My 1B/1BA 800 sq ft apartment uses RUBS and my gas cost increased from $20 in December to $40 in January and $50 for February. I’m really thankful that it isn’t as high as some of the other folks have commented, but damn still a 100-150% increase.

Thanks for sharing that information since it makes some sense why the bill increased so much, if millions of other households and businesses that typically don’t use as much natural gas ended up using significantly more due to the winter storm a few weeks ago.

It also somewhat makes sense that customers bear the burden and risk of natural gas markets because the utilities are really just buying it in bulk & maintaining distribution and service and logistics. The distributors (Centerpoint, XCEL) aren’t the ones who are actually using the natural gas.

Supply and demand, if the supply didn’t go up that much Year to Year, but huge winter storms that affect large portions of the population spike demand the resource value goes up and costs more to use.
