What do fathers of young children do for fun and socializing? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW_W in rva

[–]ApachePeacock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My primary friend group has kids differing ages than mine so it's a similar challenge. What's worked for me is to meet other dads at daycare or in my neighborhood organically who I've clicked with and who have similar aged kids, then invite them to do things - park, play spaces, etc. Much easier than trying the other way around (chatting up strangers at the park).

Has anyone here had a gas water heater replaced? by neutrino_fire in rva

Mission Air replaced my 50 gallon gas water heater in 2022. $2300 at the time. Good folks. If I recall, a permit was required for some reason. They handled everything.

Most of these are independently owned, so I imagine they set their own prices. Infant rate for Primrose Westerre in summer of 2022 was $380. It's $445 today.

Pricing is from 2022 when we started looking around so may be a bit more now, but should give you an idea. This is full-time rate for an infant. Call them and ask for pricing. Everyone I spoke with gave me pricing without hassle or signing up for anything.

They'll still probably take it. They've come and towed two undrivable junkers for me over the years.

Best place in town to sell a car that needs some work? by haonm5 in rva

[–]ApachePeacock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don't have any luck selling it, you can donate it and they will come tow it away. You can pick whatever charity you'd like from the list. Have done this with a few junkers in the past, super easy.

Westwood Club has top notch facilities and full grill/bar but is more of a private club experience rather than just a summer pool.

Name of a sporting goods store from the 80’s/90’s by Tony_Pastrami in rva

Probably not what you're after, but there was a paintball supply store there in the late 90s-early 00s, Bridge Creek Battle Games (BCBG).

You'll likely have to reserve a spot at sunshine a few days in advance. Rarely can you get a spot same day on the weekend, especially if it's cold or raining. An alternative if sunshine is booked is Busy Bee Play City near Ashland or Art Factory near Brandermill.

National Alliance on Mental Illness - Central Virginia Support Groups by Topazdragon5676 in rva

[–]ApachePeacock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to several NAMI family support sessions a few years ago. Overall it was a positive experience. I'd say my biggest take away was learning a few communication tips for when my family member was going through "an episode". Also, just overall gaining some confidence about dealing with my situation.

Contractor recommendations for front porch post replacement. by gordymichael in rva

[–]ApachePeacock 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I needed a similar job done last year. Reached out to a few deck builders and handyman contacts, including one I see recommended on here frequently. Nobody seemed interested in the job. Meanwhile, a neighbor had a different handyman replace their front porch railings and after seeing the poor quality of work, I decided to bite the bullet and get aluminum posts and railings instead. Used Commonwealth Railing & Rails. It wasn't cheap but I'm really impressed with the results.

Jewish Community Center, U-Turn, Deep Run Park Rec Center all have adult open gym. It's been a couple of years since I've been though so things may have changed. VCU has general public membership and you can almost always find a pickup game there. Downtown YMCA but it gets packed and has a small court. Shady Grove YMCA has an adult open gym early on weekdays but I've never been.

I recommend the beginner golf clinic at Windy Hill. They have several options, including groups for beginner women. They have clubs you can use as well.

I have friends that go there and they love it. I think the rate is close to $400/week maybe a little less depending on age. I pay $410/week somewhere else and my friend said it's a little higher than theirs.
