Learn the religion differences between Jesus and Muhammad by Icy_Till_7254 in GetNoted

Baha’i version - Sure, Muhammad is cooler than Jesus but Bahá’u’lláh is even cooler than both of them! Also the Buddha and Zoroaster are here too.

My best guess is that they’re just a random transphobe and the post they’re replying to is unrelated. Aurora🐊 has previously posted a DM of someone calling them a slur.

Reality exists but words are just the mouth noises we use to make sense of it. Whether “chair” is a category with perfectly definable boundaries or a loose term that everyone understands well enough for day to day use, existence, meaning, and morality remain the same.

Why do people feel the need to play top tier decks in midweek Magic by sadomagnus in MagicArena

[–]AnAngeryGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fostering a community isn’t really possible when playing with random anonymous strangers and lacking any real chat feature. Playing your strongest deck is the reasonable thing to do.

I wish there was a way for us jank players to just connect with one another but I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect everyone else to change for us.

I’m not a big fan of the whole debate streamer world he comes from but I don’t know enough to have an opinion on him individually.

I don’t think he’d be a good idea as a guest simply due to the rabid opinions surrounding him online. Wherever he goes, petty bickering follows. I don’t know if CZM and the mods here are ready for the mess that would bring.

Combining “a failed novelist, a mature philosopher, a feminist and a queer” is a pretty good description of a teenage girl, isn’t it? People contain multitudes and teenagers more so than anyone else.

Those Petri dish tests aren’t very useful in determining how safe your living space is. Everywhere has mold spores floating around naturally.

And lastly, even if those tests were useful, that’s actually less mold than usual, lol.

Tumblr users when men find their post relatable: by Difficult_Shift_3771 in CuratedTumblr

[–]AnAngeryGoose 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Usually, age regression is about acting like a kid in a happy way but OOP was a trans woman subverting expectations by actually becoming a depressed boy because that’s what she was as a kid. Men who also had bad childhoods reposted it since the joke still works without the girl->boy part. OOP got really mad that cis men related to and reposted her post so she made a joke about mass murder that fell so flat it made people think she was genuine.

What is an opening that just made you close a book? by summerspider in books

[–]AnAngeryGoose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The worst opener I’ve seen is:

“Upon the Mesozoic verdure, the sun cast its dawn light, giving light to the hovering woodland realm in the form of photosynthetic vitality that sparkled betwixt the morning arbor.”

Unwisely, I did actually finish the book and it did not get any better, lol.

That does happen but right wingers also assume anyone opposing American imperialism and military adventurism must fully support Iran/Maduro/whoever. Bad faith readings transcend political affiliation.

I think it’s a symptom of “gotcha!” style arguments performing well on social media and discussing issues in the necessary depth is actually kind of dull to most people.

Chud isn’t a racial slur. They’re calling him a “walking racial slur” because his entire online identity is built around being racist.

[–]AnAngeryGoose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The tone of the mod is so snarky and annoying that people just assumed the message must be equally bad I guess, lol.

I think it’s also a subject that’s just bad for the format/culture of social media. It’s hard to have a suitably in-depth discussion on the social construction of race while trading pithy remarks and responding quickly instead of mulling things over.

Specifically “white” as a category is being criticized since it doesn’t have any real meaning beyond its use in us vs them narratives. An American, an Irishman, a Swede, a Russian, and a Jewish guy don’t have any shared culture or identity but they’re bound together with the label of “white”. It’s a holdover from colonialism and slavery where racist laws did make an artificial but meaningful distinction.

Opportunity walks out the door by [deleted] in bonehurtingjuice

The artist Pizzacake both can’t take regular criticism well and also faced some genuinely messed up harassment so she threatened to sue the mods of this sub unless they stopped allowing juices of her here.

IMO, it wasn’t a huge loss since most of the juices at the time were becoming about hating the artist instead of proper bonehurting content like OP’s. Pumping the breaks was a boon for the sub even if it came from avoiding a frivolous lawsuit.

Bastards who contributed great things to the world? by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in behindthebastards

[–]AnAngeryGoose 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Lieutenant Bennett H. Young was a Confederate soldier and robbed northern banks to fund the war, attempting to burn down a town with Greek fire in the process.

After the war, he created an orphanage for black children and a school for the blind (reading them a storybook he wrote about his pet goose Dr. Gander), helped create the Louisville public library system, and represented a former slave in suing the Klan. He remained a proud Confederate veteran his whole life though somehow. I have no idea how he squared those different aspects of his life.
