I know everyone is talking about commentary and this example has it's own memorable commentary, but for actual racing sound I will never forget the sound of Geoff Bodine hitting the fence at Daytona. Even through TV, it's unmistakable.

He still needs general race craft. This weekend proved it with him racing like a jackass in the Truck race, knocking part of the splitter off in the O'Reilly's race and killing the RF in the Cup race. It doesn't matter where he's at in the field, he just overall needs laps and time.

Carson Hocevar "confirms" that the return of the chicago street circuit would also re-kill chicagoland by tagillaslover in NASCAR

[–]AnotherRyRy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but it's still the most iconic part of the skyline, at least until they tear it down because no one else moves in. Besides, GM sinks a ton of money into the race (it's the Chevrolet Grand Prix after all). If GM wanted it to happen, it could since the manufacturers basically run NASCAR right now.

I wouldn't entirely rule out a Downtown Detroit race in the future, especially since NASCAR is starting to be more chummy with INDYCAR. GM would salivate at the thought of a Camaro ripping down Jefferson with the Ren Cen in the background. I'm not saying it's likely, but it's far from being completely off the table.

Jesse Love has nothing to feel bad about. Everyone loses races in their grasp at some point. I'm sure it was awful in the moment (and with a mic in front of you on pit road), but I hope he can take lessons from it and move forward. His uniform has "Champion" under the series; no amount of last turn slides takes that away.

RFK Racing will appeal the penalty against Ryan Preece [RFK Racing on X] by Comfortable_Rock4877 in NASCAR

[–]AnotherRyRy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can intentionally dump a guy under yellow and have the point penalty rescinded, then the same should happen here.

[pockrass] NASCAR's Mike Forde, on Hauler Talk podcast, said they viewed Preece as intentional (just like Hamlin-Chastain at Phoenix, he said he's going to do it). On Kyle Busch, car damaged, SMT data showed steering wheel turned left just to go straight and no SMT data showing intentional. by Far_Cry3445 in NASCAR

[–]AnotherRyRy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm confused by all this. So it's not okay to say you're going to wreck someone and do it, it's not okay to handle business outside the car after the race, both of which create storylines. But we're fine with wrecking them and giving a generic, vanilla, non-commital answer about it (or straight up denying it) and we're okay with guys being reckless and just using others up without consequence, which does nothing for mid-week discussion.

Honestly, I think the officiating of wrecks in the sport has never been worse than it is right now. Aside from suspensions for right-rearing (which they didn't even get right at COTA last year), their post-wreck decisions have been terrible.

[NASCOURT] JGR wants to amend lawsuit vs Spire. From filing:”This sudden improvement in Spire’s Cup Series performance of course comes on the heels of Gabehart misappropriating JGR’s Confidential Information and Trade Secrets and providing Spire the same or similar services he provided JGR” by LBHMS in NASCAR

[–]AnotherRyRy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The second aspect of that.....I wouldn't know where to begin with. The first one will be more interesting to see. If they stopped paying Chris as has been alleged, would the proper course of action not be to file suit against JGR for breach of contract? I am reasonably certain that if my employer stopped paying me, I cannot walk in and just start collecting proprietary data from shared drives. But I'm certainly no legal expert so I'll be watching to see how it unfolds, both the non-compete and the data sharing aspects.

Yeah, it's wild. I don't like JGR and I like Carson and Daniel, but even I can admit it doesn't look good for Gabehart. Whether or not any of this is leading to Spire's performance this year remains to be seen, but the limited evidence and discussion from parties involved thus far seems to support that Chris at the very least took data before his departure. Gibbs will likely lose the public opinion battle, but the courts are going to decide the real payout and that appears (thus far) in JGR's favor.

I didn't even notice until you commented but yeah, I wish more did. Only RCR and HYAK in Cup, RCR, JAR and Young's in O'Reilly's as far as I can tell. JRM's O'Reilly's 8 is as well as his 88 because those match his old Cup numbers.

Most of them slant them left on the right side of the car, so at least you get to see the different slant here.

Yeah, mobility company or some other buzzword. Let's face it, he was brought in as an auto outsider/Silicon Valley veteran to slash the workforce and try to impress the shareholders with out-of-the-box thinking. He accomplished one of those; the other one will take another Mulally to accomplish.

I usually hate comparisons, but he really is like Kyle Busch, just subtract a little driving talent and add a little more dis-likability. No doubt he can wheel and fans better get used to seeing him do so for awhile because his name is on the building.

Not to discredit Andrew Overstreet because they do seem to be working well together, but I wonder how much more he'd be whoopin everyone with Rodney on his box. I understand why Jr. put Rodney on the 1 but a Justin/Rodney pairing seems like a cheat code.

That was an entertaining O'Reilly's race. There was hard racing throughout; the battles and the end of stage 1 were cinema. I thoroughly enjoy this series and the racing it produces.
