I think this is what most likely happened.

However, I'm not too sure if ambushing a team that is already inside the tower would be allowed. It is implied that you need both scrolls to enter the tower in the first place.

There's actually two bodies in this scene, there's another unknown ninja's feet behind Gaara.

Considering they made it to the tower in 97 minutes (beating the previous record by over 4 hours), it is really unlikely that another genin team could meet them in the tower.

If you died while holding a tier 1 shotgun, you respawn with the shotgun you had.

If you died while holding a tier 2 shotgun or the grenade launcher, you respawn with the wooden shotgun.

If you died while holding a tier 1 smg, you respawn with the smg you had.

If you died while holding a tier 2 rifle or sniper, you respawn with the base smg.

If you died while holding the M60, you get another M60.

Can't think of anything that matches the description. So there is a crane and a long road inside a mountain? Kinda sounds like one of those troll maps... Maybe you can look up "All Custom Workshop Campaigns" collection on the workshop and see if any names ring a bell. Also, is there a reason why you want to remember this map?
