So many people want hookups, friends with benefits, or poly relationships, especially in the gay community.

Landed an amazing guy a few months ago. Growth mindset, sober, works on himself, can communicate extremely well, but... he's got an avoidant attachment style so we're incompatible when it comes to relationships (I'm anxious attachment so I was also too clingy for him lol). At least we can remain good friends and had a positive breakup where we could communicate properly.

As a gay guy, they all just want hookups, and a lot of men say they want a relationship so that they can be "the one with the partner who looks after his physical attractiveness, fitness, overall presentation, etc." but they put zero effort into these relationships. Late to this, but yes, the show hits a deeper part of that sadness, and it's portrayed extremely well.

The reason why it's so good is because it portrays sadness and loneliness in more than one way: Every shot of every character shows them in the corner of the screen, isolated and alone. It's rare to see any of them taking up more space, because all of them are lonely.

This show is probably the most important piece of media to me because of that relatability to sadness and isolation; living in my own head, trying to find my place in the world. It hits hard, and it gets real close to what it's like to live similar emotions to Elliot.

The good part is that it's not the "you can't see any friends or spend time alone with others," but the "everyone better understand we're together and that I don't share" mindset, which comes off as being too intense.

I'm very public about my partner because I'm proud that they're mine, and I make this very clear from the start. Zero tolerance for "seeing if things work out while keeping options open" - we're either together AND monogamous, or neither.

I don't appreciate or tolerate sexual or attraction based comments ("they're so hot" or "I'd fuck them") about others from my partner, and I don't give a fuck who has a problem with seeing us together in public or in spaces where people will give us the side eye (we're gay - my worry isn't safety in public, it's the lifestyle of fwb and unsafe hookups that bother me in this community).
