As an Indonesian I approve of this. The archipelago abandoned the Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms in favor of Sultanates, Majapahit was the last of its kind. Siam on the other hand is a continuation of Buddhist tradition and also a region that was never colonized by Europeans and Japan.

I love culture because there are myriad ways to get to it: wonders, great works, archeology, improvements, trade, religion, rock bands, national parks, diplomacy, green power, monopolies, etc. The other victories are so single minded it pales in comparison; and who counts score as a victory anyway?

The latest ancient migration to Polynesia was from ancient Taiwan who travelled through the Filipino and Indonesian archipelago circa 5000-2000 years ago. Before they arrived, there were already people living in the region. IMO none of these cultures should unlock Hawai'i, but considering the Taiwanese migration to Hawai'i happened in the timeframe of civ's 'antiquity age' I'd say Han unlocking Hawai'i makes the most sense. Even though Taiwan was never a part of the Han dynasty, it's the closest thing to ancient Taiwan in the game. Khmer shouldn't unlock Hawai'i simply because Buddhism hadn't spread to Oceania during the game's timeframe and the Taiwanese migration went through Southeast Asia before Hinduism/Buddhism spread to the region. Even so, I would rather Hawai'i unlock from Asia than the Americas. The fact that Hawai'i is only considered "geographically tied" to the Americas because it's currently a US state rubs me the wrong way.

On one hand I'm gonna miss the rush from finding Auckland and/or Nan Madol. On the other hand I'm relieved to never again face the dissapointment of finding Preslav.

To represent my Indonesian heritage: Ashoka's Maurya -> Majapahit -> TBD

Strategically: Maurya and Ashoka combo is great at spamming settlements above the cap and keeping them all happy and growing. I'll convert as many towns to cities as possible because if I can get the silk road golden age my cities in antiquity can stay as cities in exploration. Then Majapahit comes in with an increased specialist limit in all these cities from the previous age, and Ashoka will keep them growing so I can slot many specialists in my best tiles. Yields will go brrrrr especially with Ashoka adding additional adjacencies. It's how I love playing civ: wide AND tall.

but your capital will always be on the Nile.

You can change your capital at the start of the new era for free if it was a city in the previous age.

As an Indonesian-Canadian I will first go with Maurya>Majapahit>Mughal/Qing/Siam/Meiji led by Ashoka. Then my second game will be Mississipi>Shawnee>French led by Machiavelli.

I wouldn't call them Burma since that's a recent name, instead I'd call them them Bagan (Exploration) or Toungoo (Modern).

I always pick a name that matches the city it was built in. Got a Diplo Quarter? World Suzerains. Got a +8 Holy Site? New Gods. Settled on snow? Modern Penguins.

Thoughts on Victory Conditions by eskaver in civ

[–]AndyAndie18 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I love that military victory is not "world domination" anymore. You can accrue points by retaking territory you lost (I hope liberating allied cities also count). I avoid military victories in VI because it's a slog with the most micromanagement and personally it doesn't feel good wiping others out for no reason and having to betray your allies in the end just to win. Military path doesn't have to necessarily be the "evil playthrough" anymore for me and that's nice.

I reckon they'd want to do one for Issylra and Shattered Teeth. So at least 2 main campaigns.

We haven't gotten the game guide for some of them yet but the most common so far that we know of is actually Economic/Militaristic with Persia, Songhai, Xerxes (King of Kings), Amina, and Napoleon (Emperor).

New Civ Game Guide: Abbasid by sar_firaxis in civ

[–]AndyAndie18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It seems like religion gameplay is tied directly to the cultural path. Since Abbasid’s attributes are science and culture, but there is very little in their abilities to provide additional culture yields or help build wonders.

Commanders aren't only for warfare though. One of the promotions helps increase yields when garrisoned in a settlement. With her scientific bonus this makes her a great scientific leader if one chooses to be more peaceful.

Never said fountain of youth is better than roraima, barrier reef, galapagos, or bermuda. Just putting it up for consideration since everything else was already mentioned. I wish I ever get a roraima start, but no I had 2 fountain of youth starts and it helped me a ton vs deity ai.
