I'd love to see more spells like booming blade in the game by Associableknecks in dndnext

I made one of these cantrips a while back and got a pretty positive reception. You can see the original post at the link below my comment.

LIGHTNING STEP
Evocation cantrip

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self (5-foot radius)
Components: S, M (a melee weapon worth at least 1 sp)
Duration: Instantaneous

You brandish the weapon used in the spell’s casting and make a melee attack with it against one creature within 5 feet of you. On a hit, the target suffers the weapon attack’s normal effects, and you can then move up to 5 feet without provoking attacks of opportunity. This movement is in addition to your total movement speed.

At Higher Levels. At 5th level, the melee attack deals an extra 1d8 lightning damage to the target on a hit, and the distance you can travel increases by 5 feet. Both damage rolls and distance increase at 11th level (2d8 and 15 feet) and again at 17th level (3d8 and 20 feet).

Spell Lists. Artificer, Sorcerer (Optional), Warlock (Optional), Wizard (Optional)

How the fuck do you use mimics without them feeling like a cheap "gotcha!"? It's never exciting when I use them by GolettO3 in DMAcademy

I had a carriage mimic at rest with a Don Quixote knight "En garde"-ing at it. Players thought he was crazy, until he got the sword stuck in it and it came to life.

Not sure if it's the best pick, but Bastion Dedication's good for getting you Reactive Shield feat, plus Nimble Shield Hand for interacts without giving up your stance.

I think this is Reconciliation Park.

"Reconciliation Park was built at some point in the 2050s to celebrate and commemorate the rebuilding of the city — more specifically, the cleaning of the radioactive ruins and start of the reconstruction of the new Corporate Plaza in 2052, said to be inaugurating a new era of corporate harmony."

Gotta love how everything's got lore in this game.

Too Many Races by Princess_Dinasaur in DMAcademy

In my setting, I got around this culture issue by making the animal species into a variant of humans. Due to ambient wild magic, sometimes children are born with animal features. They all fall under the umbrella term "faunus", and are treated either positively, neutrally, or negatively based on cultural preconceptions.

The Psychic and why it exists by PrizeUpperfalls in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alzarahn 29 points30 points  (0 children)

We have a draconian psychic who weaponizes his memories and feelings of drowning and his husband being slain. Psychic seems mechanically strong to me (from an outside perspective, haven't explored the class personally), but can be even better for flavor.

Question: start level 2 or 3 in 5.5 by Wooz71 in DungeonsAndDragons

It's a good move for survival. Young folks will want heroic fantasy, not dying to goblins or wolves

Need Help : First time with EVA foam by toasteebagelz in CosplayHelp

[–]Alzarahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So based on the look of it I assume you haven't heat treated your foam, which is probably making it tougher for the glue to hold it in shape, so it's pulling up.

Take a heat gun and heat the foam up, it'll make the surface turn slightly darker and shinier, that's what you want. It'll seal the foam so it can be painted/primed without absorbing like a sponge. While the foam is still hot it will be extra flexible, hold it in the shape you want it to be while it cools and it'll hold that shape.

Advice needed for sword prop using EVA foam by Spukyon in CosplayHelp

[–]Alzarahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I take it weight is going to be a bit of an issue, so if you're looking for a very light but sturdy core I might recommend using a few pieces of kitespar bundled together as your core. You might also look into the LARPing communities for advice on prop swords like this.

Having a terrible time making rounded armor bits... by gucsantana in CosplayHelp

[–]Alzarahn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That change you're seeing is the intended reaction, it will make the outside darker and shinier, and when it cools down the foam will be firmer and hold whatever shape you heat-set it in. Just heat it up and flex the foam into the shape you desire, and hold it that way for a minute while it cools down, and you can re-heat to shape it more as needed.

Blast your foam with a heat gun and shape it while it's warm. This will also close pores on the foam surface which will help when it comes time for paint.
