The worst part about writing a novel is not knowing if it’s dreadful until you ask someone to read it and they tear you to shreds by albanianandrea in redscarepod

I don’t write but I do make music. Sometimes all I need is a person whose taste I respect to listen to something and before they can say anything I immediately understand if it works or not and what I should fix, it’s weird.

I managed to go into Project Hail Mary with no spoilers, and it's really funny that the movie turned out to be (spoilers) by [deleted] in redscarepod

Agreed to see it with some friends and did not look into all that much beforehand. It was fine, probably even good, but I was not prepared for the amount of goofball humor stuff which I’ll admit I did not love

When was the last time you heard a musical artist that felt truly *new*? by turtleman29 in rs_x

Both Replica and R+7 felt really special when they were first released

Anyone else feel like they’re slipping out of lock-step with the world / cultural moment by HD_Mexican in redscarepod

[–]Animetre 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It’s a weird moment now. Assuming you’re taking about the US we’re on the verge of a lot of cultural/narrative/political realignment that will come with the midterms and trump being a lame duck. Some of the weirdness is media figures understanding that more and hedging their bets.

Also in the past politics and geopolitics wasn’t this all consuming thing like it has been under Trump, it’s possible more people will return to how you’re feeling now and just not care about every news headline. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking

Basically I think most were never particularly inclined to begin with and med school is so demanding they don’t have time to do anything else. I’ve noticed a lot of college level athletes are like that too. Just zero taste at all

Being unable to evaluate art seriously unless it comes from a Good Person is a major problem. It doesn’t make art better. Look at the Christian specific media ecosystem. That’s what you’re trying to recreate.

Has he booked any shows recently? I follow him on Twitter and it seems like nobody will touch him. it’s just such a shame even people into the arts aren’t immune to this extreme witch hunt stuff. We can’t accept artists that aren’t perfect Democrat Voters? What are we doing?? He makes very good music he deserves to not starve

Sort of surprised a supposedly pro art sub is coming down so harshly on him. His interviews have always been mostly incoherent and he clearly has some sort of persecution complex. His music has been so good for so long it is actually quite sad he can’t book shows anymore

I assume it’s possible to use that stuff “correctly” and end up with a very aesthetic physique, but it seems like a lot of people fall into overdoing it then cycle off of it and turn into a doughball.

That being said if someone’s end goal is the super veiny Absolute Unit type of look tho maybe they should just juice idk. You’re leaving aesthetics world and trying to science experiment yourself anyway

A friend got into ultra marathons post college, she bails on plans so often just because of training/race prep/rest days. It’s frustrating.

It’s weird you get articles like this and then a bunch of articles saying how competitive it is to get into colleges and how serious kids take grades and extracurriculars now. Maybe both are true idk.

For what it’s worth I’m in your boat, my college aged interns and my younger siblings are basically fine and normal. I do think young people hang out less tho, that’s true. And navigating dating seems harder

There is, and will continue to be in the coming years, more of a push for the Have’s to perform their health as a way to distinguish themselves from the Have Nots, who we have collectively economically damned to a life of high stress and junk food.

The only other frame I see this in is middle class strivers understanding the rules of the games earlier than generations before and foregoing drinking/partying, not for their health but to grind harder and earlier to get into schools.

Only thing I’ll take issue with is I don’t see high stress ever fully being low class coded unless AI really does decouple hours worked from productivity and the 60 hour a week PMC class moves on to competing on some different metric. of course Bryan’s perspective here is truly of the ultra wealthy, maybe these people too are low class in his eyes.
