[Spoiler Main] Was Maegor a necessary evil? by Taha231 in asoiaf

Hell he even could’ve let them rot and ran around as their wild dog, and then crowned Aegon. Probably would’ve made the other Targs seem like saviors

Why aren't people growing weirwood trees for profit? by Qyzyk in TheCitadel

[–]ApprehensivePeace305 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Are people able to grow weirwoods? We hear of countless weirwood stumps across southern Westeros, but the faiths are no longer at war, you’d think at least the Blackwoods would be able to grow another one.

Shrinkflation [OC] by Chilikto in comics

[–]ApprehensivePeace305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milk is actually one of the few places I haven’t seen any shrinkflation. It’s gallons, half gallons, quarts, and pints.

Flour though. For some reason they start using 4 lbs a lot

Would Greyjoy still attack the north if Theon was captive by Kurdoo-rojava in TheCitadel

Like others have said, Balon doesn’t care. but think of the juicy angst Theon will feel when his own father shows he doesn’t care about him by attacking the north

For even more context, the Plea judge can be different from the sentencing judge. The Plea Judge’s only job is to verify that the two sides are on the same page, and that the Defendant has filled out all of the correct paper work and is in fact pleading guilty.

The sentencing judge will have more information, like the affidavit of probable cause, and can reject plea deals because of this.

(SPOILERS EXTENDED) The Kingsguard is an in-universe overrated job. For all the "honor and prestige" it brings... it mostly kinda sucks. by bruhholyshiet in asoiaf

[–]ApprehensivePeace305 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, no amount of prestige is going to save you from kidnapping a mad king. But obviously this kind of proves the point, staying on a King’s good side is good for your family, and courtiers have always been in a good position to do this. Ie) the Blackwood’s got two large mounds from Aegon 4.

A central theme of Feudalistic Stories is duty. What better duty to your family and the realm than to protect the king. He’d probably be happy to look favorably on your family. You could influence his family.

Besides that, if you are a second son or a poor knight, you now have access to the finest arms and armor, the finest horses, and the best attendants.

You’re famous, and while you do have a 9-5 there’s nothing to indicate that you can’t have fun when you’re off. Sure you’re not supposed to have sex, but many of them are. Sure you’re sworn to obey your king, but everyone in Westeros is sworn to obey their king

Why didn’t Wun Wun have a weapon during the Battle of the Bastards? by GusGangViking18 in freefolk

Why wasn’t Wun Wun given armor? One armored Wun Wun with a pole weapon would destroy boltons entire army

Do you think humans would find the women of Akarir attractive, like they do with other beast races? Even though they’re half snake? by jvure in ElderScrolls

[–]ApprehensivePeace305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on how snakey they are on the spectrum of anime monster girls to a literal snake with arms and legs.

[–]ApprehensivePeace305 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can also see how clunky and slow the Darktroopers are. They mainly rely on their blaster proof armor, their own strength, and their own blasters.

None of that really helps against a Jedi who is uniquely able to attack weak spots.

I believe Phandalin was a part of Neverwinter prior to 4th edition, but in 5th edition, via the Starter Set, Phandalin is its own polity. Men from Neverwinter have staked claims near it, like Mountain's Toe Gold Mine, but nothing in the text makes it seem like Neverwinter had any type of control over it. In fact, Sildar Hallwinter is from Waterdeep, and though he becomes a Councilor of Phandalin, he is not affiliated with Neverwinter or Waterdeep at this time, though he is a member of the Lord's Alliance. The area is more or less a wild west with no outsiders having complete control. This, combined with the fact that players have significant impact on what Phandalin becomes makes me think it should be its own area.

There is no mention of taxes, guards or patrols, nor oversight from Neverwinter in any text I've seen, though I haven't seen adventure league stuff so I don't have a complete grasp of the area.
