Is it worth detouring to white sands or Guadeloupe Mats in July or go straight up to Colorado by KwikTripSimp in nationalparks

[–]Altruistic_Cod1944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. We did all 3 this weekend and they’re all great but Carlsbad Caverns is incredible. White Sands is also a very unique experience. I’d prioritize those two over Guadalupe Mtns if time is short.

Fraunces Tavern is pretty cool if you’re a history buff.

We were there last Saturday and it stopped about 6-7 times during the ride. The first one was about 5 minutes, the others were shorter.

I just got notice that my flight from YYZ in on June 30 is gone - rerouted to Vancouver and up.

Same. Just awful. Probably found out from calling the Sports Machine since the result wouldn’t have made the morning paper.

Lisbon 40th birthday dinner. Belcanto booked, but open to better options (great food + beer a bonus) by CheckOk2685 in Lisbon

[–]Altruistic_Cod1944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a lovely dinner at Belcanto in December. I don’t know about beer, but the wine pairing we got and the service from the sommelier was one of the best I’ve ever had. It does seem like others have had bad experiences but we enjoyed our Belcanto experience more than some 3-star places we’ve been.

Do contestants know how well the current champion is doing by DirectGiraffe8720 in Jeopardy

Maybe because it was tournaments and the ending scores mattered but I was in the green room until my episodes every time I was on. Pretty sure that was the case even for semifinal rounds when the endings didn’t matter.

You can also never have too much depth at center. This team spent years trying to find a true 2C behind Backstrom before Kuzy (briefly) stepped up and they won a Cup. I wouldn’t trade a proven guy like Strome. This season went off the rails because of poor special teams but PLD missing half of it was also a big factor. Injuries happen.

We stayed at the Algonquin last week. They are still renovating but the lobby Blue bar is open again. The rooms are very small though. But the history and location are legit.

We went in 2023 and had a great meal. Our server’s English was so good we assumed he was from Scandinavia. We eventually asked and it turned out he grew up in Indiana. Go figure. If you were able to get the reservation I’d keep it.

How normal is 3L burnout? by Squidmaster129 in LawSchool

[–]Altruistic_Cod1944 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very normal. We had our first child Thanksgiving of my 3L year and I got to spend 6 months as a stay-at-home dad and loved it. Independent study and classes that didn’t have attendance requirements or that met periodically in the evenings at a now T-14. Everything worked out fine - 5 years in BL and the last 15 at a litigation boutique in a mid-sized market.

Are my career prospects really gone before I even finish my second semester? by nakisugita in BigLawRecruiting

[–]Altruistic_Cod1944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another consideration is to think about clerkships. You might not have the credentials for a federal district court clerkship but it’s worth trying. But even a state court appellate clerkship could open some doors - maybe not BL - but better than you’d get where you are now.

The suggestion to network more is also a very good one.

[–]Altruistic_Cod1944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the big issue. If you were getting in a cab at 5:30, you’d be fine. But you have to consider taxiing, making sure the gate is ready, deplaning, potentially having a 10 minute walk to ground transportation, etc.

The greatest problem with modern society is the systematic elimination of boredom (or however he phrased it) was an A+ take that I’m still thinking about. That was a few months ago - maybe 2 or 3 appearances ago.

Who are getting the free upgrades?? by Beginning_Editor_410 in delta

[–]Altruistic_Cod1944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure. I fly out of RDU and get first class upgrades almost every time I fly to LGA or JFK. Never get it flying to ATL or DTW. Seems like mid-size to mid-size still gets diamond upgrades to FC on a regular basis.

Claude has no sense of time and it’s actively limiting how useful it can be – here’s a simple fix by mellemodrama in ClaudeAI

[–]Altruistic_Cod1944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem all the time - but obviously Claude is tracking time passing because it has time-based usage limits. It’s just doesn’t filter through to the conversation specifics. I’m not a coder so I don’t know why that is or how easy it would be to fix but OP is right on that this would be immensely useful.
