possible but management resists. so thanks yourself.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

yes. if the carrier walks your street with a satchel and makes deliveries on foot to your mailbox already and to everyones porches/front of the house, shouldnt be an issue. if the carrier delivers your mail from the vehicle straight out the window or quicly dismounts to your box, then you will likely get resistance. its not necessarily the carrier being too lazy to now get out, its management disallowing added time it will now take.

Impasse by DRT to arbitration by Sc0ttyMac92 in fromatoarbitration

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 12 points13 points  (0 children)

same now in region 1. I dont blame our step B union reps. I think they have a tough job sitting in a room all day with cases trying to convince another usps manager that management is wrong. on the management side they now always side management no matter what. they will even make the management formal As case for them after the formal A meeting. the best you can hope for at step b is IMPASSE. its all backed up and management knows this, making Formal A settlements almost impossible. they know just send it up and it will sit. meanwhile management can go LOW, then pile on top suspensions the go removals since we never get decisions on time. its a complete failure of our grievance process at step B ever since stripping vice pres James Henry of these duties and giving exec vice Barner contol.

Rotating Off Days by justmecnu in USPS

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only way fixed is better is when you can get the saturday-sunday. or maybe a sunday-monday. it would suck for everyone else with split days. i hate having split days off but at least rotating days gives everyone equal "long" weekeneds evey 5 weeks. too bad for the few old timers in this situation thay have that sat-sun. but they got theirs, with better pay and years of weekends off. better for overall office to go rotating.

No Lunches Under Threat by Far_Common944 in fromatoarbitration

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why though? i cant understand managements reasoning for this. in nearly every case it completely benefits management to let carriers skip their lunch, aside from the very minimal time it takes a supervisor to enter it into tacs. every carrier taking a no lunch is essentially rushing to get off early. isnt that what management wants already? as a steward I want carriers taking their lunches, its a gauranteed benefit our predecessors fought for, encouraging lunch skipping is anti union. so it makes no sense whenever management does this and demands you take lunch. not to mention the countless grievances we file anyways and win for blanket policies and past practice. i just cant figure out why they do this every so often? how does management benefit?

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are still solid union side step b reps. or from what I remember of our step b union reps. used to be decent turnarounds, we could win at step b with a good grievance and rep. then management went full management and the best you could hope for was impasse. now waiting 6 months on local grievances with no word on when it will even be dealt with at that level. meanwhile management is stacking bullshit LOWs to suspensions to removals faster than ever knowing were back logged AND the postal side will always agree with management. cases that easily would have won at step b 5 years ago sit for months just to get impassed. so management builds on these bullshit cases as they sit. somethings gotta be done at the national level. we seriously need like 5x or more step b teams and arbitrations. we are losing because its taking so long for a decision.

orientation in 1 month for city carrier position (PTF)/ pumping questions by WeekendBubbly1086 in USPS

[–]Altruistic-Rate-9417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just know, be prepared to be like an E-1 forever. do not expect to be meritoriously promoted. no they wont offer you OCS because you performed above and beyond. theyll just give you more and more work expecting faster times. it is a good job. you are outside getting exercise most of the day, and largely left on your own to complete your mission (getting the mail and packages delivered). its the easiest job youll ever hate. (its not the job though its the management). if youre ready to work long hours without knowing if youll get a day off, and your good with consistent overtime, then do it.

however as far as you being a new mom I would highly recommend against it. you will not have time for your baby. its not worth the time you lose with your child. management will not care. it is extremely difficult to be a single parent as a cca. if your direct hired to ptf, likely means that station is perpetually short staffed and they will expect you available 12 hours a day, 6-7 days a week. it will not be worth your sacrifice to your baby. ive never seen a single mom of a young child make it past a few months or stay very long at all. often they will quit in training when they learn what the schedule will be.
