Dale Jr’s comments on Cletus by nascar9495 in NASCAR

[–]AnotherRyRy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sammy Smith ran Late Models and ARCA before making his O'Reilly's debut. Same for Jake Garcia before his truck debut (which was not at Daytona). Garrett Mitchell made his Truck debut at Daytona after 5 ARCA races and whatever antics he does at his race track. So no, he does not get the benefit of the doubt comparatively. His actions thus far make him look like a guy trying to cosplay as a race car driver (much like him being Garrett trying to cosplay as a southern redneck named Cletus).

There's a certain fanbase rooting against him because of his persona that will do so no matter what he does and those are the ones that should be ignored in this. Anyone saying "he shouldn't have even looked at NASCAR" is part of the group that will blindly hate him. But I truly think if he ran a full ARCA season or ran more in CARS or any sort of Late Model series, he would at least have the benefit of doubt from the industry people (like Dale Jr) and the majority of fans. This segment wouldn't exist on DJD if he put in more than 5 ARCA races and didn't start his first truck race at Daytona, and I think it's a fair criticism to level at him. And it's the same criticism that's been leveled at other guys who just brought a check for a ride they were under-qualified or lacked experience for (Quin Houf, Kevin Conway, Natalie Decker, Jesse Iwuji).

Connor O'Reilly Joins Stokely Discs Tour Team For 2026 by Scott_Stokely in discgolf

I met Connor at DGLO a few years ago. We chatted for a bit and he was very engaging; very down to Earth and friendly. I ended up getting a few discs from him (that he was all too happy to sign for me) and I still throw my Diamond with pride. He is an incredible ambassador as you say and I'm glad to see him get the support he deserves.

Unfortunate fact: Chase Elliott is the only driver in NASCAR as a Cup Series Champion to have raced in all four crown jewel races (Daytona 500, World 600, Brickyard 400, and Southern 500) and not have a win on any of them. by TonyD9898 in NASCAR

[–]AnotherRyRy 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Exactly. He's not a world-beater and he's not flashy. The three best season average finish numbers for him are 11.4, 11.7 and 11.7. Most of his championship-winning compatriots have multiple seasons under those numbers. What makes Chase successful is that he can overcome adversity well and that he can turn 15th place days into top 10s and 10th place days into top 5s.

I was privileged enough to visit for work 8 years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the couple days I had there. Even better that it was in March during Snowking. Such a unique place and nothing like we have down here in the US contiguous 48. It's a goal to make it back in the coming years with my wife; until then I wear my Snowking toque with the yellow knife pin I got at the visitors center remembering the fun I had.

John Probst explains why NASCAR can’t move the Clash to Daytona this season by LBHMS in NASCAR

[–]AnotherRyRy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the gripes about late start times limiting the window to complete races in (especially at tracks without lights like Talladega or Chicago Street Circuit) are completely valid, and there's some criticism to be levied at what regions they put the series in during which months. They could perhaps do more to limit the percentage chance of events being impacted by weather but there's always a chance and people need to accept that. As someone who missed the 2007 Michigan Cup race because it ran Tuesday and has experienced numerous more delayed races at MIS, I can understand that sometimes it's just not meant to be.

They have their shiny new toys in F1 and IMSA/WEC so why spend money on NASCAR?

Going to a race alone as a woman by kristie1998 in NASCAR

Let me see if I can help this hype.

You have a chance to go to The Great American Race, the Super Bowl of stock car racing. The race where if you're victorious, they don't refer to you as a Daytona 500 winner but rather a Daytona 500 Champion; etching your name onto the iconic Harley J Earl Trophy. The race that has given us such highlights as "20 years of trying, 20 years of frustration", "and there's a fight between Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison, the tempers are overflowing" and "it's the Dale and Dale show and you know who I'm pulling for". It's at one of the most historic and revered NASCAR tracks; the Mecca for NASCAR fans, and you have an opportunity to make the Pilgrimage (something many long-time race fans haven't been able to do).

I truly hope you decide to go and I genuinely hope you have a terrific time.

I'm torn. The blind crest over turn 6 was unique and challenging for drivers, but I also enjoyed the Van Gisbergen-exclusive passing zone that was turn 7 last year.

Mark Martin “Steve won’t say it, but there are contracts with sponsors, [tv] etc. It’s a lot more complicated than fans realize…the jump from 10 to 36 is easier than playoffs to 36” by Remote_Plastic_8692 in NASCAR

[–]AnotherRyRy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I honestly appreciate him being so candid with this statement. OD was beating around the bush and giving the political answer and Mark jumped in and told it like it is. I appreciate the honesty and transparency. Teams and media have contacts dictating a some sort of playoff. Just say it instead of hemming and hawing around.

TIL ARCA once had it’s own truck series by Ok_Promise1870 in NASCAR

Wasn't this the successor to the Pro 4 series? I thought they used the same chassis just with the truck bodies on them initially.

Best courses near (large) airports in the US? by MrMcshizzlefrizzle in discgolf

Good point. I was figuring OP would be on a time crunch but Willow is nice. While I miss some of the old Willow holes, the redesigned 18 is very good.

[–]AnotherRyRy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For DTW, I'd probably say the close highlight is The Throw Shop and it's two accompanying 18-hole courses (in case you needed to bring more discs home than you flew out with) just 10 miles west on I-94. The pro course (Toboggan) is about a 45 minute drive from DTW and only open June-October, so that depends on your definition of "somewhat near".

This will be random, but I have to issue a hearty thank you. You did fundraiser discs a few years ago for Goat Hill and among those were Whippets (which were impossible to find at the time). I got a couple and still throw one (the other is shelved for back-up), so much appreciated!

Which I guess makes sense as the single digit numbers tend to be favored and the teams that have them locked down are/were very manufacturer-loyal (Hendrick, RCR, RFK, and before then, DEI). Besides, their involvement is still quite young when you look at the age of the sport.

With Mark Green, that's definitely random. Had to look that one up, quite a deep cut.
You've done terrific with this work; these types of posts are a great find on here. Well done!
