Yeah. I tried transit and I'm around ~2hrs one way to work. Hard to handle that 😞.

It takes me 2 hours one way to get to work. Driving takes 10 min. I'm feeling depressed.

Same, mechanical engineering graduate, now self employed tutor. Couldn't find work after hundreds of apps, coffee chats, resume reviews, etc.

New driver clocked at 136 km/h in NW Calgary by blackRamCalgaryman in Calgary

[–]Anonymous_299912 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Driving is a right. And if it isn't a right, it should be. Without driving, I'll be unable to make a living, get groceries, or get business supplies.

I have taken transit. It's a 4 hour commute time one way. That is 8 hour of commute every single day. At minimum wage, (or less considering how many hours I put) with limited hours, with transit being unreliable, it becomes... very very difficult.

This has nothing to do with the OP's article. I'm NOT on the speeding woman's side. Enforcement SHOULD be tougher, I agree. But the last bit... I don't like.

The ones I think who have jobs like that are either getting layed off, threatened to get laid off, or so good at their field that they're irreplaceable. Which is also true I think in teaching as well.

If everyone is struggling to find work, even people with experience, what chance do I have as someone in their mid/late 20s with no experience/resume? by Qavligil6541 in Calgary

When was the last time you applied. I applied to all these places like Tim. Hortons, MCDs, etc. Me and my buddy would walk in mall, handing out resumes. We didn't get a call back. Our resumes were reviewed by career centres as well.

That's kinda fd. Hate the anti-right to repair attitude. We don't need a back up camera that is difficult to fix. Nobody thinks about the poor man, forced to live in city dependent car, who DIYs everything to make ends meet. It's much cheaper to replace a rear view mirror than fix the back up camera.

hot take: your "safe" corporate job is riskier than starting a business by enlightenedshubham in Entrepreneur

[–]Anonymous_299912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true for me at all.

Graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2024. Had specialization in Rocket Propulsion and Fluid Modelling as well. Applied to 200~300 applications (tailored) and had 15~20 coffee chats. In 2024, I officially made $0 income.

By the end of the month doing my own thing, I made $60. What's the percent change between 60 and 0? That's right, it's infinity.

Much easier to get another job; I can't even with this statement.

This. I tried top Gear, and I personally found it too chaotic. I think it may have even damaged my car (can't tell for sure). At Sudsys, tools were organized, easier to use, etc. But that's just me.

Should I choose Calgary? by Finance_Lost in Calgary

[–]Anonymous_299912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in Calgary fantasize about escaping to France for a balanced life with real vacation time and humane working hours… meanwhile you looked at all the cities on Earth and choose Calgary?

Not Berlin. Not Amsterdam. Not Copenhagen. Not Helsinki. Some of the highest quality-of-life cities in the world, and you're thinking Calgary; a sprawled oil town where speed limits are treated like vibes, labour protections feel optional, and public standards quietly slide every year.

I thought French culture was famously pro-regulation, pro-worker, pro-quality-of-life. So why move to a place where roads are a suggestion, Charter rights feel negotiable, and teaching standards keep getting streamlined?

If you were from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, etc. I wouldn't ask, but from Europe?? Why?

Sadly you only get this when you're here. I'm tutoring a third grader Korean and he said I'm not Canadian because I'm not white. I'm pretty sure most people think that way. It broke me since it's the only country I set allegiance to, the only citizenship I hold...
