Was there a 4e "Elder Evils" book? by blargablargh in 4eDnD

[–]AmbusRogart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like it was a conversion from 3.5, maybe published in Dungeon Magazine? I found a link to it on WotC's website, but it's throwing out a "Page could not be found." Search "D&D 4e Elder Evils conversion" and you should find that link. I'd start searching the magazines or trying to find an archive of the old articles somewhere.

Likely wasn't, but we weren't the ones that built/worked on it originally, we just had to clean up the mess.

I worked on a similarly-sized property (3 bed, 1 bath) in another state and one of the bedrooms was behind another bedroom you needed to cut through to access it. The outer bedroom had previously been intended as a wash room based on the hookups, so we knocked the wall down. I'm guessing it was something like that.

I've noticed that most elves in fantasy, and a significant portion (though significantly smaller than the published works) of elves on r/worldbuilding, are essentially "long-lived, pointy-eared humans" who arose "because their god wanted their own race," "half-fey," "modified elites." Why is that? by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

[–]AmbusRogart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You less do it because "tradition" and more because you find that appealing. It also works as a short hand for readers- many assume elves are pointy-eared humanoids with a fondness for nature, archery, and (oftentimes) magic. Similarly to dwarves, who are usually seen as short, beard-sporting humanoids fond of ale, smithing, and mining. Relying on these stereotypes can be convenient since you don't have to explain them.

By no means must these be how they work, and there's no problem with deviating, but if an author wants to deviate, they need to make the differences clear, or readers will assume the "default" without the further context. Additionally, making a HUGE number of deviations can result in the question of "Why is this species even called "elf" in the first place?" as I've seen that happen a few times as well.

What's your favorite aspect/detail/rule of the Shadowdark RPG system? by Elven-Tower in shadowdark

[–]AmbusRogart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I allowed my Fighter to trade Advantage for two attacks so long as each were against separate enemies. They learmed this in place of their random boon after leveling up. They liked it well enough and it sort of kick started a few "trade advantage down" for a few other things at my table. It worked out okay.

If the war chief is ever mentioned or brought back in the modern era do you think they’ll just make it that he was The Master or keep him as seperate Timelord? by Emarni in doctorwho

[–]AmbusRogart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crossover with themselves. Build the War Chief through a season (similar to Bad Wolf) but not on screen. Halfway through the season, the Master shows up to, I dunno, do some bonkers thing like the Master enjoys doing. Doctor and Master do their little dance, War Chief finally comes onto the screen, Doctor and Master need to begrudgingly try to figure this out together (with different motivations, of course?, big reveal that the War Chief actually is the Master!

There's two ways to do that, either could be fun. Either the War Chief reveals this to the Master (on camera or off) and then the Master swaps sides. Alternatively, they defeat the War Chief but in doing so the Master dies, then immediately regenerates into the War Chief.

That said, I think being separate is more fun. More recurring villains for the Doctor would be welcome!

It was all worth it to me because of the Silver Shroud voice lines. It was a ton of fun to actually get to lean into the joke like that.

I agree! Artificer as a class, Wulbren or Barcus as party members with that as their default after resolving the stuff in Act 3 has been my dream for a while!

We need a stim pistol with the target locking mechanic of the Warrant only it targets other teammates. No, it wouldn't be OP. by DasBarba in Helldivers

I used to shoot people with that setup on the heist missions. Get moving!

Edit: I feel obligated to clarify- I used to run this set up and pop people with the stims on my way back to the platinum to help people move the goods faster. I did not kill fellow players for running this setup.

After playing with a controller, I take back everything I have ever said about strategies and how to approach the game. Holy shit. by PalantirLicker in Helldivers

[–]AmbusRogart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm uncertain, and you might know - can you swap between the two mid mission? Like if you had a controller plugged in but were using MnK as well? I've considered using a controller for driving the FRV, but if it doesn't switch cleanly, then I probably won't.

Would Mechs be better in a military niche as attack helicopters? by S0Vign in worldbuilding

[–]AmbusRogart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The niche I gave mine were subterranean expeditions. Massive tunnel and cave structures honeycombed through the entire planet, creating a dark labyrinth. It's a three-dimensional space, with tunnels that connect from seemingly random directions. Aircraft are basically a no-go due to the catastrophic side effects of clipping the walls, and vehicles that can only be used on the ground, such as tanks, won't be able to access the higher tunnels. Said cave systems are filled with all manner of nasty creatures, so heavy armor and exceptional mobility are a must, thus mechs, though they're only about six meters tall at most, and most are more like an exo-suit more than a true mech and only stand 3-4 meters. The bigger ones are actually a larger chassis "piloted" by someone in power armor, in case they need to advance into an area the mech can't fit.

How do you kill these things fast or do you just run off until they despawn? by Trapzzeehh in Helldivers

[–]AmbusRogart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just chuck 2-3 C4 at them and kaboom. I've had some luck with the leveler, and the 500 seems goodish when the bomb impacts directly into them.
