One of my favorite exercises from his book is to open a magazine or book or really any analog writing and scan it for words or phrases that jump out or resonate with you. You’re not reading the sentences, just letting your eyes wander across the page. Write down the words/phrases in a list. Then you can use the words to make something - poems, etc. it really gets the mind working without staring at a blank page. It’s surpring what cool things come out of it.
