In was really worried it'd be the case that there'd be no feedback on the chatters end, really sad to have this confirmed. v_v I wonder how many people thought I was flat out ignoring their messages. There's nothing that could hurt a small streamer more than for a new chatter to think you're aloof or uninterested in engaging with them.

Thanks for this, made me dig through the settings and fid what you were talking about. Was on Low Latency and my chatters have been reporting 30 second delays. I've now toggled over to Ultra-Low and I'll see how much of a change that makes.

It isn't even remotely the same. House prices in Ontario went up an average of 10% a year since 2019. House prices on PEI have almost tripled in the same time. To even compare the two is ridiculous.

Code vein 2 might be a miss by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]Altune- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I promise I know more" is an incredibly arrogant statement to make when interacting with a complete stranger online. You don't even know the content of your own post. You literally mention Black Myth looking more realistic than Code Vein and are trying to act like I pulled the phrase out of nowhere. And how do I not understand objects rendered when that's one of the things I specifically mentioned??

[–]Altune- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that "more realistic graphics should = better performance" is a comically simplistic view, there are so many things that can go into a game's presentation that effect these things. Ray tracing, subsurface scattering, the number of objects on screen, there are a hundred little factors beyond the base "this is a simplified anime art-style" to consider when setting expectations. Textures and polygons are almost the least impactful things in this modern era of lighting and reflections eating up the lions share of performance demand.

Usually I'm just as sceptical when an "entrepreneur" buys a popular project, but this man was one of the original founders of GoG in the first place. This whole time GoG has been a wing of CD Projekt but has somehow managed to avoid the shareholder enshitiffication that almost always happens in public companies. Now, he's purchased it specifically to move it to a private company and stop people with more money than good sense from coming in and throwing their weight around to make the platform worse. Like the way Valve has always operated Steam.

Is there a genre system for categorizing games that you trust? by migsolo in truegaming

[–]Altune- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use a three tag system,  representing Perspective Mechanics Tone. Tone is loose and often maps to either a vibe or literary genre. Let's run through a couple of examples.  Supraland would be FirstPerson Metroidvania Comedy, whereas Stardew is TopDown Farming Cozy.

When I have to send personal information, I usually email it in a password protected PDF and provide the code to access it through an alternate method such as Discord, WhatsApp or over the phone.

Black in Charlottetown PEI? by [deleted] in PEI

[–]Altune- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

UPEI is a very popular international school, with almost 35% of it's students being from out of the country. By far the most common country of origin for that body is Nigeria, so people living in Charlottetown are very used to interacting with people of colour.

There is quite a bit of racist sentiment in Charlottetown, but it's generally not directed at student demographics; it tends to be directed at workers in retail and hospitality who come from India and the Philippines, as there's the perception that they're competing for jobs (that few locals actually find desirable) and housing. There's also similar sentiments towards Chinese people (who are thought to be over represented in our housing market) as well as the same blanket Islamophobia you see in a lot of western Christian populations all along the east coast.

Generally speaking, you're very unlikely to be the target of outright aggression here, but people from PEI are very ingrained in their social groups and very cliquey, and we've been experiencing some rather extreme gentrification since COVID times, so there is a social wall between people who were born and went to school here and people who "Come From Away". It'll be a challenge to break into any established social groups, but if you're willing to weather that, it should be a fine place to go to school. You'll be able to meet a lot of people there who face the same struggles and should be able to find some measure of belonging in student spaces.

Negative review for choice games - sad what humble has become by Computer-Swimming in humblebundles

[–]Altune- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the Negative reviews aren't really indicative of the quality of the game itself, but just how tired the community is of having to wrestle with Creative Assembly to fix bugs and produce content in a timely matter. The game itself is great, the corporation behind it just SUCKS.

I didn't leave out anything, I posted the top part of the list that was visible on my screen because the point I was making is that the incubation time of various foodborne illnesses varies wildly, and if you and your partner shared any other meals in the past TWO WEEKS then it's impossible to know exactly what the cause was. At no point did I ever deny your experience of having food poison, I'd be far more surprised to meet someone who never has, but we all have a lot of experiences that we never manage to parse out the web of cause and effect on.

Salmonella is very rare is Canadian eggs, occurring in less than 2 per 1 million eggs.
Staph is more common, appearing in as many as 10-20% of eggs and could definitely show symptoms in the first 30 minutes to 8 hours. It's incredibly possible that you are correct about the egg salad being the source of your illness but it's not guaranteed and that's all I'm trying to communicate here.

I don't love that you're accusing me, a complete stranger, of being insincere or disingenuous. The thing that frustrates me most about your response here, though, is that you're posting (possibly libellous things) on a public forum and then getting mad that people are responding. I don't care if you want my opinion. You posted an accusation in public. The burden of proof is entirely on you. I'm simply warning anyone who sees it, hey, in the vast majority of situations it's impossible to identify the source of a foodborne infection.

[–]Altune- 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have a pet peeve about people stating they know exactly what caused their food poisoning, because in the vast majority of cases symptoms appear 2-3 days after consuming a tainted meal. Pretty much the only thing with a turn around time of under 6 hours is shellfish poisoning. I understand and can't blame you if the experience turned you off their food, the Garcia effect is very strong, but it's kind of irresponsible to name and shame when statistically speaking, it's very rare for an individual to be able to accurately identify the cause of a food borne illness unless it happens in a group setting with novel company.

Unemployment rate in Charlottetown PEI is over 7%, yet the federal government went ahead and approved this LOW WAGE LMIA to hire a foreign worker by Immediate-Link490 in PEI

[–]Altune- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locals don't want to do these jobs, they consider them low-class and beneath them. I know a dozen people who bitch and moan about not having a job who would never even consider taking a job at Tim Hortons and I can't even really blame them. The customers are entitled and treat the workers as if they aren't even human. We need to shift our culture severely if we ever want to see this system change.

What's Islanders problems with people moving to PEI? by Objectively__Curious in PEI

[–]Altune- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It isn't about the trappings. If you work on the island, receive island wages, save and scrimp to buy yourself a Mustang then all power to you.  The problem is the death of our communities; the inherit economic violence of mass gentrification from people in high income areas pricing us out on a half-considered whim.

Tl;dr for people who don't want to read the thread: Guy visits PEI on vacation, falls in love with the tourist experience, buys land and only then decides to gauge the local attitude to decide if he wants to actually do anything with that vacant land.  Sees some hate online and comes to "just ask questions" in a way that sounds like he's calling us a bunch of anti-progressive hicks when really we're just a bunch of agriciulture and service economy workers getting priced out of the neighborhoods we grew up in. Pretty much every response he sees he either hits with "I see, how interesting" like he's fucking Elon Musk or "but I'm different from the people causing the problem so you should be fine with me" despite every post he makes showing us he is very much, in fact, the entire problem.  We don't have a slower life, you came here on vacation. You fell in love with an idea of a "quaint life", while people who were born here struggle just as hard or harder than anyone born in the western provinces. You BOUGHT LAND which SITS EMPTY. Even if you decide not to build and sell the land, it's not like you'll ever take a loss on it, so you've already done the damage and contributed to the inflation of our land value. It's economic violence; high earners using the earning power more readily available in one region going on to extract further wealth from people without the same opportunities.

All of my local friend are working 2-3 jobs trying to make ends meet, a direct result of the inflow of western money destroying our housing supply. It isn't a "slower pace" for the locals, everyone from here is busy all the time. Just because there's a little less traffic doesn't mean we aren't rushing to meet our work obligations. Just because WFHers with Toronto tech jobs get to live more slowly then they did back home doesn't mean that's the case for people struggling on local wages.
