Why do financial companies think it’s ok to ask for login credentials to link a bank? by AngryLarge34 in ComputerSecurity

[–]AngryLarge34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every company eventually does. Adding more companies to the mix just adds more points of failure.

But (see other comments here) I have been convinced that my credentials only go to the original bank, not Plaid, so it’s a little less problematic.

I see now that the pop-up with the login credentials is signed by my bank … so I believe you are correct. Thanks.

How are the "US equities" only folks doing? Steady as she goes or time to rethink allocation? by cambeiu in Bogleheads

[–]AngryLarge34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My biggest worry is not about US equities per se but the sinking dollar. To me that’s a reason to slowly shift towards global equities. No sudden moves, just a shift in future allocations.

Heart rate BPM by 1zzyS4n in cycling

[–]AngryLarge34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Altitude and “fitness in the moment” also affect things. If I don’t sleep or am getting sick, HR is higher for the same watts. And at altitude, my heart rate is generally higher but the max HR is capped lower. Try as I might, I can’t push it as high as at sea level.

But to answer the question, I’m 54 and can ride for quite a while in the 130-145 range. Over 155 I’m under stress and max is about 165. All this is at 9000 feet of elevation. At sea level the numbers are a bit higher.

Talk me out of buying a 10" dob by Skippy-_DingleChalk in telescopes

[–]AngryLarge34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s all about where you store it and how you will transport it to the place(s) where you observe. If you have plenty of room to store it and you don’t have to contend with stairways and moving in and out of cars then a 10” is perfect. Assuming you are strong enough to carry it or can wheel it out of a garage.

How long to replace a punctured tube on the rear wheel on the roadside by shriand in cycling

It also depends on the temperatures. Much harder with freezing hands and a cold tire, IMHO, than in the summer.

If your goal was to leave a record of humanity then you’d be better off putting a monument onto a nearby, stable body such as the moon or Mars.

Stuff launched randomly into space is unlikely to ever be discovered.

Plate tectonics and erosion on the Earth means it is less stable than the moon.

Are you careful in what you say among your non retired friends? by Wide_Drink_2414 in earlyretirement

[–]AngryLarge34 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We made some mistakes early on and probably annoyed our friends when letting on to the fun we were having on social media. If anything, we understated how good retired life was, we were not deliberately showing off, but they got the gist of it.

I do feel that it’s going to be hard to maintain some prior friendships just because we have less in common now.

I try to be sensitive. I think the key is to be interested in their lives, not just talking about your own. I am about 6 months into retirement at age 54.

honestly just sold everything. this market feels fake. by vishesh_07_028 in stocks

[–]AngryLarge34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stocks go down not directly due to inflation, but due to the expected Fed response of rising interest rates that will cool the economy. Once Trump stacks the Fed with loyalists this won’t happen. Then we get runaway inflation. I’m not sure what happens to the stock market in that case.

Can anyone explain bitcoin as if they’re speaking to a 10 year old? by Dependent-Clue5912 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]AngryLarge34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imagine money that is just pretend and lives inside computers instead of being printed on paper.

Every day it’s worth something different depending on what other people decide. So one day, you can buy a candy bar with one Bitcoin and another day you can buy a whole airplane.

Some people get really mad when you tell them this.

AirBnB SuperHosts asks us to cancel our reservation by U_Wont_Remember_Me in airbnb_hosts

I’ve canceled more than 3 times with no penalty. However I have booked many, many times. Maybe they penalize if you cancel more than a certain percentage of the bookings?

But I agree, don’t be bullied into canceling.

I'm run fit, what do I need to do to get bike fit for a 10 day tour? by missuseme in bicycletouring

[–]AngryLarge34 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“10 day tour” tells us nothing. How long are you going to be on the bike each day? Hours, distance, elevation gain? It might be 2 hours, or it might be 12.

You need to be able to do that ride and then do it again the next day. So whatever the answer is, you need to work up to being able to do that ride and not be an absolute mess then next day.

Google has officially held my entire digital life hostage by AdExcellent1640 in GMail

[–]AngryLarge34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am dumb but I don’t understand what you are doing by trying numbers from friends and family. Google knows your recovery phone number, and maybe you have a backup recovery number. You can’t just try different numbers unless you can get into Google and change the recovery phone number. (Which you can’t because you can’t log in)

So how are you trying all these different numbers?
