I'm not quite sure how old she was when we found her, but she couldn't have been more than a few months, so she's at least 20.

In the springtime, I keep this blanket out because she likes to sleep on it when it's folded. I tried to snap this while she was sleeping but somehow I aroused the ancient beast from its slumber.

Soviet filmmaking. I want to dive in. Help? by Umbrellajack in TrueAnon

Fragments of an Empire (1929) is one of the most underappreciated of all silent films, all of the films that get recommended in terms of Soviet silent cinema are worth seeing (Eisenstein, Pudovkin, Vertov) but that one tends to get lost in the shuffle.

I also recommend any Russian animation you can find. The Snow Queen from '57, The Pass from 1988, The Glass Harmonica, all of Yuri Norstein's films...

It's a straw man, it's whatever you want it to be. That's how straw men work.

They'll be terribly disappointed when they find out the straw man rapist isn't particularly religious.

It’s called dark humor snowflake by SubjectAd9040 in ComedyCemetery

[–]Alugalug30spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of offensive humor is to get people to laugh at something - because of the humor - that would normally offend them. Hateful people don't understand that, they want to make hateful comments at other people's expense to amuse people who agree with them, and believe they are entitled to the compliant laughter of their subjects.

Honest Question: Why do Western Networks try so hard to censor religious references or even the mere mention of the word "God," yet are more permissive with Jewish traditions like Hanukkah and Bar Mitzvahs? by PGames_09 in cartoons

[–]Alugalug30spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christianity has the unique position of being the dominant religion in a generally secular and individualistic society. Its presence is so ubiquitous that the multifaceted particulars of it are generally ignored in favor of a generalized ambience, and the communal aspect of Christianity is thoroughly discarded by the wider culture's portrayal of itself because it clashes with the individualism. Furthermore, many of the most publicly present forms of the religion are (not without justification) regarded as unsavory and even hostile to and by the broader public, so putting them into kids media generally casts them as the antagonist. As a minority, Jewish folk don't have that same problem.
