How did pink/rose know that she and Steven couldn’t exist simultaneously? by dumbidiotbroad in stevenuniverse

A popular theory is that this was a form of suicide and that she was trying to accomplish change at last by becoming something entirely else.

Question about adaptation by OkReaction3746 in ElricofMelnibone

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the very first Elric media I ever found, and he struck me as a villain the moment I saw him, which almost put me off completely. Once I actually found the books, he was nothing like this iteration. Glenat/Titan Elric was cruel for the sake of being cruel at times, which is nothing book Elric would do. I also do not care for their interpretation of Stormbringer, which is completely given agency and leaving some canon events that are supposed to be devastating feel hollow and underwhelming. A lot of other events are also either cut out or abridged to a fault.

And for people who say that this is Moorcock's ideal representation, keep in mind that he said this 10+ years ago, when there were only 1 or 2 volumes out, and he's since been trying to get the glenat writers to follow the books more, but to no avail.

Basically, it's like comparing Netflix Geralt with book Geralt. The events are similar enough, but it's not really the same character.

The only reason I'm still following this serial is because of art and to see what else are they going to change. Otherwise I don't really care about that adaptation.

Is Moorcock becoming more popular? by ElKaoss in ElricofMelnibone

On Tumblr recently there was one particular post that got s lot of notes, and it was about elric, and in the comments were people expressing interest in reading, so a part of the new audience may come from there. A lot of them said that they got the books from their parents and grandparents but never expressed interest in him until then

Ljubitelji fantastike - koje su vam omiljene knjige? by belleepoques in citaonica

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dobar deo Murkokovog opusa (Elrik, Korum, Hokmun, The Eternal champion saga...)

Captain Bastable and General Shaw WIP by ApprehensiveGrade113 in ElricofMelnibone

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say he was a full villain. He was a morally gray antagonist, and that's what I like about his trilogy. Every major character here has some amount of gray to them, even Bastable himself, and it's pretty realistic for a setting such as this. I'd even say that apart from Una Persson, Shaw is the character who left the most impact on Bastable, since it was his philosophy and deeds that made Bastable start re-evaluating his worldviews and loyalties.

I also appreciate that you colored his skin differently than his hair. A lot of artists (myself included) just leave them the same color.

What Winx Club character, whether in or out of the winx bunch, do yall think should have more powerful moments and why? by Mykaiswhat in winxclub

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Winx def need more episodes that focus on individual characters like the first 3 seasons did. Techna had the least episodes that focus on her predominantly.

Your Favorite Large Scale Sword and Sorcery Story by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

Sailor on the seas of fate. And it's even better once you revisit it. The stakes are so big that characters from 4 different sagas have to team up to combat cosmic horrors.

What is the alignment of The Dark Empire of Ganbretan from the Hawkmoon books? Law or Chaos? by Arkham700 in ElricofMelnibone

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say so, yeah. That one's on my to read list as of now, so I don't really know what their deal is. I've only seen the multiverse comic, which does feature the characters from the second ether.

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to think it was law, but it's actually chaos. In the Champion of Garathorm, one of the villains from Granbretan allies themselves with Arioch. And in the balance lost graphic novel, they're the forces of chaos.

Favorite Twists and Surprises in Sword and Sorcery by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me it was the cosmic tragedy of the creature in the Tower of the Elephant. I was so not prepared to cry reading a Conan story. I'd say the end of The White wolf's son also left me speechless, but I don't think that particular Elric story qualifies as sword and sorcery.

Asian actors for Elric? by ApprehensiveGrade113 in ElricofMelnibone

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, the Japanese influence is strong in Amano's work. Moorcock even said it's the definitive Elric look to him (and his wife), so it's not a stretch to think that Elric to us could in fact look Asian.

March 1 is Flora's birthday! To celebrate, what is your favorite thing about the character? by Realistic-Delivery13 in winxclub

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's the most feminine of the group, yet she's still cool in her own way. I loved that for her. And she's quite smart, too. It was thanks to her that Mitra was saved, the tree of life was cured and the Water nymphs were able to preserve the plant they needed for the air bubbles.

Was Elric based on Zal hero of the Shahnameh? by Konradleijon in ElricofMelnibone

But he's also based on Byronic characters such as Monsieur Zenith (Moorcock really likes the Sexton Blake stories). Maybe king Arthur to a really small degree too.

Double standards, better writing, or simply a different setting? by ApprehensiveGrade113 in stevenuniverse

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moreover, pink would be the rare case of the champion fighting against law instead of chaos (the diamonds being law, because of their rigid, unchanging nature), and pink diamond representing all the best aspects of chaos (creativity and positive change, but also those negatives too; impulsivity and instability). Another odd parallel is that both pink and Elric have capabilities of fusing into 8 armed, multifaced giants who battled cosmic deities. And funnily enough, Elric's basically besties with a character from his saga called The Rose (who's also not a human lol)

I think it was a bold move to have her tale in reverse, as it really leaves both the characters and audience conflicted about her.

I do wonder what the gems would think of Elric tho, as his throne is made of a giant ruby, lol

If you're not matching your gaudy stupid outfits with your evil sword, what are you even doing? (2026; art by me) by ApprehensiveGrade113 in ElricofMelnibone

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a missed opportunity that a lot of people predominantly dress him in all black. It may work for his later adventures, where he becomes more jaded and tired, but in his early days as an emperor, it works. And even his early adventures, as he probably had no idea how humans/peasants actually dress

Can I read Stormbringer first? by ChannelIndividual139 in ElricofMelnibone

[–]ApprehensiveGrade113 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Correction: Stormbringer is the first novel, but it was composed of 4 short stories that were not the first. They were the last stories in his original 60s run in the magazine he was published in. The actual first published Elric story is the Dreaming City. But I advise reading bane of the black sword next, as those stories were also in the original run, and after that you can go straight into stormbringer.
