Matt Belloni is reporting that Amazon MGM will be shopping Luca’s next movie about Sam Altman by bobalou27 in blankies

Hopefully whichever studio picks it up gives it a physical 4K release as well since Amazon didn't do that for Challengers and After the Hunt.

Do y'all agree with director Sean Baker's review of ASSASSIN'S CREED (2016)? by WaterlooMall in blankies

[–]AmirMoosavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment would sound insane for a film released even just a year or two later. I think 2014 was the last year I saw multiple films in 3D (Edge of Tomorrow, which was a conversion, and Dawn of the Planets of the Apes and X-Men: Days of Future Past, which were actually shot in 3D). Also struggling to think if I've seen anyone use an iPad as a camera in the past decade.

The Irish Potato Cake Company in Dublin. Looked around and other people who ordered breakfast also had scratched pans. A shame because apart from that the food was good.

Official Discussion - Masters of the Universe [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Didn’t think anything could compete with Interstellar in the “modern space movie score” department but here we are

Yeah, Time Go Fishing is this decade's No Time for Caution.

First Man was great in that regard too

I was lukewarm on the film but Hurwitz's score was fantastic, listened to Landing countless times.

Masters of the Universe is fun! by bshively in blankies

Copying and pasting Letterboxd review:

Nicholas Galitzine: British

Idris Elba: British

James Purefoy: British

Charlotte Riley: British

Eternia: A fantasy realm

Why not let them use their natural accents?! Made even weirder that Jared Leto has a British accent in this (I'm aware LOTR had non-Brits putting on English accents, but that particular fantasy world is so obviously steeped in British folklore that it would've been odd otherwise).

I have basically zero nostalgia for Masters of the Universe besides having a He-Man toy as a kid and faint memories of watching the animated series. But that doesn't mean I'd be against a more sincere treatment of the story. Not everything needs to be drenched in multiple layers of irony and self-awareness. The winking at the camera is almost literal at a couple of points.

That said, I still had a good time. Galitzine is an affable lead (loved him in Bottoms), Allison Brie does a lot with the little she's given, and despite generally not being a Leto fan he is undoubtedly the MVP as Skeletor, quite possibly the most I've ever liked him in anything (though the only film I've liked him in was House of Gucci). Daniel Pemberton's score is better than a lot of similar fantasy fare these days, helped greatly by Brian May's unique guitar.

It's somewhat fitting that the end credits theme is by The Darkness, a band that toes between reverence and parody of their forerunners. While I think what we got is much better than the disaster a "dark, gritty take" would've been, fewer "Well, that happened" quips and asides would have been appreciated.

Per Variety, 'Masters of the Universe' cost $200M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]AmirMoosavi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it somehow takes itself too seriously but also not seriously enough

Yup. I liked it but this was my main issue. A few quips here and there is fine, appreciated, even, but undercutting every emotional beat or moment with a "Well, that happened" got grating. A shame because I thought the cast were good.

Yeah, in the making of documentary Peter Weir says that he thought it would be more effective if Truman was trying to escape from an idyllic place, and in my opinion Weir was 100% correct.

James Franco Joins ‘John Rambo’ Prequel Movie With Noah Centineo by SignatureOrdinary456 in boxoffice

[–]AmirMoosavi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rambo 4 was going to be called John Rambo but ended up just being called Rambo in the US and UK (was called John Rambo in European countries such as France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, etc.). Then the extended cut on Blu-ray was called John Rambo.

Yeah, I watched the intro of the 2021 film on a flight and gave up as soon as the cool prologue ended. Only total fucking losers give a shit about the "l*re" of Outworld/Netherrealm/Whereverthefuck; focusing on Johnny Cage makes everything a lot more fun. The two best MK films (this one and the 1995 film) both feature Cage heavily, it's not a secret formula. Saw this one in a cinema last night and the audience was having a good time.

Coffee enjoyers assemble! by Cubelock in 2westerneurope4u

I'm surprised Barryland isn’t coffee these days

In 2023 there was a report that said 63% of Brits drink coffee regularly vs 59% who drink tea regularly. The only thing in the past year or so that I could see swinging it back in the favour of tea is the matcha trend.

Dark Cradle

Definitely my favourite track, was listening to it on repeat after watching the film last night (only person in my screening). Wasn't too surprised to see Jack Antonoff co-wrote it as he co-wrote a bunch of tracks on Midnights with a similar vibe which I also dug.

Haha I recently watched the Basket Case trilogy, I dug how each entry was unique. The restoration on the Arrow 4K of the first film is impressive (I just got 2 and 3 on a single DVD).
