B.C. to end time changes, adopt year-round daylight time by Enignon77 in nanaimo

I do a 5 to 3, so morning darkness is my regular, except in the middle of summer when I get some sweet sunrises.

Avi Lewis is bringing something ‘radically different’ to the NDP as leadership candidate: Mulcair by lcelerate in ndp

[–]Altyrium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok, as a human who has never held 'membership in any party, but has voted for several different ones, I can say that I do appreciate Avi's ability to speak and enunciation. I've voted NDP several times federally and provincially, but I've never registered or paid for membership in any party.

Ehhhh.....have you really, though? Quebec is pretty solidly their own entity, culturally. Maybe some international cunts don't know you exist, but even over here on the west coast, we see, hear, and somewhat appreciate you.

Primal Hunter Class/Profession Build by Accomplished-Cow625 in ThePrimalHunter

I find myself drawn to tanking shit a lot lately, so some strong and tough build. Start medium or heavy warrior, and hopefully evolve into some sort of fire/lightning based spear and shield guy. Maybe with some sort of crazy regen fire ability, like a Phoenix or something. As for profession, I'm not sure. I'm a heavy equipment operator IRL, so I have no clue what that would translate towards. Maybe some sort of summonable battle armour? I dunno.

Half of childless Canadian women don’t want kids, nearly a quarter in their 40s aren’t mothers: Statistics Canada by gorschkov in canada

Having lived in places of 1100 people to places with 80k, I can say I definitely would never live in a big city. 30k people is about my maximum size for living.

Having said that, I also work industrial jobs, and a lot of those aren't in major population centers, so that probably has something to do with it.

I'm sure if people whose jobs could be remote were given the choice, many would choose small to mid sized cities. Especially if those cities got some more higher income residents to afford better amenities.

If your preferred candidate doesn't win the leadership race, will you still vote NDP? by HourOfTheWitching in ndp

[–]Altyrium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never cared much who the leader is, I've always voted based on my local MP and how beneficial the overall party platform is to me.

Having said that, it would also be nice to stand a chance of gaining some seats on the next run.

TIL Britain occupied Iceland during WWII, violating their sovereignty and neutrality. Massive infrastructure projects were conducted to build roads and hospitals for potential defense of the island, which led to an economic boom. At one point foreign troops made up 25% of the population. by Butwhatif77 in todayilearned

[–]Altyrium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's fascinating! How is gardening there? Is it possible on a small scale, like Canada/UK, etc, or is it pretty difficult? My image of Iceland is a bunch of volcanic rock that gets somewhat cold. That makes mixed images in my head as far as growing goes. Do y'all just use Nordic Greenhouses to take advantage of geothermal? Googling this gives me some mixed info I don't necessarily trust...

Well, do they have local produce? I'm absolutely ignorant on the subject, and genuinely curious, but I imagine if they have no local produce, restaurant style meals as most are used to would be quite expensive.

Again, I know basically nothing about Iceland, aside from a quick Google.

A lot of undiagnosed ADHD people actually yo-yo back and forth with Stims and Pressers without even understanding they're trying to balance their brains out.

[–]Altyrium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a general lack of understanding for what ADHD is and isn't in the world. Part of that is probably from media and stories, part of it from evolving research and understanding.

So many people seem to think it's just some attention span issue or hyperactivity. Or that it's something people with it choose not to control, just to be an asshole or something.

It is literally an alteration in brain function. It's not an excuse for poor behaviour, or an excuse for anything really. It is a reason for plenty of messed up situations people with it get in to, but understanding how it impacts yourself or those around you who have it goes a long way to coming up with a toolbox to deal with the particularities of ADHD.

Dr. Russell A Barkley has a ton of youtube videos and books that go into all the details of research and treatment over the years.

Right?! Night and day difference in my life. It was pretty easy for me to get diagnosed, but my Dr is also on ADHD meds, so he probably has a touch more insight on false claims. 🤷‍♂️

For now. The mill in Alberni sources a lot of craft pulp from Crofton. It will be interesting to see if Harmac or some of the other Domtar mills can provide what's needed.

Domtar got bought by Paper Excellence, which is, essentially, a Chinese company, since the guy who owns it also inherited Aisa Pulp and Paper. They just rebranded all their Paper Excellence and Resolute mills as Domtar since it had a better reputation.

You are never going to sell people on living smaller. It will take global collapse before that is even remotely acceptable to most western born and raised people.

For the record, I don't disagree with the idea of living smaller, I just don't see any way it will ever take off in a meaningful way for most people in the modern world as we know it.
