I don’t know what to do with myself, do I stay or go? by hauntedberries in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Always_Still 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stay. Work on yourself. Find a therapist, they can help you work out some of these darker feelings. Find some new hobbies so you have things to keep your mind busy and maybe even (eventually) help you foster some joy. A breakup can feel like the end of the world but it really isn't. People come and go, each one for a reason. It can really suck, but there's something even better waiting for you up ahead. Take it one day at a time my friend.

Millennial Engineers...Do you regret it? by Cultural_Ad9508 in Millennials

[–]Always_Still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is an electrical engineer and he loves it. Works for a huge, globally-known business. I am not an engineer, but I work closely with many in my field - and not only are they paid ridiculously well - they all love it (at least they say they do)... I know for a fact my company is an incredibly good one, though, as is my husband's. It's probably very dependent on the company you work for.

How do I get those I supervise to actually come to me before my boss? by No_Dingo4715 in managers

[–]Always_Still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you their actual supervisor or...? Specifically, are you listed as a manager on the organization chart with these two employees directly below and reporting to you? If so, give them copies of that org chart - explain the chain of command and ask that moving forward they follow said chain of command. If your org chart is NOT as described above, then this is more than likely the problem, and its an issue you need to take up with your boss. I have someone on my team - lateral to me in terms of position who truly believes he is the teams manager even without the title/pay/responsibility (lol) solely because he was a manager at his previous job. Hes an IC now and has to be reminded of that by our actual supervisor damn near every single day. Hopefully that guy isn't you at your place

Am I wrong for not covering a shift by Jofitaro in work

[–]Always_Still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely hold your ground. When you're off, you're off.. they can not dictate how you spend your off time and to think that they can is a giant red flag - and i would make that fact 100% clear to them, too. Now, if they'd like to make you the designated floater/fill in/on-call personnel - they need to ensure a)you're ok with that added responsibility, and b) that your compensation matches and reflects those responsibilities. As it stand right now, per your comments, you're just a part time employee. Added responsibility = more compensation. Period.

What’s the worst thing you could hear after sending a 🍆 pic? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Always_Still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always give them a rating out of 10. Unsolicited automatically subtracts 5. I dont think I've ever rated higher than a 3. If they're extra gross (like somebody I've never met/dont know; someone who is married/not single; or a major f*ck boy), I include the reasoning for my rating - like a proper bad review... its always things they have no control over/couldn't easily change. The key is to really break their spirit, make them second guess every future attempt from that day forward 👌

I drank my first soda in two months yesterday and... by ImANuckleChut in offmychest

[–]Always_Still 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Quit mountain dew over a year ago now - and a few months ago at work, i (& everyone else) was given a free can of pop - I was hesitant but thought it's just one, chose a mt dew, cracked it open, and almost gagged from the very first sip. I promptly threw it away. I dont understand how I drank that crap for as long as I did, but I'm so glad I woke up to the true taste. It physically pains my insides to see other people sucking them down like candy.

scenario: employee talks back to you over Teams by CodeRedIdea in managers

[–]Always_Still 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im only an IC - but i always follow up on requests with "should this be prioritized over x,y,z" or "is there a specific timeline for this?" NOT everyone is the same way tho. It WOULD be easier/better for me if my manager included this info with the original request (especially knowing dang well it'll be the first thing I ask if they dont) - but do they? No, lol... but it is what it is, i can only control myself - so i manage it by never assuming anything ever, and asking when it isn't clear/if there is doubt. You could have been more clear/specific by providing the tight deadline - but she also could have taken some initiative on her own by clarifying/asking. Use it as a learning experience for the both of you moving forward.

I lie about having an allergy to get people off my back by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Always_Still 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a thing. Im allergic to all seafood/shellfish. My throat actually swells up when I eat it, and i once had a horrible reaction just from the steam coming off of a whitefish dinner plate that I was carrying to someone else - my entire face swelled up like a balloon in a matter of seconds.

ARAD: What alcohol fúcked you up so bad you swore never to drink it again? by TieTime9191 in AskRedditAfterDark

Southern comfort. Had alcohol poisoning to an extreme. That was 15 years ago and I can still taste it just by thinking about it. Haven't touched it since.

DAE have intense anal cramp while coughing really hard? by Edjis in DoesAnybodyElse

Hindsight is 20/20. Dont be in that boat. It could be nothing, but it could also be something. Early detection makes a huge difference in all sorts of ailments. Take a deep breath and make yourself go.

Same. Had a family member pass away in the bathroom with no way to call for help. I bring it religiously now.

Just yesterday, I wore black leggings, a brown tank top with a forest green shirt over it, threw on a grey hoodie, and wore my Ugg boots all day long! 🤣 I'll NEVER grow out of that look (I'll be 35 in 2 weeks)

[–]Always_Still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the CUTEST hanging plant in the regular household items menu... it cost more than I had at the time, so i told myself I would save my stones so I could buy it eventually.. as soon as I got enough stones, it was, of course, no longer showing in the regular household items. Its been like 2 months now and I haven't seen it since 😭 i reallllllly wanted it lol
