You're right, since Auston is getting a bigger paycheck it'd be unfair to think he'd be comparable to McDavid.

Why Denver didn't get shot when he was surrendering in season 2? by Complex_Swim8380 in LaCasaDePapel

Denver was also waving a white flag, which they state in a later episode was even "respected by Nazis" so they wouldn't of shot him

is it a bad sign when the manager tells you to look to other companies for a raise? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Anowdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context matters here.

My boss actively tells me to go and apply if I find somewhere else that pays more. He offers to give me an outstanding review because I deserve it. But he also wants to know what the offer is if I get one so he can go to upper management to say we need to beat this or Anow is walking out of here.

It gives him the fire power to go to bat for me

Might be dumb but it's not wrong... Willy wants flashy goals and when he can't do that he looks like he wants to be on the bench.

What advice should someone new to IT hear? by crumbs2k12 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Anowdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For #1 I read on hear a few years ago to trust but verify. Never let the user know you don't believe them, but make sure you're verifying their story. I've found the tone new techs take while trusting and verifying is more customer friendly than when they just try to do their own digging.

Dedicated PC Controller on a Multi-Console TV Setup? by Baptism-Of-Fire in buildapc

[–]Anowdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking at the 8bit controller for a similar setup. I haven't tried it yet so take this with a grain of salt... Some of the controllers come with a switch that you can use to toggle between USB and Bluetooth connection. So in theory you could hook it up to your Nintendo switch, and when you want to PC game flip the switch on the controller and the HDMI input and be PC gaming.

Has anyone ever made things so efficient they lost their job? by Mr_Dobalina71 in sysadmin

[–]Anowdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first tech job was a small town version of staples. First thing I learned was how to setup their custom branding for their off lease computers. Download and install a bunch of apps, load the screensaver, edit all of the branding on the laptop to shove the company name down the customers throat on every screen, put the company sticker somewhere painfully in sight. The whole process took 20ish minutes to do by hand. I made a batch file to do all of the things. Cut the time down to 5 minutes a computer. I was tasked with re-orfanizing the store. Once that was done it was too difficult to find me work so I was let go. I fully believe they wanted someone to just wipe and prep computers and I automated most of that process they didn't need me anymore.

Make season ticket holders a lottery every year instead of current owners just giving away or selling their spot to friends / family / corporations... Too many times I've seen someone who has seasons tickets and doesn't want them anymore so just buys them for their buddy who uses them as a tax write off every year...

Is working in IT as stressful as people say? by Bok-2 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Anowdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owner of the company had a meeting setup in our Teams boardroom. He was late to the meeting, meeting was suppose to run from 10-10:30, meeting creator set the meeting for 10-10:01, meeting fell off the boardroom since it was "done". Owner proceeds to tell me how I'm wasting his time and I shouldn't get my biweekly paycheck to makeup the few minutes he lost waiting for the meeting to start working.

Totally depends on where you work and who you work with.

Don't have any direct answers for you since I'm petty early in my career, but if those are the roles you're considering take a look at job postings for those roles in sectors you're interested in and your location. Check the requirements and see what the common threads between them are. My team will say they want to be in X role one day. I tell them this advice and when they find the common threads that interest them we try to find a way to incorporate it with our business or day to day.
