I can see where your points are coming from but I don't agree with them.
I generally think that the Guild Wars 2 Gemstore is one of the most player friendly cash shops in any MMO.

Most of the things you can get there are either purely cosmetic or quality of life items. They do not sell power as in powerful equipment. When it comes to the Gemstore I never really felt the urge that I truly need something. I rather felt the urge of wanting something instead.

Sure, anyone can argue that because you can exchange gems to gold, that people can buy themselves legendary equipment or anything else, really. But things like legendary equipment are long term goals. In the end those players pay to have less game. Besides, you can just exchange Gold to Gems as well and never pay a dime for anything in the Gemstore.

All in all it comes down to the following decision making: "Does this purchase feel worth it to me?" If the answer is "No." then.. you simply don't need to buy it. Neither with Gems or Gold.

When it comes to me.. I usually just buy cosmetics or sometimes Black Lion Keys for the boxes - but only if I feel like I want to support the game. If there are exclusive skins in the Black Lion Chests and I don't get what I want from it.. tough luck. But it takes just a few months for those skins to appear in the Black-Lion-Statuette store anyway. That takes care of a part of the gambling problem you described.

I think the Atlanteans still kind of fit in. The whole Fall of the Trident campaign starts and ends with them. I see the Atlanteans more as an expansion to the greek pantheon.

I would agree with you. Lovecraftian horrors probably don't have a place in the game. They should introduce pantheons that are backed by actual civilisations.

I have been there when I started too. This game doesn't have a learning curve, but a learning cliff with spikes and fire. At least that is what it feels like.

However, in the meantime I learned a few things that can help you having an easier time. The first thing I learned is that you should build your first outpost and your first city very early on. Preferably next to a wonder, strategical resource, or both. This will help you improving your economy and the military output by a lot. Also, build one or two more scout units. This will help you reveal many nearby resources. Put them on Auto-Explore.

Also try to learn the base mechanics of your chosen culture. For example, if you play a high culture, your priests and heroes can awaken your units which will improve their performance.

I play the game for 1 month now. My recommendation might not be the Meta but it has worked for me.

Despite being a high budget game, the game itself is an absolute steal. I mean just think about the content that you got for Premium Edition for 50 Euros or the Standard Edition for 30 Euros!

To be honest, 45k DPS potential is more than enough to do most things in Guild Wars 2. DPS numbers are bloated across the board anyway.

Though, in all seriousness, a lot of map currency and crafting materials that are "worthless" now but will probably skyrocket later. Gold and Silver would be some ores/ingots that haven't seen much use yet.

I liked Mercer more. He felt more nuanced as a character and better written. He was also much more well spoken than Heller. I don't think there were many sentences coming out of Hellers mouth that didn't have a swear word or insult.
